LONDON, July 15 (Reuters) - Carlos Alcaraz will have to kick Novak Djokovic off his Wimbledon throne in Sunday's final because he will not be given an inch, according to seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander. Alcaraz is already world number one and claimed last year's U.S. Open by beating Casper Ruud, but the challenge of Djokovic is "another universe", according to Wilander. "It's really important that Carlos Alcaraz beats Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam final before (Djokovic's career) is over. "Of course Djokovic can lose but I don't think he cares less about that any more," Wilander said. "He's going to come in and play at about 90% the whole time, dipping to maybe 85% and sometimes up to 95%.

Instead, a distraught Jabeur was left with tears streaming down her face as her Wimbledon dream was wrecked in the final for the second year running with a 6-4 6-4 drubbing. I am going to have a beer as it's been an exhausting two weeks," said Vondrousova. I am going to look ugly for those photos," the 28-year-old Jabeur told the crowd through tears. It's been a tough journey but I promise I will come back and one day win this tournament." Jabeur knows she could have won the first set 6-0, having had game points in each of the opening six games.

After all the hard work she put in to beat six rivals, including four Grand Slam champions, Jabeur had stood on the cusp of becoming the first Arab and first African woman to win a Grand Slam title. Luckily four-time major winner Kim Clijsters, who had lost her first four Grand Slam finals, was waiting in the wings to hug the distraught 28-year-old and offer her hope that her time will come. "We were crying together at the locker room," Jabeur told reporters. "Definitely this match, last year's match, the final of the U.S. Open, will teach me how to win these finals. Hopefully I will be like the others that failed a couple of times to do it and it (the win) will come after.

"It will be tough to speak because this is very tough," the sixth seed, her eyes wet with tears, said on court after losing in the Wimbledon final for the second year in a row. Jabeur was also the favourite last year but lost the final to big-hitting Elena Rybakina. But despite winning the first two games, she produced a nervous, mistake-strewn display that was painful to watch at times as her dream faded. "It's going to be a tough day for me today. I promise I will come back one day and win this tournament," she told the crowd.

Read moreLONDON, July 15 (Reuters) - Centre Court fans celebrated a home champion as Neal Skupski and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof won the Wimbledon men's doubles title with a 6-4 6-4 win against Spain-Argentina duo Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos on Saturday. A clash lasting little more than an hour ended with Koolhof holding serve to love. The 33-year-old Skupski, who collapsed to the ground after match point, is the first British man to win the men's doubles at Wimbledon since Jonathan Marray played alongside Frederick Nielson in 2012. Skupski adds the men's doubles crown to the mixed doubles titles he won in 2021 and 2022. It was the second time that Granollers and Zeballos had fallen at the final hurdle at Wimbledon, having been beaten in 2021 by Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.

For more than two months, viewers have been without new episodes of late-night shows like “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” because of the writers strike. With the actors now voting to strike too, viewers are likely to notice the effects of the dual walkouts more broadly within the next couple of months. Unless there is an immediate resolution to the labor disputes, the fall television lineup is almost certain to be affected. Instead of new episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” or “Abbott Elementary,” the ABC fall lineup in September will be populated by a combination of reality series, game shows and reruns. That means lots of episodes of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” “Dancing With the Stars” and “Judge Steve Harvey.”Likewise, the Fox broadcast network announced its fall lineup on Wednesday, and it is packed with unscripted series like “Celebrity Name That Tune,” “The Masked Singer,” “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Snake Oil,” a new game show hosted by David Spade.

CNN —Your Chipotle guacamole may soon be prepared by a robot. Meet “Autocado,” a Chipotle robot designed to perform the more tedious tasks of creating the chain’s guacamole, including cutting, coring and peeling avocados. But Chipotle (CMG) said this “collaborative robot” will not eliminate jobs, but, instead, employees will work with the robot to speed up guacamole production. For its design, Chipotle partnered with Vebu Labs, a robotics startup in California, to analyze the preparation process at various Chipotle restaurants and identify the most time-consuming tasks for employees. And Chipotle is already testing “Chippy,” a robotic kitchen assistant that uses artificial intelligence to make tortilla chips to dip in Autocado’s guacamole.

Question the conservative court’s very legitimacy. “He is an institutionalist at heart,” said Brian Fallon, a Democratic activist who has been waging a yearslong campaign to overhaul the Supreme Court. “Politicians of his vintage I think continue to have reverence for the court as an institution even though this current court, in its current composition, doesn’t deserve that reverence. He has called the Supreme Court’s recent decisions “extreme” and “outrageous,” but in an interview on MSNBC, the president would not call the court “anti-democratic.”“Its value system is different,” Mr. Biden said, focusing on the court’s rejection of abortion rights. “And its respect for institutions is different.”Examinations of the past two years of Supreme Court decisions have revealed what longtime observers say is a clear shift to the right, making it by one measurement the most conservative court in nearly a decade.

LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) - Unseeded Russian Roman Safiullin reached his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final when he secured a shock 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-3 win over Denis Shapovalov at Wimbledon on Sunday. After the match was all square, Shapovalov committed two more double faults in a dismal start to the third set as Safiullin broke and then held to love for a 2-0 lead. Minutes later, Safiullin had a 4-1 double-break after yet another double fault from Shapovalov, the seventh of 11. He was quickly put out of his misery by the Russian, who broke and then closed out the victory on serve. Safiullin becomes just the 12th man to reach the quarter-finals on his Wimbledon main-draw debut, adding to the likes of Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and Nick Kyrgios.

LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) - Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother Petros finally got a chance to finish off their first-round Wimbledon doubles match that started on Friday but, unfortunately for the Greek duo, their day out on Sunday proved to be short and not very sweet. Stranded at one set apiece when they were called off court on day five of the championships, the Greek duo emerged second best after they were beaten 6-7(3) 6-4 6-2 by French teenagers Arthur Fils and Luca Van Assche. It is unlikely Apostolos would have approved of what he saw next as the young French duo then streaked through to win the next six games, ending the Tsitsipas challenge with a volley winner. While 19-year-olds Fils and Van Assche celebrated with a leaping chest bump, the Tsitsipas brothers had to make do with the look of irritation they were given by dad Apostolos. Dimitrov dispatches Tiafoe with ease to advance at Wimbledon

So I was just looking after my game," Dimitrov said. The first things Tiafoe highlighted when asked to give his thoughts on Dimitrov prior to the match were the Bulgarian's first serve, his net game and his slice. When they resumed on Sunday, Dimitrov consolidated an early break and a restless Tiafoe lost his cool in no time. When asked about his next match-up against an even younger Rune, who is 12 years his junior, Dimitrov simply shrugged his shoulders. I'm really focusing on my side of the net and looking after my game," he said with a laugh.

LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of champagne bottles are opened during the Wimbledon Championships every year but on Sunday one chair umpire politely asked patrons to keep them corked, at least until the players on court had served. "Ladies and gentlemen, please, if you are opening a bottle of champagne, don't do it as the players are about to serve," Australian umpire John Blom said on the microphone for all to hear. Potapova, who was about to serve, stopped to listen to the announcement before nodding her head in approval with a smile, amid scattered applause. loadingIn 2019, a similar announcement was made by an umpire when a champagne cork flew on to the court during a match between Benoit Paire and Jiri Vesely. The All England Club's conditions of entry to the grounds state: "All corked bottles, including bottles of champagne and sparkling wine, must be opened prior to being taken into the stands of any court."

LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) - Jessica Pegula enjoyed one of those scarcely believable days straight out of fantasy land as her racket oozed winners left, right and centre in a 6-1 6-3 fourth-round destruction of luckless Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko at Wimbledon on Sunday. Pegula took full advantage of her opponent's woes as she walloped thunderous winners from the baseline to streak into a 5-0 lead in 18 blinding minutes. Tsurenko was lucky not to be completely wiped out from the opening set as the American fourth seed missed a set point in the sixth game. Dynamo accused the Turkish club of accepting "bloody handouts from the sponsors of terrorism," and added: "Nothing can justify this step. Berrettini, beaten by Novak Djokovic in the 2021 final, had played only 14 matches this year leading into Wimbledon with an abdominal injury ruling him out of the Queen's Club warm-up. But he looked razor-sharp in a superb performance against 2020 U.S. Open runner-up Zverev who is on the way back after suffering a serious ankle injury last year. Amazingly, Berrettini has now played on every day of the tournament, with his previous matches being interrupted by the rain that continued to trouble the tournament on Saturday. Rybakina ensured a demoralising 48 hours for Britain as she demolished Katie Boulter 6-1 6-1 to end home hopes in the singles. [1/3] Tennis - Wimbledon - All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London, Britain - July 8, 2023 Tunisia's Ons Jabeur celebrates after winning her third round match against Canada's Bianca Andreescu REUTERS/Toby MelvilleLONDON, July 8 (Reuters) - Last year's runner-up Ons Jabeur came from a set down to keep alive her Wimbledon dream with a 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory over former Grand Slam champion Bianca Andreescu on Saturday. The Tunisian, the first Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam final, was outplayed in the opening set on Centre Court. But the sixth seed regained some control with a serve break midway through the second set which enabled her to level. On the resumption, Jabeur had to work hard to hold serve, saving a break point, and she then picked the perfect moment to strike when she broke to love at 4-4. She still had to serve it out, but did so calmly to move into a fourth-round clash against two-time champion Petra Kvitova.

Armed with a menacing serve and steely resolve, Wimbledon champion Rybakina never allowed the partisan crowd to find their full vocal range as she ruthlessly and unceremoniously cut Boulter down with a 6-1 6-1 third-round demolition job. "Today I was playing really well... and overall I am happy I was focused from the beginning until the end." They only problem was that Rybakina had failed to read the British script. Such was the Kazakh third seed's dominance that the stunned crowd appeared to have lost their collective voice while Boulter simply lost her way. Mercifully for the 89th-ranked Boulter, her ordeal lasted only 57 brutal minutes as Rybakina broke for the fourth time to end the British challenge at this year's championships with a forehand winner.
