Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris face off in the ABC presidential debate on Sept. 10, 2024. The previous Trump administration didn't pursue those types of consumer protections. In contrast, Democrats, including Harris, have historically supported EVs and incentives such as those under the Biden administration's signature Inflation Reduction Act. Meanwhile, Harris, if elected, can build on existing efforts of the Biden administration to deliver savings to more patients, they said. Trump also led multiple efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, including its expansion of Medicaid to low-income adults.

Berkshire Hathaway's Bank of America stake has finally been cut to below the key 10% threshold, keeping Warren Buffett's next potential moves under wraps for a few months. The first 700 million shares had a low cost basis of only about $7 per share, while the average cost of the next 300 million shares was in the $30s, Goldberg estimated. "When we sell something, very often it's going to be our entire stake," Buffett said in 2020 when he entirely dumped his holdings in airlines. New York CNN —On the second Monday of October, Americans will be celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day, also known as Columbus Day. Indigenous Peoples’ Day recognizes the contributions and legacy of those who lived here long before Christopher Columbus erroneously claimed to have discovered America. President Joe Biden formally recognized Indigenous Peoples’ Day in 2021 by signing a proclamation stating that federal policies “systematically sought to assimilate and displace Native people and eradicate Native cultures.”Some states officially celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and others commemorate it through proclamations. More than 100 cities have replaced Columbus Day altogether with the holiday. Chase Bank and TD Bank will be open for Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

In this 2004 photo, then-District Attorney Kamala Harris waits for a proceeding to convene in San Francisco. The long-standing problem of racial inequities in the criminal justice system is among the issues that prompted Harris to become a prosecutor in the first place. “I grew up knowing about the disparities, inequities, and unfairness in the criminal justice system,” Harris said during a 2019 town hall hosted by MSNBC. And I am proud of the work that I did.”As a prosecutor, Harris adopted what she called a “smart on crime” approach to law enforcement. Her cautious stance on the issue frustrated many advocates of criminal justice reform, including those who expressed support for Harris on other issues.

Getting ready for the "two problematic stories," Wells Fargo and JPMorgan , which came later in the morning, took some real digging. ET – Wells Fargo shares turned and started inching up. With what you saw in Wells Fargo and JP Morgan on Friday. Think like this: When the psychology of the market changes, people don't want to bang out of Wells Fargo, they want to get in. But the measures that Beijing’s economic planning agency announced this week proved to be an anticlimax — the trillions of yuan that observers were hoping would be revealed never materialized. Beijing might even miss its annual growth target of 5% — a figure it often surpassed prior to the pandemic. But while Chinese officials project confidence, the markets and the country’s public seem less convinced. Its broader financial lethargy and this week’s market turmoil will hardly be welcomed by Beijing. Todd Graves' high-risk funding strategy for Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers was a bold gamble that almost cost him his dream. Today, the co-CEO and founder of Raising Cane's is worth an estimated $9.5 billion, according to Forbes, thanks to his over 90% ownership stake in the company. When he was growing the chain, Graves said he took out loans with private investors at a 15% interest rate. "I tell entrepreneurs, 'Don't do that,' because my dream almost just went away," Graves told the "Trading Secrets" podcast in May. BEIJING — China's Minister of Finance Lan Fo'an told reporters Saturday during a press briefing that the central government has room to increase debt and the deficit. Economists have said China needs additional fiscal support, but Beijing has yet to announce any. He did not name specific figures and noted supporting real estate required multiple policies. In a meeting in late September, led by Chinese President Xi Jinping, authorities had called for strengthening monetary and fiscal policy support. China's retail sales grew only modestly over the last few months, and the country's real estate slump has shown few signs of turning around.
