Sanofi Lantus brand insulin pens are arranged for a photograph in the Brooklyn borough of New York, U.S., on Friday, April 5, 2019. Americans, regardless of their insurance status, can now access Sanofi 's most widely prescribed insulin for $35 through the prescription drug savings company GoodRx , the companies announced Thursday. But some patients have struggled to access the $35 price point, even with that program in place. President Joe Biden's Inflation Reduction Act also capped monthly insulin costs for Medicare beneficiaries at $35, but it did not provide protection to diabetes patients who have private insurance. Approximately 8.4 million diabetes patients rely on insulin, the American Diabetes Association said.

Rite Aid filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sunday following slumping sales and a series of lawsuits. Rite Aid, which has over 47,000 employees, has struggled in recent years to compete against larger peers like CVS and Walgreens Boots Alliance, as well as Amazon. Rite Aid has faced growing competition from direct-to-consumer pharmacy startups as well as medication deliveries from the likes of Amazon and Uber. Rite Aid also experienced supply chain challenges after changing supplier for many of its perishable consumer goods and shrink "continued to be a significant headwind," Burr said. Representatives for Rite Aid did not immediately respond for Insider's request for further comment beyond sending statements about Stein's appointment and its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Companies Grail Inc FollowIllumina Inc FollowBRUSSELS, Oct 12 (Reuters) - U.S. genetic testing company Illumina (ILMN.O) has been ordered by EU antitrust regulators to sell cancer test maker Grail (GRAL.O) after it completed the deal before securing their approval. The gun-jumping cost Illumina a record EU antitrust fine of 432 million euros ($457 million) for such an offence. The EU watchdog ordered Illumina to restore Grail's independence to the same level as prior to its acquisition and to ensure that it is as viable and competitive as before the takeover. Illumina can choose to divest Grail via a trade sale, a capital markets transaction or other methods, but must do it within strict deadlines. The company must keep Grail separate and viable until the sale is completed.

Operating profit for the fiscal year through August is expected to rise 26% to 374.6 billion yen ($2.52 billion), according to the average estimate of 12 analysts collected by LSEG. The company has forecast 370 billion yen, which would far exceed last year's 297.3 billion yen. Consensus estimates could be underplaying the company's results given the recovery in China, the weak yen, and strong performance in the United States and Europe, said LightStream Research analyst Oshadhi Kumarasiri. "I'm expecting a positive earnings surprise and a strong set of guidance for next year," added Kumarasiri, who publishes on the Smartkarma platform. That was until this week, when the company decided to pull its listing in the final hours of Wednesday, blaming market conditions. In the coming weeks, a string of European companies are slated to come to market. Among them is CVC Capital Partners, which is still planning a November listing depending on market conditions, a person with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. However, the fate of Renk highlights the challenges facing new issuers, exacerbated by a recent bout of volatility in equity and debt markets. On Thursday it was trading around its opening IPO price at 30 euros, still above its issue price, a positive sign.

REUTERS/Mohammad Ponir Hossain/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsCompanies Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd FollowLONDON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Dengue fever will become a major threat in the southern United States, southern Europe and new parts of Africa this decade, the WHO's chief scientist said, as warmer temperatures create the conditions for the mosquitoes carrying the infection to spread. Many cases go unrecorded, but in 2022 4.2 million cases were reported worldwide and public health officials have warned that near-record levels of transmission are expected this year. Qdenga is also approved by the EU regulator, but Takeda withdrew its application in the United States earlier this year, citing data collection issues. Dengue is spread by infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which behave differently to the malaria-carrying kind.

Johnson & Johnson is a buy after the company's consumer business spinoff earlier this year, according to RBC Capital Markets. The firm initiated Johnson & Johnson with an outperform rating and $178 price target, which suggests shares can climb about 14.5% from Wednesday's close. This separation has "unlocked potential" for Johnson & Johnson going forward, analyst Shagun Singh said. Singh also said the company's pharma franchise is poised to deliver competitive growth and that its medtech division is on pace to achieve "top-tier growth and profitability." The analyst added that Johnson & Johnson is trading below its historical multiples despite its improved financial profile since its Kenvue spinoff and that the company has potential upside from further M & A activity.

LONDON, Oct 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Sandoz’s (SDZ.S) investors are giving CEO Richard Saynor the benefit of the doubt. Shares in the generics drug maker, which $217 billion pharma giant Novartis (NOVN.S) has finally managed to spin off, started to trade in Zurich on Wednesday. There was a risk that Novartis investors, who have long called for a sale or spinoff, would quickly dump the new Sandoz shares. At current market prices, Sandoz is worth nearly $11 billion, or $14.4 billion once net debt is added in. For now, Novartis investors seem to believe Sandoz’s treatment may be effective.
