CNN —A pristine asteroid sample that could serve as a time capsule from the early days of our solar system has finally been revealed. “Far exceeding our goal of 60 grams, this is the biggest carbon-rich asteroid sample ever return to Earth. It’s the largest asteroid sample returned to Earth. The burst of gas lifted rocks and dust all the way from 19 inches (50 centimeters) beneath the space rock’s surface. About 70% of the sample will remain pristine in storage so future generations with better technology can learn even more than what’s now possible.

CNN —Scientists have taken their first glimpse of a sample collected from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu — and stumbled upon a good bit more than they expected. “There’s a lot of abundant material outside the TAGSAM head that’s interesting in its own right. It’s really spectacular to have all that material there.”The actual asteroid sample won’t be revealed until October 11 in a live NASA broadcast. The TAGSAM head will be moved to a new specialized glovebox for careful disassembly, unveiling the sample inside. “We have all the microanalytical techniques that we can throw at this to really, really tear it apart, almost down to the atomic scale,” said Lindsay Keller, OSIRIS-REx sample analysis team member, in a statement.

CNN —The full harvest moon will shine in the early morning hours of September 29, also marking the fourth and final supermoon of 2023. September’s full moon will appear about 5% bigger and 13% brighter than the average full moon, according to NASA. Other monikers for September’s full moon across different indigenous tribes include the corn maker moon from the Abenaki tribe, the moon of the brown leaves from the Lakota people and autumn moon from the Passamaquoddy tribe. Many people associate the harvest moon with being orange in color as it begins to rise, but the same could be said of all full moons. Only part of the moon will pass into shadow as the sun, Earth and moon will not completely align.

Starting January 2, individual contributors and supervisors must work from the office a minimum of three days, managers must work in the office a minimum of four days, and directors and above must work on site full-time, Costco Chief Information Officer Terry Williams told employees in an email. Costco has a similar policy for other corporate employees, but allowed for flexibility for IT employees until now. Another tech challenge for the company is its continued reliance on archaic warehouse management software for inventory management, which several employees have told Insider is a frequent source of frustration. Scientists have long questioned whether Europa’s ocean contained carbon and other chemicals necessary for life. Astronomers used the Webb telescope to observe Jupiter's icy moon Europa. CNN —When the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft swings by Earth on Sunday, it is expected to deliver a rare cosmic gift: a pristine sample collected from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. After releasing the capsule, OSIRIS-REx will continue on its tour of the solar system to capture a detailed look at a different asteroid named Apophis. Returning NASA’s first asteroid sample collected in space to Earth has been years in the making. An illustration depicts the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft as it descended toward the rocky surface of asteroid Bennu. If the spacecraft’s trajectory is on track, the sample capsule is expected to release from OSIRIS-REx 63,000 miles (102,000 kilometers) from Earth on early Sunday.

Robinhood is laying off more employees and reorganizing teams as part of a new focus on credit cards as the company tries to mitigate a shrinking user base, insiders say. In June, Robinhood announced plans to acquire no-fee credit card startup X1 for $95 million. Credit cards are much higher-margin products than stock-trading and generally less exposed to volatile markets. X1 and Robinhood's future in credit cards were the focus of the company's last all-employee meeting, the person said. The layoff was widely reported, but audio of an all-hands meeting reviewed by Insider recently showed ongoing cuts have been deeper .
