US House blocks rebuke of Tlaib over Israeli-Palestinian rally

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced the resolution on Oct. 26, accusing Tlaib of "antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Complex." Greene's resolution refers to a peaceful demonstration in a House office building, during which hundreds of protesters were arrested. The corruption charges against Santos also include reporting a false $500,000 campaign loan and lying to the House about his assets. The former treasurer for Santos' campaign pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 to a conspiracy charge for inflating fundraising numbers. "Mr. Santos is a stain on this institution and not fit to serve his constituents in the House of Representatives," Anthony D'Esposito, one of the House Republican lawmakers behind the resolution, said on the House floor.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on Wednesday on whether or not to expel Republican congressman George Santos after he was indicted on corruption charges, a highly unusual move that could erode his party's narrow majority. It requires a vote by two-thirds of the chamber to expel a lawmaker. Republican lawmakers from Santos' state of New York said last month they would introduce a resolution to expel Santos, but the move was delayed by weeks when the House was leaderless following the ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy. The corruption charges against Santos also include reporting a false $500,000 campaign loan and lying to the House about his assets. The House Ethics Committee has also said it is looking into allegations involving Santos.

NEW YORK (AP) — In a closing argument, a prosecutor told a New York jury Wednesday to follow overwhelming evidence and the “pyramid of deceit” that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried constructed to conclude he’s guilty of defrauding his customers and investors of at least $10 billion. “He told a story and he lied to you,” Roos told jurors just a day after Bankman-Fried concluded his testimony at the monthlong trial. FTX was bankrupt.”“Who was responsible?” Roos asked, only to quickly point to Bankman-Fried, sitting between his lawyers. He spent his customers' money and he lied to them about it.”The prosecutor said Bankman-Fried spent the money on real estate, donations, promotions, investments and political contributions. Roos told jurors that if they believe even one of the four former executives who testified against him, they must convict Bankman-Fried.

AI is making its way into the courtroom and legal process

"AI is really reaching all aspects of the law," said Wayne Cohen, managing partner at Cohen & Cohen and a law professor at the George Washington University School of Law. While the current use of AI in the U.S. legal industry operates intensely behind the scenes, it's inching further into the front lines of the courtroom. Jason Boehmig, CEO and co-founder of digital contract company Ironclad and who has experience as a corporate attorney, said AI can review a company's legal contracts, learning its preferred language and drafting and negotiating contracts in the organization's historic legal voice. On the spectrum of the legal system, the businesses on either end of the contract arguably have less to lose than, say, an individual whose basic freedoms are at stake. In all of these applications, experts say the ideal situation is for humans to review AI's work.

A decade later, Trump's failed Bills bid is one of the business moves under scrutiny in the trial of a lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. In offering to buy the Bills, Trump cited his net worth as $8 billion in an initial offer letter but never provided his financial statements. Throughout the sale process, Cohen insisted Trump was serious about his bid and his commitment to keeping the Bills in Buffalo. “There’s nobody more serious than Donald Trump,” Cohen said in an interview with The Associated Press in 2014. Trump told the AP in 2016 that had he been able to buy the Bills, it’s unlikely that he would've run for president.

Two doctors listed on Spora's website as "featured Spora providers" also told Insider that they no longer worked for the startup. While executive stock sales — such as Dimon's planned transactions next year — are not universally red flags, they can get complicated. Insider stock sales Executive stock trades are usually disclosed through SEC filings known as Form 4 documents and accessible through the regulator's EDGAR database — the electronic data gathering, analysis, and retrieval system. Rule 10b5-1 trading plans came into the fold just over two decades ago to reconcile these two discordant facts. Adopting Rule 10b5-1 trading plans gives public-company executives a way to protect against allegations of illegal insider trading in the future. Compared with a tiny stock sale executed through a predetermined plan, executive stock buys generally send a much stronger signal: The executive wants to make money, too.

China spent 1.4 trillion yuan ($191 billion) replacing foreign hardware and software in 2022, marking a year-on-year increase of 16.2%, according to IT research firm First New Voice. Two firms awarded the Harbin tenders were subsidiaries of China Electronics Corporation and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation - both heavily targeted by U.S. sanctions. The U.S. Department of Commerce, China Electronics Corporation and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation did not return requests for comment. Despite heavy spending on domestic substitution, however, foreign firms are still dominant suppliers for banking and telecoms database management. Non-Chinese companies held 90% of market share for banking database systems at the end of 2022, according to EqualOcean, a tech consultancy.

Just like the cloud transformed every software category, we think AI is one such transformational shift. Therefore, this notion of Copilots that we're introducing is really going to be revolutionary in terms of driving productivity and communication. Milton Friedman once famously said: "the business of business is business." One is, is the business of business just business? So, I think AI can actually be very helpful in many ways to be a little more empathetic and more understanding of the world.

Kenneth Chesebro, a lawyer criminally charged in Georgia for his role in what prosecutors describe as a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election in favor of Donald J. Trump, accepted a plea deal on Friday, becoming the third of 19 co-defendants to plead guilty in the wide-ranging criminal racketeering indictment that also names Mr. Trump. The plea from Mr. Chesebro, 62, came a day after Sidney K. Powell, another Trump-aligned lawyer charged in the case, pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with the prosecution. Both defendants had exercised their right to a speedy trial under Georgia law, and had been preparing for jury selection to start on Monday. Under the agreement, Mr. Chesebro pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of conspiracy to commit filing of false documents and was sentenced to five years’ probation, although if he complies with its terms he may later ask that his probation be reduced to three years. He was also instructed to write a letter of apology to the state of Georgia (he said he had already done so) and to pay $5,000 in restitution to the Georgia secretary of state’s office.
