Does the MIND Diet Prevent Dementia?
  + stars: | 2023-08-31 | by ( Alice Callahan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
What is the MIND diet? The MIND diet was first described in a 2015 study led by Martha Clare Morris, a nutritional epidemiologist at Rush University, who died in 2020. The MIND diet is unique, however, in that it calls for at least six servings of leafy greens and two servings of berries each week. Does the MIND diet benefit the brain? But these studies can’t prove that the MIND diet itself leads to better brain health.

Up from $48 billion in the same period a year earlier, the losses were the second highest since 2011, spurred by $34 billion in losses tied to the U.S. storms, the highest ever for a six-month period. Globally, severe convective storms, which can include thunder, lightening, heavy rain, strong winds and sudden changes in temperature caused losses of $35 billion, Swiss Re said. "With severe thunderstorms as the main driver for above-average insured losses in the first half of 2023, this secondary peril becomes one of the dominant global drivers of insured losses," Martin Bertogg, Head of Catastrophe Perils at Swiss Re, said. "The above‑average losses reaffirm a 5–7% annual growth trend in insured losses, driven by a warming climate but even more so, by rapidly growing economic values in urbanized settings, globally." During the same period, overall economic losses - which includes damage that is not insured - were $120 billion, down slightly from $123 billion in the prior-year period, but 46% above the 10-year average, Swiss Re said.

However, at a press conference on Tuesday, Nowitzki admitted that his impending inauguration has not yet fully resonated with his children. Nowitzki scored 35,223 points across 21 seasons in Dallas, playing 1,667 games for the only NBA team he ever featured for – only John Stockton played more games for one team across his career. CNN —Extreme heat is far deadlier than other natural disasters, killing on average more than twice as many people each year as hurricanes and tornadoes combined, according to data tracked by the National Weather Service. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego recently told Biden the city’s extreme heat is a “long-term emergency.” But it can’t get FEMA federal assistance unless Congress amends the Stafford Act – something some Western lawmakers are pushing for. “Just because we don’t necessarily have the authorities right now in the Stafford Act, that doesn’t mean we’re sitting idly by,” Criswell said. “Right now, FEMA doesn’t treat extreme heat in the same way as it does other disasters because it can’t,” Juanita Constible, senior climate and health advocate for the Natural Resources Defense Council, told CNN. “Adding it to that official list from Congress would clarify FEMA’s role in addressing heat,” Keith said.

How much do you need for a down payment on a house? On a $200,000 home, a 3% down payment means you'll need $6,000. FHA mortgage: 3.5%To get an FHA mortgage, you'll need at least a 3.5% down payment. It depends on what type of loan you're getting, but you may need between $9,000 and $60,000 for a down payment on a $300,000 house. A 20% down payment on a house allows you to avoid paying for private mortgage insurance, meaning you'll have a lower monthly mortgage payment and likely a lower mortgage rate as well.
