Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran apologized Sunday night after he uttered a homophobic slur at a heckler while at-bat against the Houston Astros at Fenway Park. Duran turned in the direction of the fan and uttered the slur before taking a hitting stance for the next pitch, the video shows. "I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community. The Red Sox said in a statement that the organization echoed Duran's apology, "especially to the LGBTQ community." Similar incidents in the past have been met by league-required sensitivity and diversity education, as well as game suspensions.

What happiness means is different for each individual and may shift over a lifetime: joy, love, purpose, money, health, freedom, gratitude, friendship, romance, fulfilling work? Many have even suggested that while we may think we know what will make us happy, we are often wrong. One man may have cracked the code for what makes a happy and healthier life — and he has the data to back him up. And that’s particularly important now where we’re so divided from each other.”We hope these five tips help put you on a path to what you consider to be a good, happy life. And remember: No life is happy all the time.

New York CNN —The New York Times is getting out of New York endorsements. The newspaper’s editorial board on Monday announced that it will no longer endorse political candidates in New York state and local races. “While elections everywhere remain critical to the lives and experiences of our audience, the editorial board is ceasing the endorsement process for New York elections,” Kathleen Kingsbury, The Times’ Opinion head who oversees the editorial board, said in a statement. Notably, however, the board can continue making endorsements in presidential races, including in the upcoming November election, and it can still endorse political candidates in races outside of the state. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, known for its conservative bend, has not endorsed candidates since 1928.

How to increase your attention span amid digital overload

While a dwindling attention span is not due to a personal failing (despite individual variability) a majority of the time, experts say there are changes you can make to regain control over your mind. “Tech companies and ad marketing companies use this information to construct profiles about us, and then they design algorithms that are targeted to capture our attention,” Mark said. “We have a tank of attentional resources (that) gets drained when we keep switching our attention,” Mark said. Additionally, he suggested using an app that places time limits on social media or websites you find yourself addicted to using. “The way I feel at the moment is like somebody is pouring itching powder over us all day,” Hari said.

’Tis the season for vacations, so let me make my pitch that the best travel is not lounging at a beach resort but rather journeying into a different world. So I preach both travel and prudence, and on a recent book tour, I found myself often asked about travel advice I had mentioned in my memoir. The most memorable travel often involves encountering something unfamiliar, so consider escaping the herds parading through Paris. A teenager from an affluent family in the New York or Boston areas would step into a different world by taking a ranch job in Wyoming. And this is the kind of travel that is not only affordable but actually pays for the experience.

In the thick of the pandemic I moved back to El Paso, Texas, on the U.S.-Mexico border, where I’d been raised, for what I thought would be a temporary stay. I found myself being more discreet around my family in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, where I was born. My favorite songs to sing were those by the iconic Mexican showman Juan Gabriel. Juan Gabriel’s tender femininity was a radical quality in a Mexico entrenched in machismo and homophobia. He managed to embody his Mexican roots while also exuding queerness — two ideas that were for so long at odds in our culture.

The decorated Kenyan runner hopes to change that in Paris over the coming days, entering the women’s marathon race as one of the favorites for the title. This will be Obiri’s fourth Games, making her a veteran in the women’s marathon field. Homeowners and renters insurance policies do not cover flood damage, however. Most people who have flood insurance get it through the federal government, via FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program, experts said. On average, about 30% of U.S. homes in the highest-risk areas for flooding have flood insurance, according to the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Risk Center. Private insurers also offer flood policies and may offer higher coverage than FEMA's policies, according to the Insurance Information Institute. What basement items are covered by flood insurance?
