“It also depends on the rate of climate change we are inducing as humanity,” van Westen said. They found after 1,750 years “an abrupt AMOC collapse,” but so far are unable to translate that simulated timeline to Earth's real future. "This value is getting more negative under climate change,” van Westen said. On Wednesday, Microsoft revealed its Super Bowl ad for Copilot's standalone smartphone app that can answer user queries akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT. But viewers who've been following Microsoft's AI efforts may be wondering: what about Bing chat, the AI-powered search engine that the company launched months before Copilot? Bing, which added AI capabilities to its search engine last February, had around only 3% of the search market within that same time frame. Microsoft's shift from Bing to Copilot comes as the tech company seeks to integrate Copilot across its product lines.

A year ago, when Washington and much of Europe were still awash in optimism that Ukraine was on the verge of repelling Russia from its territory, it seemed inconceivable that the United States would turn its back on the victim of Vladimir V. Putin’s aggression. Now, even as Senate Democrats try to salvage an aid package for Ukraine, that possibility remains real. And the political moment feels a long way from 14 months ago when President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine stood before a joint session of Congress, wearing his signature drab green sweater, and basked in a minute-long standing ovation. The turnaround has surprised the White House. Even if the Senate manages to advance military aid, there are still plenty of reasons to doubt that the money will come through, including deep opposition among Republicans in the House and former President Donald J. Trump’s push for a more isolationist stance.

Biden stands as the overwhelming favorite to win the South Carolina primary against comparatively weak opposition: U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota and Marianne Williamson, an author who ran unsuccessfully in 2020. In drawing up the official primary calendar, Democratic officials put South Carolina first. Biden hopes to win South Carolina by a whopping margin, which might infuse his candidacy with more energy and help deflect attention from his low standing in public opinion polls. A total of 55 delegates are at stake Saturday in South Carolina. South Carolina Democrats want a huge turnout to justify the party's decision to bump the state to the front of the line.

Chinese tech giants are racing to catch up with US firms like OpenAI in the AI arms race. Over 40 AI models have been approved for public use by the government, per local news reports. China has tight controls on AI , with tech companies required to "adhere to socialist values." Unlike their US rivals, Chinese companies that develop their own chatbots face political as well as technological challenges. That has meant that many of the country's most advanced AI models have a tendency to avoid sensitive topics, such as the status of Taiwan.
