Nov 20 (Reuters) - Nissan Motor (7201.T) will hike top wages for workers at U.S. manufacturing plants by 10% in January after the United Auto Workers union reached new contracts with the Detroit Three automakers, a company spokesperson said on Monday. The Japanese automaker said the wage hike takes effect Jan. 8 for production technicians, maintenance, and tool & die technicians. Nissan said it is also eliminating wage tiers for U.S. production workers. Nissan said the pay hikes reflect its commitment to its employees in the United States "and enhancing our competitiveness." The UAW for decades has unsuccessfully sought to organize auto factories operated by foreign automakers.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. financing arm for Toyota was fined $60 million Monday by a federal consumer regulator for preventing car buyers from canceling add-ons to their loans. "Toyota's lending arm illegally withheld refunds, made borrowers run through obstacle courses to cancel unwanted services, and tarnished their credit reports," said Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra. Toyota Motor Credit Corp., or TMCC, violated the Consumer Financial Protection Act by preventing customers from canceling loan add-ons that cost on average between $700 and $2,500 per loan, according to a consent order. TMCC is ordered to pay $48 million in consumer redress and a $12 million civil money penalty to the CFPB's victims relief fund. "Given the growing burdens of auto loan payments on Americans, we will continue to pursue large auto lenders that cheat their customers," Chopra said.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Monday said Toyota Motor Credit, the automaker's U.S.-based lending arm, will pay a $12 million civil fine and $48 million to car buyers harmed since 2016. Toyota Motor Credit, based in Plano, Texas, provides financing for people who buy vehicles at Toyota dealerships, with nearly 5 million customer accounts as of Oct. 2022. Toyota Motor Credit was also accused of falsely telling credit reporting agencies that borrowers had missed payments, and failing to promptly correct negative information for more than 27,500 borrowers. Here is a closer look at Israel’s raid on the Shifa Hospital. Israel has long claimed that Hamas uses hospitals, schools, mosques and residential neighborhoods as human shields. In particular, it says Hamas has hidden command centers and bunkers underneath the sprawling grounds of Shifa. The Israeli military has released videos showing AK47s, ammunition and other military equipment it said was found in the hospital’s MRI unit. Israel has not said where the Shifa tunnel leads to or given specifics on what it was used for.

A still image taken from a video released by the Israeli government said to be of a tunnel below Al-Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza. The military released two videos, one of which appeared to have been filmed by a drone and shows parts of a metal spiral staircase. The Israeli military also released videos later Sunday that it said showed two hostages being taken inside the hospital on Oct. 7, when Hamas launched a cross-border attack from Gaza. They provide further evidence, Israeli officials said, that Hamas has used the hospital area for military operations. It was the same shaft that appeared in the videos released on Sunday.

He lost in a run-off vote to Weah in 2017. "Boakai strikes me as a grandfather figure – someone you would trust with your life. Official results on Friday showed Boakai had 50.9% of the vote over Weah's 49.1%, with more than 99% of votes counted, prompting Weah's concession. In an interview shortly after the results, a softly-spoken Boakai told Reuters that his primary focus would be to bring the country together after a divisive election. Workers at Ford voted 69.3% in favor of the pact, which passed with nearly a 15,000-vote margin in balloting that ended early Saturday. Earlier this week, GM workers narrowly approved a similar contract. They also agreed in principle to bring new electric-vehicle battery plants into the national union contract. This provision will give the UAW an opportunity to unionize the EV battery plants plants, which will represent a rising share of industry jobs in the years ahead. Contracts with the auto companies should also lead to higher wages at auto-parts supply companies and in other industries, Wheaton said.

“The labor contracts don’t mean you go to a dealership and the car costs more money,” said Ivan Drury, analyst for sales tracker Edmunds. If the Big Three could simply pass along higher costs, be it raw material, labor other expenses, in the form of higher prices, no automaker would ever lose money. Even if the labor costs could be passed along in terms of higher prices, it woudn’t be nearly as much as you might think. Any additional labor costs are more likely to eat into automaker profits than they are to raise prices. Another factor driving car prices higher was the desire of consumers to buy cars with more features and options that are now available but were not available in the past.

The German auto giant isn't alone in its struggles, according to CNBC's analysis of 10 global car brands. While Volkswagen remains by far a giant in China's car market with around 3 million vehicles sold a year, the German brand hasn't gained much traction in the electric car space. In July, the company opted to invest about $700 million into Chinese electric car start-up Xpeng to jointly develop two cars for China. Toyota , which has struggled in the market transition to electric cars, is set for its worst year of overall China sales since 2020 with about 1.8 million vehicle sales, CNBC found. Tough competitionAlthough China's new energy market is growing quickly, competition is fierce, even for domestic brands.

A reporter with The Wall Street Journal visited over 100 non-Tesla fast-charging stations across LA. She said 27% of the 126 fast-charging stations she visited did not work for various reasons. Tesla will allow cars from other brands to use its charging stations in the next year. During his drive, he stopped at three different charging stations before he was able to find one that was compatible with his car. The move will make electric vehicle charging more widely available to EV owners and may help address range anxiety among some non-Tesla owners.

Toyota has said that the 2025 Camry will be available exclusively as a hybrid. The family sedan has been the best-selling car in the US for the past two decades. It has been available in gasoline or hybrid versions since 2007, but from 2024 will be hybrid-only. AdvertisementThe $26,000 Camry has been the best-selling car that is not a pickup truck or an SUV in the US for the past two decades. The decision to make the upcoming version exclusively hybrid is a bold one from Toyota, which has so far chosen to prioritize hybrid cars over fully electric vehicles.

The agreement will mean Redwood can recycle batteries from millions of old Prius hybrids. The companies expanded an existing pact so Redwood can recycle batteries from older Toyota vehicles. Redwood Materials wouldn't say how much this Toyota deal is worth. Visitors look at a Toyota Camry car during the Bangkok Auto Salon 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, July 4, 2019. The hybrid powertrain and a new electronic all-wheel drive system deliver 232 combined horsepower – nearly 15% more than the outgoing Camry with a mechanical all-wheel drive system, Toyota said. The cheapest Camry hybrid model currently sells for about $2,400 more than the most inexpensive combustion Camry.
