CNN —A Florida woman was found guilty of second-degree murder Friday after authorities said she zipped her boyfriend up in a suitcase and left him for dead back in 2020. Sarah Boone, now 47, told authorities her boyfriend got trapped in a suitcase and died during a game of hide-and-seek, court records show. Boone also testified she thought Torres could get out of the suitcase, the affiliate said. She testified in her own defense for almost five hours, CNN affiliate WESH reported. Boone’s attorney said they were very disappointed following the verdict, while the family of Torres was emotional and declined to speak with the media, CNN affiliate WESH reported.

“South Carolina is a great state. Or would a more fitting tribute to Smalls be to recognize the statesman who served in the South Carolina House and Senate and the U.S. House after the Civil War? That’s how Republican Rep. Chip Campsen, an occasional ship pilot himself, sees honoring one of his favorite South Carolinians. While South Carolina has a monument with multiple panels honoring the struggle of African Americans from their journey on slave ships through today, it doesn’t honor an individual Black man or women among the two dozen monuments scattered around the Statehouse. I think it is important that we tell that the right way to honor him and to honor south Carolina.

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a “closing argument” speech in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday at the site where former President Donald Trump spoke shortly before the Jan. 6 riot, according to a senior campaign official. Harris will argue it's time to turn the page on Trump and choose a new way forward, the official said. Suzanne Simpson, 51, a mother of four, was last seen outside her San Antonio home on the morning of Oct. 7 by her neighbor. Neighbors called police after they saw her arguing with her husband, Brad Simpson, NBC affiliate WOAI reported. The neighbor later heard screaming coming from nearby woods and Brad Simpson's truck leaving an hour later. Brad Simpson was arrested Oct. 10 and faces two charges of family violence, according to court records. Unlike many grizzly bears, she was often seen near roads in Grand Teton, drawing crowds and traffic jams. Some believe male grizzlies kill cubs to bring the mother into heat. More than 1,000 people quickly posted comments calling her a queen, a legend and an ambassador for grizzly bears. Hunters sometimes mistake grizzlies for legal-to-hunt black bears or kill grizzlies in self-defense — and wildlife managers often kill grizzlies that prey on cattle and sheep.

New York CNN —The US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Goldman Sachs and Apple to pay $89 million, and Goldman was temporarily banned from issuing new credit cards, because of the companies’ mishandling of their Apple Card partnership. Apple neglected to send tens of thousands of Apple Card disputes to Goldman Sachs, the CFPB said. The Apple Card issued by Goldman Sachs and running on the Mastercard network rolled out in August 2019. In April 2023, Apple announced it would be offering its Apple Card holders a 4.15% high-yield savings account with Goldman Sachs. They may park both the 3% cash back they receive from using the Apple Card on select purchases plus other savings they may wish to deposit.
