Stellantis plans to offer a $25,000 all-electric Jeep vehicle in the U.S. "very soon" to better attract mainstream consumers amid slower-than-expected electric vehicle adoption, CEO Carlos Tavares said Wednesday. "In the same way we brought the 20,000 Euro Citroen e-C3, you will have a $25,000 Jeep very soon," he said Wednesday during a Bernstein investor conference. Stellantis currently offers an all-electric version of its Avenger SUV in Europe, starting at about 35,000 euros, or about $37,800, according to its website. Offering a new EV for around $25,000 has long been a target for automakers such as Stellantis, Tesla and others. "If you ask me what is an affordable BEV, I would say 20,000 euros in Europe and $25,000 in the U.S.," Tavares said.

Wimbledon gets underway on July 1, with the Olympic tennis tournament starting less than a month later on July 27. “It looks difficult,” Nadal, who won singles gold at Beijing 2008, said of his Wimbledon prospects. I think tomorrow I will be ready to play again if I had to – but I will not have to,” he laughed. “I need to clear my ideas now and see what the new calendar is for me to be ready for the Olympics.

CNN —Colombia has approved a bill banning bullfights, marking a significant victory for animal rights activists over advocates who argued to uphold the sport in the South American country. On Tuesday, 93 congressmen voted in favor of banning bullfighting – with only two against it – sending the bill to President Gustavo Petro for final approval. Colombia is one of only eight countries where bullfighting still takes place. The others are France, Portugal, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Spain and Venezuela, where the controversial sport still commands audiences but also firm opposition. Other countries in South America which have already banned the practice include Brazil and Argentina.

CNN —Tensions are once again ratcheting up in the Taiwan Strait, with China launching military drills encircling Taiwan just days after the democracy swore in a new leader long loathed by Beijing. The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) said it launched joint military drills involving the army, navy, air force and rocket force in areas around Taiwan early Thursday morning. The drills are being conducted in the Taiwan Strait – a narrow body of water separating the self-ruling island with mainland China – as well as north, south and east of Taiwan. The Chinese guided missile frigate Nantong, one of the vessels in the series of military drills around Taiwan. The defeated Nationalist Party fled to Taiwan, moving the seat of their Republic of China (ROC) government from the mainland to Taipei.

Vivid, disturbing nightmares may be a sign of a newly developing autoimmune disorder or an upcoming flare of existing disease, experts say. Researchers found 3 in 5 lupus patients, and 1 in 3 patients with other rheumatology-related diseases, had increasingly vivid and distressing nightmares just before their hallucinations. Systemic autoimmune diseases often have a range of symptoms, called prodromes, that appear as signs of a sudden and possibly dangerous worsening of the condition. Connect the dots to autoimmune diseaseOn first glance, it would make sense that such neurological manifestations as nightmares would occur if the autoimmune disease impacts the brain, which lupus often does, Sloan said. “In some cases, reporting these symptoms earlier, even if they seem strange and unconnected, may lead to the doctor being able to ‘join the dot’s’ to diagnose an autoimmune disease.”

CNN —Months before Donald Trump was indicted for mishandling classified documents, a federal judge said that investigators had “strong evidence” that the former president “intended” to hide classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort, according to newly released court documents. Judge Beryl Howell cited, among other things, the discovery of additional classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago months after the FBI’s search of the property in the summer of 2022. The ruling was among hundreds of pages of previously sealed filings that were publicly docketed Tuesday in the criminal classified documents case against Trump. Nauta has been charged alongside Trump and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira in the case, facing charges of mishandling sensitive or classified materials and obstruction. The case against Trump, brought last summer, is currently in front of Judge Aileen Cannon in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Beginning around the 1940s, a neighborhood near downtown Palm Springs became home to mostly Black and Latino residents. The one-square-mile tract was on the land of the Cahuilla Indians and offered one of the few places minorities could live because of racial housing discrimination. After a federal law change in 1959, these residents were evicted and their homes destroyed to make way for economic development. For years, former residents said they were evicted with little or no notice.
