Honeywell International is putting cash to work with a big acquisition in the security space. The all-cash deal is Honeywell's largest acquisition in eight years, and one that should bolster its struggling building technologies division . By acquiring Carrier's Global Access Solutions unit — which manufactures products like electronic locks, video monitoring apps and fire alarms — Honeywell is setting itself up to benefit from growing demand for safety and access solutions. "You will never see a roll back in safety and security," Jim said during an interview with Honeywell CEO Vimal Kapur on Friday. A host of new data centers, drug manufacturing plants and semiconductor fabrication plants will require digital access solutions and robust security options.

We're adding to our Eaton position after learning about data center news that makes us even more bullish about this power management company. Late Thursday, Blackstone and Digital Realty announced a huge joint venture to develop $7 billion worth of data centers across Europe and North America. News like this is fantastic for Eaton, whose largest end market by sales is Data Centers & Distributed IT, representing about 15% of sales. In the press release announcing the deal, Gray said, "Data centers are experiencing once-in-a-generation demand growth, driven by cloud adoption and the AI revolution." AI data centers require both higher power and higher power density relative to traditional data centers, resulting in three times the electric content.

Yields on the U.S. benchmark 10-year Treasury , which move inversely to prices, saw their steepest decline in more than a decade. The Fed chair reiterated that the fight against inflation was far from finished and said the central bank was ready to further tighten monetary policy if necessary. Investors see a strong chance of the central bank delivering a rate cut as early as March 2024, LSEG data show. In late 2022, for example, many expected a recession would hit this year, forcing the Fed to loosen monetary policy. The economy proved resilient while monetary policy stayed tight.
