Israel and Hezbollah have been stuck in the tit-for-tat horror of escalation chicken for nearly a year. But the greater the harm inflicted on Hezbollah recently, the more likely a shorter-term Israeli success has seemed. A full-scale ground war between a tired, divided Israeli military and an experienced, angry Hezbollah inside southern Lebanon would likely be disastrous for Israel. The past week has shown the technological chasm between the two adversaries. Hassan Ammar/APMilitarily, the past week has been a disaster for Hezbollah.

In a separate statement, the IDF said roughly 150 rockets, cruise missiles, and drones were launched at Israel. “This is a blatant attack on the Al Jazeera channel and Al Jazeera Network and those who are working with them, as well as on the freedom of speech and the task of delivering the truth,” al-Omari told Reuters. CNN —Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a plan to force all Palestinian civilians out of northern Gaza, including Gaza City, in order to lay siege to Hamas and force the release of hostages. The plan does not mention whether, when, or how civilians would be allowed to return to northern Gaza. The idea comes from a group of retired Israeli military generals, who have formally presented it to the Israeli cabinet and a powerful parliamentary committee. “The right thing to do is to inform the approximately 300,000 residents who remained in the northern Gaza Strip, citizen residents, of the following: Not that we are suggesting you leave the northern Gaza Strip, we are ordering you to leave the northern Gaza Strip.”“In a week, the entire territory of the northern Gaza Strip will become military territory. The plan does not tackle the question of whether Palestinians could ever return to northern Gaza, one of its backers told CNN.

Video broadcast by Al Jazeera showed one soldier informing Omary of a military order to close Al Jazeera’s office for 45 days. Shortly after, as Israeli soldiers approached Omary, the live video feed was cut, and Omary could be heard saying that soldiers had taken the camera and broadcast equipment the team had been using. Al Jazeera denounced the move as it continued broadcasting live from Amman in neighboring Jordan. The network later aired what appeared to be Israel troops tearing down a banner on a balcony used by the Al Jazeera office. He bemoaned that, despite those milestones, which he framed as being on behalf of the Jewish people, he had not seen an increase in support from Jewish voters. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for further comment on the former president's remarks. At a separate event in the capital on Thursday evening, he shared a similar warning with Jewish voters about the stakes of their support in the election. As Trump continues to court Jewish voters ahead of the November general election, he has continued to publicly assail high-profile Jewish leaders like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Pennsylvania Gov. CNN —Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that “the Jewish people” would be partially to blame if he loses in November, escalating his persistent campaign trail criticism of Jewish voters and insisting that Democrats hold a “curse” over them. But the former president appeared preoccupied with what he described as ingratitude from Jewish voters, whom he said should be supporting him in greater proportions because of his record on Israel. Still, Trump has repeatedly cast his rival as “anti-Israel” and “anti-Jewish.”“You have to defeat Kamala Harris more than any other people on earth,” Trump said, addressing the Jewish voters in the audience. CNN —A senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has presented to the Biden administration a new proposed ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas, an Israeli official told CNN. Reactions to the proposal have widely been that it will be a non-starter for Hamas, which has not commented on it. It is unclear whether the proposal addresses the presence of Israeli troops in Gaza after a ceasefire and hostage deal – a key sticking point in stalled negotiations. The Hostages Families Forum, which has been scathing about Netanyahu’s approach to hostage negotiations, welcomed the proposal. They cited Israel’s assassinations of Hamas leaders in foreign capitals, and said they believed Sinwar would prefer to die fighting Israel than to leave Gaza.

CNN —Lebanon is reeling after facing deadly back-to-back attacks targeting Hezbollah members – with pagers simultaneously exploding across the country on Tuesday, then walkie-talkies detonating in a similar fashion on Wednesday. At least 22 people, including children, have died so far from the two attacks, which Lebanese officials have blamed on Israel. Firefighters put out flames and a crowd gathers after a reported explosion in Saida, Lebanon, on September 18, 2024. How have Hezbollah, Israel and the world responded? Hezbollah called the act an "Israeli aggression"; Israel, meanwhile, has not commented on the blasts. Tens of thousands of people in both Lebanon and Israel have been evacuated from their homes. On Monday, Putin ordered the army to increase its troops by 180,000, per a decree published by the Kremlin. This will raise the overall number of Russian military personnel to 2.38 million people, with 1.5 million of them being active soldiers. Russia has "adapted much better than predicted to some of the pressures it's been put under," Reynolds told BI.
