Reuters | Florence LoSingapore — Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba 's Taobao shopping app topped the Apple App Store charts in Singapore after releasing an English version on Tuesday — thanks to translations powered by artificial intelligence. That's according to Sensor Tower, a market intelligence firm whose data shows Taobao shot to first place in Apple's Singapore App Store across all categories, as of Sept. 11. As early as last year, Singaporean Taobao users had previously made guides on how to purchase clothes, furniture and lifestyle items from Taobao. These video guides were posted on the ByteDance-owned TikTok platform, another Chinese app.

An employee of Amazon India walks toward a security gate at the company's newly launched fulfillment center on the outskirts of Bangalore. An Indian antitrust investigation has found U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart violated local competition laws by giving preference to select sellers on their shopping websites, according to reports seen by Reuters. The Competition Commission of India in 2020 ordered an investigation into Amazon and Flipkart for allegedly promoting certain sellers with which they had business arrangements and giving priority to certain listings. Amazon and Flipkart, as well as the CCI, did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. The two companies will now review the report and file any objections before CCI staff decide on any potential fines.

It's also common to draw parallels between the dot-com bubble and today's hype, leading investors to wonder if there's an AI bubble that's about to pop, too. Goldman Sachs' big AI headline of the month is "To buy, or not to buy, that is the question." The note from September 5, led by Peter Oppenheimer, suggests the answer is "to buy" but also to diversify. And the third is the application providers, which are the companies creating services for end users to harness AI. It comes from machine learning or big data workloads that various companies and governments use, Belton noted.

The committee made the estimate after launching investigations into Shein and Temu more than a year ago. "If the de minimis exemption is removed, then the cost of products from marketplaces like Shein and Temu will rise. They will still be cheap marketplaces but they won't have quite the competitive edge on price that they do now," Saunders told CNBC in an email. On Friday morning, the Biden administration announced plans to bar overseas shipments of products that are subject to U.S.-China tariffs from being eligible for the de minimis exemption. Both Shein and Temu declined to tell CNBC if they will raise prices due the proposed changes.

The print is causing concern that inflation may not be going away, which would mean higher interest rates than markets expect going forward. Skyler Weinand, chief investment officer, Regan CapitalWeinand says the market's current outlook on rate cuts will only take place if the economy deteriorates significantly. If inflation does slow that much, the Fed would likely cut rates faster than just a quarter percent per meeting over the next 3-6 months," Adams said in an email. "However, the stickiness of service price inflation and shelter inflation suggests the Fed will cut rates slower than financial markets currently price in." This would be a disappointment to short-term bond markets that have priced over 250 bps of rate cuts by the end of 2025."

But thanks to the efforts of the research teams awarded the IG Nobel Prize on Thursday, some of these questions – which you might not even have thought existed – now have answers. Professor Sander Woutersen, right, displays an oversized stuffed worm while accepting a shared Ig Nobel Prize in chemistry for research using chromatography to separate drunk and sober worms. Steven Senne/APAmong those collecting their prizes was a Japanese research team led by Ryo Okabe and Takanori Takebe who discovered that mammals can breathe through their anuses. A Dutch-French research team also produced a live demonstration when they collected the chemistry prize to explain how they used chromotagraphy to separate drunk and sober worms. Former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are expected to hold separate fundraisers for Vice President Kamala Harris in Los Angeles next Friday, according to three people familiar with their plans. Both Obama and Clinton did fundraising events for President Joe Biden when he was the Democratic nominee earlier this year. But it will be Clinton’s first high-profile gathering with donors since the convention, and Obama's first campaign event for Harris, aside from his speech in Chicago last month. Obama and Clinton are both planning to campaign for Harris in the final stretch of the election, these people said, but dates are still being finalized for additional appearances. The Harris-Walz political operation brought in a whopping $361 million in the month of August, extending a major cash advantage over former President Donald Trump’s campaign.

The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with local media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Some allies said that Harris should use the momentum from the debate to change her cadence of interviews. “I don’t think you can hide for 56 more days from media interviews,” said one Democratic strategist, requesting anonymity to speak candidly. The Harris campaign also held a call that day, but it was off the record.

Dutch digital bank Bunq is plotting re-entry into the U.K. to tap into a "large and underserved" market of some 2.8 million British "digital nomads." "Bunq focusses on digital nomads who tend to roam the world," Ali Niknam, Bunq's CEO and co-founder, told CNBC via emailed comments. And in the U.K., Bunq is awaiting a decision from financial regulators on an application to become a licensed e-money institution, or EMI. Many of these positions will be part of a "tailored digital nomad" program that allows staff to work from anywhere in the world, Bunq said. To hear agents, lawyers, and producers tell it, the Hollywood they're going back to is more risk-averse than ever. Think of the "Suits LA" spinoff of the USA Networks show that was popularized by Netflix, and shows with big stars attached to them. Even big stars are getting slightedThere's an overall feeling that Hollywood has become too risk-averse. But in the meantime, the dearth of shows being ordered will take its toll on Hollywood.
