CNN —Lord Howe Island has the look of a destination ripe for overtourism, with verdant mountaintops, pristine white-sand beaches and clear-blue waters teeming with colorful fish. Atop the summit of Mount Gower – one of the most popular hiking trails on Lord Howe – sits a rare, endangered cloud forest. Beaches are just a few minutes’ walk or bike ride away from the guesthouses, making Lord Howe “the easiest holiday,” said Anthony Riddle, a sixth-generation islander who co-founded Lord Howe Island Brewing Company and Lord Howe Island Distilling Company. “We tell the story about what is it that’s special about Lord Howe Island. Not really," Chaudhry, the billionaire founder and CEO of cloud security company Zscaler, tells CNBC Make It. Together, they plunged their life savings — roughly $500,000 — into SecureIT, a cybersecurity software startup they co-founded in 1997. His timing was perfect: In 1998, Chaudhry sold SecureIT to VeriSign in an all-stock deal worth nearly $70 million. I said, "If [Netscape co-founder] Marc Andreessen could start a company — he was a young guy [right] out of college — why shouldn't I start a company?" CNN —Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick Ohio Sen. JD Vance was once a fervent critic of the former president. “I did say those critical things and I regret them, and I regret being wrong about the guy,” Vance told Fox News in 2021. Sadly, that victim identity was only reinforced in the mid-2010s, when Duvall appeared on an episode of “Dr. Phil” episode with a ratings-bait title, the then 67-year-old actress made confusing claims and was apparently struggling with her mental health. Opinion | This Is How You Know Trump Smells Victory

I’m used to Donald Trump being painfully loud, proudly obnoxious and, well, sort of bonkers. I’m used to alligators-on-the-border Trump, sharks-in-the-water Trump, Hannibal Lecter Trump. And this loosely hinged version of Trump scares me much, much more than the utterly unhinged one. He smells victory in November in a way he’s never really smelled it before, and his nose isn’t off. What they did with the platform, just before next week’s Republican National Convention, was soften its anti-abortion stance and tone down the homophobia.

The campaign of President Joe Biden asked for and received two edits to an interview he gave a Milwaukee radio station on the heels of his disastrous debate in late June against former President Donald Trump, the station said Thursday. The disclosure by Civic Media of the edits comes days after its host for the Biden interview, and another Black radio host in Philadelphia, revealed that the Biden campaign fed them questions in advance to ask the president. Civic Media said that right after Ingram taped the interview with Biden on July 3, the campaign called and requested the edits. "With a high-profile interview comes a listener expectation that journalistic interview standards will be applied, even for non-news programming," Civic Media said. Civic Media's disclosure comes five days after Ingram said Biden aides "gave me the exact questions to ask" Biden in the interview.

“It’s not like Biden’s inner circle didn’t know this,” one Democratic strategist close to the White House said of the extent of the president’s recent decline. “Expect a drip, drip, drip,” said one former Biden White House official. “Blinders are off and everyone is aware,” one source close to the White House told CNN. “He’s declined,” one House Democratic lawmaker who attended the gala told CNN. President Biden entered Thursday night hoping that a steady performance at a news conference with the national press corps would quell dissension among Democrats, some of whom want him out of the race. But within minutes of his departure from the stage, two more Democratic representatives joined the growing number of party members calling for him to end his re-election campaign against former President Donald J. Trump. “The 2024 election will define the future of American democracy, and we must put forth the strongest candidate possible to confront the threat posed by Trump’s promised MAGA authoritarianism,” Representative Jim Himes, a moderate Democrat from Connecticut and the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement. “I no longer believe that is Joe Biden.”And Representative Scott Peters of California also argued that Mr. Biden should leave the race, saying, “The stakes are high, and we are on a losing course.”

Did President Biden really think that Donald J. Trump was his vice president instead of Kamala Harris? Did he actually believe that he was meeting with Vladimir V. Putin instead of Volodymyr Zelensky? But when it comes to his political future, did it matter that he mixed up those names in front of television cameras on Thursday? For nearly an hour, at the most anticipated news conference of his presidency, Mr. Biden held forth on the nation, the world and his political future. He demonstrated a grasp of the issues and seemed most comfortable during a long discourse on foreign policy.

The charts indicate the ETF could be nearing a substantial breakout attempt. The ETF is comprised of five industries: financial services (33%), banks (26%) capital markets (21%), insurance (16%) and consumer finance (4%). Daily Bullish Pattern First, here's the daily chart. The SPX finally eclipsed its 2007 high in 2013; the XLF reclaimed its 2007 high in 2021, but that didn't hold. Putting it all together, a successful daily pattern breakout also would help the much bigger weekly pattern break out, which would finally create distance from the 2007 high and prompt a multi-decade breakout.

There are also concerns about 78-year-old Republican nominee Donald Trump's fitness for office — registered voters are split on whether he still has the cognitive skills for this job. "I have a cognitive test every single day," he added, alluding to the requirements of his job. Trump continues to boast that he "aced" the basic cognitive tests he took over four years ago, when he was president. These cognitive tests only rule out disease. Doctors themselves have resisted mandatory cognitive tests for older physicians — in part because it's ageist, but also because memory tests don't tell you whether someone is good at their job.

CNN —Dutch golfer Joost Luiten will not be competing in this month’s Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee ruled it would not expand the field to include him, despite qualifying and winning a court case that seemed set to send him to Paris. Luiten announced last month that the Dutch Olympic Committee would not allow him to take a place on the country’s team that is competing in the golf competition, despite the fact that he met the International Golf Federation’s criteria for entry. The matter before the school board was straightforward. The new bus would be larger than the old one, board members learned at the meeting 18 months ago, and also totally free, thanks to a federal grant. But the biggest difference: The new bus would be powered not by a diesel engine but by electricity.
