In today’s edition, politics reporter Allan Smith looks at how Elon Musk could help (or hurt) Donald Trump on the campaign trail. Plus, national political correspondent Steve Kornacki breaks down the different paths to victory Kamala Harris and Trump are attempting to chart in Pennsylvania. The disparate images helped paint a picture of both the benefits and the detriments to having Musk in Trump’s corner. Musk’s appearance at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally over the weekend was the culmination of a yearslong rightward drift for the eccentric billionaire, expedited by his purchase of Twitter in 2022. After his appearance in western Pennsylvania, Musk started to offer people $47 if they successfully get a swing-state voter to sign onto a petition backing the First and Second Amendments.

Fed easing hasn't led to lower mortgage rates, with the 30-year fixed rate actually rising since the first rate cut. Mortgage rates are closely linked to the 10-year US Treasury yield, which have also risen over the period. AdvertisementThe Federal Reserve's jumbo interest-rate cut in mid-September was welcome news to prospective homebuyers, with the expectation that a lower fed funds rate would help push mortgage rates lower. According to data from Mortgage News Daily, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate has jumped about 47 basis points since the Fed rate cut, to 6.62% from 6.15%. Whether that will manifest itself in lower mortgage rates is up in the air.

Ballroom dancing has given her a social life and improved her physical and mental health. AdvertisementThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Charlotte Page, a 24-year-old venture capitalist based primarily in Florida. It seemed really fun and a great way to develop a friend group, so I decided to try ballroom dancing. Ballroom dancing has made such a difference in my life and helped me find friends outside work. Being able to move after a long day of sitting at work and really let loose is just so nice.

Sam's ClubGRAPEVINE, Texas — When shoppers walk into Sam's Club's newest store, they'll soon see a shiny blue Mercedes-Benz SUV, a sectional sofa and zero checkout lanes. Sam's ClubSince Walmart's founder Sam Walton opened the first Sam's Club in 1983, the membership-based club has become the more tech-savvy arm of its retail-behemoth parent. Nicholas said upon its reopening, the location will become a testing ground for Sam's Club's newest features and emerging technology. Sam's Club and Costco have roughly the same number of U.S. clubs, but Costco pulls in about twice as much annual revenue. Sam's Club also opened The Clubhouse in August, an approximately 37,000-square-foot office building across from the retailer's headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Sweden registered 81,301 asylum seekers in 2014, data shows. Jonas Ekstromer | Afp | Getty Images"It pains me that Sweden is no longer capable of receiving asylum seekers at the high level we do today. Since then, Sweden's immigration policy has been on a one-way street. A decade ago, all member states of the European Union were encouraged to welcome asylum seekers and refugees fleeing conflict zones in the Middle East, notably Syria but also Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, Sweden is expected to have its lowest number of asylum seekers since 1997.

Jim Cramer is planning to stay in the game with Constellation Brands , despite a Wall Street firm moving to the sidelines on the Mexican beer importer. Shares of New York-based Constellation Brands fell 1.5% Monday, off their lows of the session. In the June-to-August period reported Thursday, beer sales rose 6%, compared with increases of 8%, 11% and 11.8% in its three prior quarters. In explaining why we're sticking with Constellation, Jim said Monday he liked what he heard from Constellation Brands CEO Bill Newlands during the executive's appearance Friday on "Mad Money." The (Donald) Trump campaign, on the other hand, is looking to the Sun Belt. Instead of knocking on doors in key states, Trump’s allies are using funding from tech billionaire Elon Musk to do some nontraditional things. But some things are still going to be much more expensive on Election Day than they were when Trump was president. It’s one month to Election Day, but that’s a little bit of a misnomer. No matter what happens with the 2024 election, Trump is unlikely to accept the results if Harris wins.

Job seekers who are patient can learn something about their prospective employer, an exec told BI. But lately, the slogging has grown more intense as some employers tack interview after interview onto the hiring process. It can be maddening for job seekers forced to sit through rounds of interviews that might stretch into the double digits. That means some employers put job seekers through more rounds than an NFL draft. Having a boatload of interviews gives job seekers more chances to determine whether an employer is a good fit for them.
