When the reigning Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, Noelia Voigt and UmaSofia Srivastava, resigned last month, it rocked the pageant world. Even when the organization has faced allegations of racism, sexual harassment and pageant rigging in the past, no titleholder had ever before stepped down. Some pageant contestants said they were disillusioned with Miss USA and described the environment as toxic. We want to learn more about Miss USA, its parent company Miss Universe and the pageant world more broadly. The idea that phones are bad for younger teens has hit a crescendo — and parents are taking action. The teens have been told that phones are bad for teens, so they've convinced themselves that their friends who had phones earlier are now addicted and worse off. But there's also pushback on the overall idea that scientific evidence points to social media and phones being bad for teens' mental health. And yet, even if academic studies are lacking, it is really hard to ignore common sense about teens and phones.

☆ Mount Everest climber sets record for fastest ascent by a woman

CNN —Twenty-four hours and 26 minutes, without stopping to sleep: Nepal’s Phunjo Lama has just broken the world record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest by a woman. Her journey from Everest Base Camp to the top took 14 hours and 31 minutes, then the descent from Everest was another nine hours and 18 minutes. Due to the limited climbing season and challenging conditions on Mount Everest, the window to reach the top of the mountain is small. That record was broken in 2021 by Hong Kong native Ada Tsang in 25 hours and 50 minutes. Currently, the record for fastest ascent by a male climber is 10 hours and 56 minutes, set by Nepali Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa in 2003.
