In May, Netflix disclosed that it has 40 million monthly active users on its new ad-supported subscription tier, a jump from 23 million in January. Netflix added 8 million subscribers in its last quarter, the streaming company said in its earnings report on Thursday, bringing its global subscription base to 278 million. The company said it was slightly raising expectations and now predicted revenue growth of 14 to 15 percent for the year. Netflix now offers subscriptions to an advertising-supported service for $6.99 a month in 12 countries. That tier now accounts for more than 45 percent of all sign-ups in those markets. The company has also been investing more heavily in live events, including a recent three-year deal with the N.F.L.

CNN —Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab will “gradually wind down” its US operations and lay off its US-based employees after the Department of Commerce announced a ban on the firm selling its products in the United States, Kaspersky said Monday. The Commerce Department last month announced the ban of the sale and provision of Kaspersky software in the United States, citing national security concerns. More than 400 million people and 240,000 companies worldwide use Kaspersky Lab’s software products, according to the company. CNN reported in April that the Commerce Department was taking action against Kaspersky Lab. Next week brings big earnings reports from heavyweight financials and a couple other Wall Street favorites, some of which have strong forward earnings momentum ripe for investment. For the quarterly period, the estimated year-over-year earnings growth rate for the broad market index is 8.8%, according to FactSet. If that comes out as the actual growth rate for the quarter, it will be the highest year-over-year earnings growth rate reported by the index since the first quarter of 2022, which saw a 9.4% growth rate, FactSet said. Companies with strong earnings momentum often show revenue growth, improving margins or cost reductions, making the stocks look more attractive.
