Meghan Markle’s Neutral Cashmere Is ‘Power Casual’

When Meghan Markle first rose to minor celebrity on the show “Suits,” she was wearing the buttoned-up wardrobe of a young lawyer: pencil skirts, strict button-ups and yes, suits. When she then reached unimaginable heights of global fame as Prince Harry ‘s girlfriend and then wife, she dressed impeccably for the endless public appearances in coat dresses, high-heeled pumps and even fascinators. With her upright daughter-of-a-yoga-teacher posture and seemingly endless supply of camel wrap coats, she has, until recently, dressed for a relentlessly public life. But in the six-part series “Harry & Meghan,” currently the number-two show on Netflix in the U.S., the duchess of Sussex presents a cozier, quieter, more intimate style. Ms. Markle’s message appears to be: I am grounded, sincere, and down-to-earth, but refined.
I had no intention of watching the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” the first three episodes of which dropped Dec. 8. I want to admire Harry and Meghan. The fact is, I’ve always liked Meghan and Harry. I’m not sure if the point of “Harry & Meghan” was to make people feel sorry for them, but that’s certainly one of the messages I got, and I found it cringeworthy. I want to admire Harry and Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had sway over the show’s story lines, including one that highlighted the royal family’s ties to slavery. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘s new show, a broadside at the British royal family, broke a Netflix record, according to the streaming giant. Netflix Inc. said Tuesday that the show, “Harry & Meghan,” was watched more than any other documentary on the platform in its premiere week.
"It's like living through a soap opera where everybody else views you as entertainment," Harry said in one of the final episodes released on Thursday. "It looked cold, but it also felt cold," Harry said of his family's feelings towards him at their last official engagement. "The departure of Meghan and Harry from royal ranks has been far more damaging to the monarchy than the coverage that vilifies them understands or accepts," she told Reuters. But it bounced back to become more popular than ever, with Harry and his brother William to the fore. "Personally, I don't think that it will do lasting damage to the monarchy," royal biographer Claudia Joseph said of the Netflix (NFLX.O) documentary.

"You have to understand that from the family's perspective, and especially from hers, there are ways of doing things," Harry says, referring to the Queen.
