President-elect Donald Trump raised eyebrows when he decided to hold a campaign rally in the Bronx in late May. Results so far show Trump winning more than 27% of the vote in the Bronx, shrinking his margin of defeat there significantly. Not only did the Teamsters decline to endorse, Murtaugh noted, but they also released polling in swing states, including Pennsylvania, that showed Trump winning over large numbers of their members. ‘We have no easy path here’For one Democratic policy aide, the biggest concern was movement among younger voters. And what happened [Tuesday] was a Louisville Slugger baseball bat going upside the head of the Democratic Party for not telling people the truth.

Incumbent governments have been punished in Britain, France, India, Japan, South Korea, and elsewhere. The near-universal shift away from Democrats echoes voters' rejection of incumbent political parties across the world this year. South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) party lost its majority. Similarly, Deutsche Bank's Reid wrote that voters are disappointed by how slowly their lives are improving amid cooler economic growth. He said they don't buy that incumbents can tackle immigration, some incumbent governments have had scandals, and voters have become "much more willing to change their vote from election to election."

Was music really better when you were younger?

As I see other generations of music lovers say music was so much better when they were younger, I wondered why. “It’s not that music was better when (we) were younger; it’s that music elicits very, very strong emotions,” said Dr. Rita Aiello, a music psychologist at New York University who examines how people process music and how music and memories shape each other. “Music is episodic,” said Dr. Robert Cutietta, a professor of music at the University of Southern California. A 2022 replication of the latter study in Marketing Letters: A Journal of Research in Marketing found that a person’s music preference peaks as young as 17. It may be because you’re remembering the artists, songs and albums that were meaningful to you and forgetting the ones that weren’t.

For one, the market was already in a sturdy uptrend, the S & P ahead by 20% in 2024 by October. Now, the S & P is up 44% in the past 18 months and the P/E is above 22 on more elevated margins. Here's the S & P 500 Value vs Growth relationship since 2014. His call is for investors to fade any near-term rally that takes the S & P above his 6100 "bull case" target for year end. A firebrand legal adviser to the President-elect and a conservative lawyer under consideration for the post of Attorney General appear to be setting the stage for investigations and prosecution of Donald Trump’s legal adversaries, including Special Counsel Jack Smith and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The threats come as Trump campaign aides say that the president-elect considers his choice for attorney general to be his most important single appointment. Paoletta is among several people under consideration to run the Justice Department, people familiar with the matter tell NBC News. All of those people have claimed—without citing any specific evidence— that the federal prosecutions of Trump by Smith were politically motivated. The Trump Justice Department will have access to every text, email and memo written by everyone on the Smith team on government phones and computers during the investigation.

The exact number of people who could face deportation after arriving in the U.S. legally is not known, but it is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands. Trump’s plan to end the two Biden programs comes as the president-elect’s promised plan to carry out mass deportations is taking clearer shape. The sources cautioned, though, that they may not be considered top priorities for deportation after Trump takes office, but could still be deported eventually. Since the migrants entered the U.S. legally, any attempt by Trump to deport them will likely be challenged in court by various groups. Trump used a similar policy at the end of his first term when the U.S. deported migrants from third countries to Guatemala.

The Chinese military has increased its provocative flights around Taiwan by 300% over the last five months, according to the commander of the U.S. Air Forces in the Indo-Pacific Command. In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Gen. Kevin Schneider warned that People’s Liberation Air Force activities have increased dramatically since Taiwan’s new president was inaugurated in May. Schneider noted that the Chinese Air Force has maintained the increased activity level since Lai Ching-te was sworn in on May 20. Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that he intends to unify Taiwan with mainland China and has steadily ramped up military pressure on democratically governed Taiwan. Trump has not committed to defending Taiwan during a Chinese military invasion.

Trump was indicted in the case in August 2023, but significant delays have kept it from going to trial. Bomb threats sent to polling places and ballot-counting locations in at least five battleground states across the U.S. Tuesday targeted mostly Democratic counties, an NBC News analysis has found. Of the 67 locations, 56 were in 11 counties that voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election, including the eight most populated. Those high-population Democratic counties include voting locations for Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Detroit, Michigan; Phoenix, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Maricopa County, Arizona, which Biden won by a slim margin, has consistently been the subject of election denialism conspiracy theories. China’s new J-35A stealth fighter jet will be displayed for the first time next week at the country’s biggest civil and military airshow, a biennial event where Beijing showcases its expanding aerospace industry. The J-35A, which uses airstrips to take off and land, is a variant of the J-35, a stealthy aircraft China is developing for use on aircraft carriers. Diplomats and security analysts have closely watched the evolution of J-35 variants given the importance of the plane to China’s aircraft carrier program, which seeks to expand jets’ range and payload to project power beyond China’s home waters. Monday marks the 75th anniversary of the PLAAF, which will have its largest presence at the airshow, according to Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency. WASHINGTON — Republicans are gearing up to lock in their remake of the judiciary under President-elect Donald Trump and a new Senate majority, including potentially installing several more conservative Supreme Court justices. Conservatives are prepared for Supreme Court retirements, with the most attention on Justice Samuel Alito, 74. GOP won't pursue Supreme Court ethics rulesTrump already transformed the federal courts in his first term, appointing 54 appeals court judges and 174 district court judges, many of whom are closely linked with the Federalist Society, a conservative legal group. Yet Durham found that no senior FBI or CIA officials had committed crimes. Former intelligence officials disagree on whether Trump would seek to use the spy agencies against domestic political opponents, and if he did, how the intelligence workforce and courts would respond. Presidents face few legal constraints when it comes to their authority over the intelligence agencies, legal experts and former senior officials said. Supporters of Trump say dire warnings about the future of the intelligence agencies under a new Trump administration are hysterical and overblown, and that his record at the White House shows that he strengthened the spy agencies. “And the other is the risk that the intelligence agencies will be directed to do things that are either unlawful or inappropriate.”

Donald Trump's second presidency could help supercharge small cap stocks further, according to Fundstrat managing partner and head of research Tom Lee. "Since 1987 small caps traded on a median price-to-earnings [ratio] at a premium basis to the S & P 500, and the S & P 500 is at 17 times. I think small caps could over the next couple of years outperform by more than 100%," Lee told CNBC's " Squawk Box " on Friday. Lee is also bullish on equities more broadly, and doesn't limit his optimistic outlook to only small caps. He also forecast the S & P 500 could break above 6,000 before the end of the year and top 6,700 in 2025.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday identified what to look out for next week on Wall Street, highlighting earnings from Home Depot , Disney and new consumer price index data from the Labor Department. Cramer also reflected on the Trump-fueled market rally over the past few days, saying there are likely more gains to come. Tuesday has more action, with earnings from Home Depot, Shopify , Tyson Foods and Spotify . Because Tyson Foods is a major meat seller, Cramer said investors can learn a lot about grocery pricing from the company's earnings commentary. Cramer added that some believe there's weak demand in the semiconductor capital equipment sector, but he said it's possible an earnings report from Applied Materials could "change that dynamic."
