Rhodes’s Pulitzer-winning book has been having a renaissance among people grappling with the potential destructive force of other new technologies. Writing in The Atlantic, Charlie Warzel called it “a kind of holy text for a certain type of A.I. researcher — namely, the type who believes their creations might have the power to kill us all.”Long before “Oppenheimer,” a different portrayal of atomic science captured my imagination. (I think it works best as a live play, but if you’re looking for streaming options, the BBC did make a television version starring Daniel Craig in 2002 and a radio version starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Simon Russell Beale in 2013.) But inside, readers found that the entire thing was devoted to one single article: “Hiroshima,” by John Hersey.

He expected to get something close to the electric sport sedan’s advertised driving range: 353 miles on a fully charged battery. Driving range is among the most important factors in consumer decisions on which electric car to buy, or whether to buy one at all. Electric cars can lose driving range for a lot of the same reasons as gasoline cars — but to a greater degree. The EPA said all the changes to Tesla’s range estimates were made before the company used the figures on window stickers. Independent automotive testers commonly examine the EPA-approved fuel-efficiency or driving range claims against their own experience in structured tests or real-world driving.

Emily Wright, 38, a teacher in Toronto, started taking Ozempic in 2018. The diabetes drug Ozempic, and its sister drug for weight loss, Wegovy, utilize the same medication, semaglutide. Gastroparesis can have many causes, including diabetes, which is a reason many people are on these drugs in the first place. In more than half of cases of gastroparesis, doctors are unable to find a cause. Until more is known, George said, people need to be open with all their doctors about taking any drugs.

That’s a question that swirls through Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” a live-action, you-go-girl fantasia about the world’s most famous doll. The movie opens with a prelude that parodies the “dawn of man” sequence in “2001: A Space Odyssey” (with girls, not ape-men), and then shifts to Barbie Land, a kaleidoscopic wonderland. There, Gerwig sets the scene and tone with Barbie (Margot Robbie) — who calls herself stereotypical Barbie — soon floating out of her Dreamhouse, as if she were being lifted by a giant invisible hand. Written by Gerwig and her partner, Noah Baumbach, the movie introduces Barbie on yet another perfect day in Barbie Land, in which dolls played by humans exist in what resembles a toyland gated community. There, framed by a painted mountain range, Barbie and a diverse group of other Barbies rule, living in homes with few exterior walls.

Barbara Corcoran has an unpopular opinion that sets her apart from most millionaire entrepreneurs. "I don't agree that you should work your buns off to get rich," Corcoran, the founder of real estate firm The Corcoran Group and star of ABC's "Shark Tank," tells CNBC Make It. But she never put her work before other aspects of her life, like family, health or time off, she says. Self-made millionaire Grant Cardone has encouraged working 95 hours per week to attain a seven-figure net worth. WASHINGTON — Even my Republican sister is not immune to Joe Biden’s gregarious Irish charm. She met him at media holiday parties over the years and was so impressed that she got seduced to the other side for a time, voting for the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008 and writing in Biden’s name for president in 2012. She sent out a Christmas card one year with a picture of herself cheek to cheek with Biden — and some of her Republican friends stopped speaking to her. So I was surprised recently when I discovered my sister writing a letter to President Biden, a plea that she had started in the middle of the night, after mulling over the matter for quite a while. “I watched as you told the nation that you had six grandchildren and you loved each one of them,” she wrote.

Bryan Johnson spends up to $2 million a year on a rigorous program to reduce his biological age. The tech exec recently confirmed he eats his last meal of the day at 11 a.m.His typical "dinner" consists of meals like an orange and fennel salad or a stuffed sweet potato. In order to dramatically reduce his biological age, 45-year-old tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson abides by a rather unconventional eating schedule: He eats his last meal of the day at 11 a.m.Johnson has an $2 million-a-year anti-aging program known as Project Blueprint. Johnson wrote that this behavior had repercussions on his mood, sleep, and performance. Since then only "Morning Bryan" is authorized to make decisions on when, what, and how much to eat, Johnson wrote.

When people, or their army of bots, buy those lower-priced tickets in order to resell them, they’re abusing that restraint, and reducing the availability of seats at more reasonable prices. But your sister didn’t buy these tickets to resell them. Looming in the future were the tickets I’d purchased to the Taylor Swift Eras tour, intended for my family members and the student. I refused, because if I did so, the student would still be sitting next to us at the concert. (The original ticket was $350 but was now worth over $3,000 on the resale market, as it was much closer to the stage.)

Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, announced their separation on Wednesday. McCray publicly identified as a lesbian when she began dating de Blasio in the 1990s. De Blasio recalled wondering if there was "a time bomb ticking" in their marriage because of it. McCray wrote that article for ESSENCE Magazine in 1979, over a decade before she met de Blasio when they both worked for former Mayor David Dinkins. "I discovered my preference for women early, before getting locked into a traditional marriage and having children," McCray wrote at the time.

You don't get the best first-half Nasdaq rally in 40 years simply because the Federal Reserve did this, or the yield curve in the bond market did that. It was almost as if it was prosaic to seek profits, like, "How dare you defy the teachings of the yield curve, you foolish soon-to-be- broke apostate." It was the second move, the second week of March, that told the second tale of the first half: the fall of Silicon Valley Bank. Here we had an out-of-nowhere collapse of a well-known seemingly well-run bank that ran afoul, again, of the yield curve. No company could rival Club stocks Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft and Meta Platforms (META) — nice metamorphous there and Tesla , not a Club name.

The space sector has seen a variety of mergers and acquisitions since the start of the year, but the deal-making is only heating up. Meanwhile, one financier told me even Boeing is exploring options for its space business, and "everything's on the table." The markets and underlying technologies of space companies are often very different, and the reasons why one company sells or fails are often just as different from that of another.
