The agency said an extensive review of available data determined that the ingredient, oral phenylephrine, doesn't actually relieve nasal congestion. The FDA said the proposed order is not based on safety concerns and not final yet, which means companies can still market over-the-counter drugs containing oral phenylephrine for now. Last year, CVS said it has already moved to pull certain medicines containing oral phenylephrine. The designation, typically used for older medicines, allows drugmakers to include an ingredient in over-the-counter products without the need to file an FDA application.

Trump defeated Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, and Republicans claimed a majority of the Senate in elections this week. "We know kind of where the world is headed in a Trump environment because we've seen it before," said Jeffrey Solomon, president of TD Cowen, on CNBC's "Money Movers" Wednesday. One M&A advisor, who also spoke to CNBC anonymously, noted that Trump's disdain for Big Tech companies — historically active deal-makers — might keep them on the sidelines. Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group , President-elect Donald Trump's media company, plunged in premarket trading Thursday, giving back the rally in the previous session triggered by his election victory. Trump Media, which is the operator of Truth Social, was viewed as a proxy for Trump's election odds in the past few months. The stock had shot up as much as 60% early Wednesday as Trump was projected to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris. The media company, majority owned by Trump, went public in March via a blank-check merger and now trades under ticker DJT — Trump's initials. Trump Media released a surprise earnings statement after the bell Tuesday that showed the company lost $19.2 million in the third quarter.

In a Thursday interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins said the online sports betting industry is at a turning point as more people across the country realize they can gamble legally. "We're at a very, you know, important inflection point in the industry," Robins said. "Most people assume that it's legal in most states now if not all. DraftKings cut its full-year guidance for 2024 when it reported Thursday after the close, sending shares down nearly 6% in extended trading. "I would expect most states over the long term will have some form of legal sports betting, and hopefully we'll get those three."
