When Melinda Katz ran for Queens district attorney in 2019, her principal opponent in the Democratic primary was a public defender and democratic socialist with a platform of ending cash bail and eventually abolishing the police. With endorsements from progressive prosecutors around the country — as well as from Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — Tiffany Cabán, a first-time candidate, lost by fewer than 60 votes after painting Ms. Katz as a regressive Democrat. Four years later, the strongest challenge to Ms. Katz is coming from George Grasso, an opponent running to her right who has accused her of being soft on crime. It’s not the only contest in the city where moderate Democrats are facing opponents on the right in primaries on Tuesday. WASHINGTON, June 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives approved a Republican effort on Wednesday to censure Representative Adam Schiff, a rare move intended to punish the Democrat for his leading role in investigating the conduct of Donald Trump when he was president. In practice, the measure, which was passed 213-209 along party lines, will result in a probe into Schiff by the Ethics Committee. Trump was impeached a second time by the House over his actions leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol. The House had defeated a separate censure effort against Schiff last week, when 20 Republicans joined 205 Democrats in opposition. The earlier censure effort came with a $16 million fine, since stripped out.

The economist Selma Hepp says home prices in some areas are rising because of limited inventory. The US housing market started off on a solid footing this year as home prices rose. In April, prices for single-family homes rose by 2% year-over-year and 1.2% from the previous month, according to CoreLogic's Home Price Index. Many Democratic lawmakers are unhappy with the debt-ceiling bill that just passed the House. But some of them will vote for the bill anyway because they say a default would be far worse. "The macro alternative is absolutely indigestible," Rep. Jamie Raskin told Politico. On Wednesday night, the House easily passed Biden and McCarthy's Fiscal Responsibility Act with a bipartisan vote of 314-117.
