Katie Stockton, founder of Fairlead Strategies, said investors could look at volatility products as a way to hedge their long positions in the bumpy market right now. The S & P 500 fell into a bear market, and today stands about 15% lower on the year. Samantha LaDuc of LaDuc Trading said that she added a few positions for downside protection recently. "In my 40 years of experience, bear market rallies are more vicious than bull market rallies," Kalayjian said. "I think this is a tradable market right now.

Billionaire investor Leon Cooperman is still bullish on Alphabet. Alphabet , down about 30% year to date, remains a holding of Cooperman's, as does Microsoft , which has lost 24% so far this year. Alphabet, in particular, is "very cheap for what it represents," the CEO of Omega Advisors said in a CNBC Pro Talk Wednesday. However, while Cooperman calls both Alphabet and Microsoft stocks "excellent," he has turned to the options market for a little downside protection. "So they push the market into excess of fair value and they push the market down below fair value and I'm trying to capitalize on the mistakes they are making."
Apple stock was down more than 2% Tuesday, after declining Monday and Friday. Apple's sizeable weighting Apple is 6.5% of the S & P 500 market cap, and technical analysts say it has implications for the broad market both in price impact and sentiment. Apple is 6.5% of the S & P. I would say it's remarkable how strong the S & P 500 is today with a 2% decline in Apple. "I can't imagine that happening without getting a sell signal on the S & P chart." She said the S & P 500 chart is maintaining a buy signal that has been in place for several weeks.
Nov 28 (Reuters) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Monday it had summoned the Norwegian ambassador over what it said was the politically-motivated arrest of Russian citizens for using drones illegally, while Norway said the arrests were legal. The Nordic country is now the European Union's largest gas supplier, following a drop in Russian gas flows. Russian flights have been banned from Norwegian airspace since Feb. 28, due to Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine. This includes Russians flying drones as well as Russian companies flying commercial planes and helicopters. "He also reviewed the status of the cases that are now being processed by Norwegian courts," said a spokesperson for the Norwegian foreign ministry.
The EU argues the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act, to take effect in January, will make the United States a world leader in the electric vehicle market at its expense. Czech industry and trade minister Josef Sikela said all 27 EU members were concerned. He told reporters before a meeting of national trade ministers that time was running out and expressed hope a solution could be found by Dec. 5 when top U.S. and EU officials will meet. He said ministers would discuss how to persuade the United States to modify its act. The objective would not be to launch into a subsidy race, which would be counter-productive," he said.

CNN —Preliminary election results released by Equatorial Guinea’s government on Monday showed the ruling party winning over 99% of votes counted so far in presidential, legislative, and municipal elections held on Sunday. The tiny, authoritarian, oil-producing Central African state is run by President Teodoro Obiang, the world’s longest-ruling head of state, who is seeking to extend his 43 years in office. Early, partial results showed Obiang’s ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) and coalition with 67,012 votes out of 67,196 counted so far. “It is a total fraud,” Esono Ondo told Reuters by phone, saying his party would challenge the result in court. Government and officials of Equatorial Guinea’s election directorate could not be reached for comment.

CNN —FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s near hour-long speech on the eve of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has been described as “crass” and an “insult” to migrant workers by human rights groups. In an explosive, and sometimes bizarre, monologue, Infantino – the boss of world soccer’s governing body – accused Western critics of Qatar’s human rights record of hypocrisy,“Today I feel Qatari. Infantino’s speech was an insult to the thousands of hard working women and men who have made the World Cup possible. The report did not connect all 6,500 deaths with World Cup infrastructure projects and has not been independently verified by CNN. All would have been constructed by migrant workers, who – according to Amnesty International – account for 90% of the workforce in a near-three million population.
"Leadership has shifted away from the tech sector and FANMAG. Two major challenges for tech names Clissold said the tech sector is facing two major challenges. Stockton said the peak in the Nasdaq last November was also the peak of its outperformance versus the S & P 500. The tech sector outperformed the S & P 500, but it was the materials sector that led the index higher, up about 19%. However, the S & P 500 has been up just 20%.
Some strategists expect the S & P 500 to rally as high as about 4,100 and top out there. They had a lead time of two weeks to when the S & P peaked," she said. "I'm not recommending countertrend positions, but I do think think the Nasdaq-100 could outperform temporarily," she said. Scott Redler, partner with T3Live.com, agrees the S & P 500 could rally until 4,100, still below its August high of 4,325. But until then, the S & P will take aim at its 200-day moving average, at 4,078.

Mark Zuckerberg took accountability for the mistake that led to this week's 11,000 job cuts at Meta. That mistake: Thinking the pandemic-era good times for tech would last forever. Many other tech companies made the same mistake. Many people predicted this would be a permanent acceleration that would continue even after the pandemic ended," Zuckerberg wrote in a memo to employees on why he's cutting 11,000 jobs at Meta. Startups raised money in eye-watering amounts, even as the major tech companies saw their share prices soar.
BRUSSELS, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Microsoft (MSFT.O) faces a new antitrust complaint over its cloud computing practices as trade group CISPE, whose members include Amazon (AMZN.O), took its grievance to European Union antitrust regulators on Wednesday. CISPE has alleged that Microsoft's new contractual terms imposed on Oct. 1 together with other practices are irreparably damaging the European cloud computing ecosystem. Amazon is the market leader in the cloud computing sector, followed by Microsoft and Alphabet unit Google . Rivals Amazon.com (AMZN.O), Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google, Alibaba (9988.HK) and Microsoft's own cloud services however are excluded from the changes. The Commission could also add another provision to newly adopted tech rules, known as the Digital Markets Act, prohibiting cloud computing gatekeepers from favouring their software applications, CISPE said.
The path of tech demand has been one of the key questions as markets try to handicap the odds of a 2023 recession. "CEOs and CFOs have no intention of cutting tech spending," said Gartner chief forecaster John-David Lovelock. On the bright side, the GDP report painted a picture of fairly strong technology demand, said Bank of America Merrill Lynch economist Michael Gapen. The shortfall in investment spending was driven by a sharp decline in residential investment, he said. In percentage terms, cloud spending will rise by about 20 percent for the next two to three years, according to Gartner's forecast.

De Bruin, who also competed for Canada at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, admitted to the violation in October and waived her right to a hearing. De Bruin's suspension started on Sept. 28 and runs until Sept. 27, 2025. DES MOINES, Iowa — Two Iowa teenagers killed their high school Spanish teacher last year because of frustration over a bad grade, prosecutors said Tuesday in court documents that for the first time reveal a possible motive. Investigators allege that one of the teens met with Graber at Fairfield High School on the afternoon of Nov. 2, 2021, to discuss their poor grade in her class. Graber later drove her van to a park where she was known to take daily walks after school, authorities say. “The poor grade is believed to be the motive behind the murder of Graber," court documents filed by Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding and Assistant Iowa Attorney General Scott Brown said. Iowa Supreme Court rulings require juveniles convicted of even the most serious crimes to be given a chance for parole.
Some workers are being forced to return to the office while others are allowed to stay home. "If you're offering two different types of employees different access to work, you potentially create an issue of equity," said Thomas Roulet, an associate professor of organizational theory at the University of Cambridge. To be sure, not all workplaces unevenly apply in-person work requirements: Some allow workers the choice of returning to the office and, if so, how often. Why are some employees allowed to work from home while others are required to come into the office? "Companies are experimenting to see if something works, and many employees need to be just as flexible in giving it a shot," she said.
