The National Football League is sticking with X, formerly known as Twitter, as Elon Musk's site faces an advertiser revolt over hate speech and antisemitism on the platform. The NFL has partnered with the platform since 2013 as part of an effort to bring fans exclusive content. Last week, Musk agreed with a post on the platform accusing "Jewish communities" of pushing "hatred against whites," CNBC reported earlier this month. Earlier this month, left-leaning media watchdog site MediaMatters.org posted instances of Apple, Bravo and Oracle ads appearing next to antisemitic content on Musk's platform. X on Monday sued Media Matters over the report, coinciding with an investigation launched by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton into the watchdog site for possible fraudulent activity.

In addition to the records, the House Democrats asked Yaccarino and Musk to detail how X plans to address Hamas-related content currently on the platform. The already "inexcusable" issue of antisemitic content on X, they wrote, had become "outright indefensible" since the deadly Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel by Hamas militants. More than two dozen House Democrats on Tuesday accused Elon Musk 's X of "profiting off violent content by a terrorist organization" and demanded that he and CEO Linda Yaccarino address Hamas -related content on the social media platform . "You have said the actual truth," Musk wrote last Wednesday in response to that post. Instead, the Democrats highlighted numerous X accounts that have reportedly been "spreading Hamas terrorist propaganda videos glorifying barbaric acts of violence against Israelis."

Elon Musk's social media company, X, sued Media Matters for America and one of its staff members Monday over an investigative report the progressive watchdog organization published saying Nazi content ran on the X app alongside advertisements from major corporations. News of the lawsuit coincided with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's announcing an investigation into Media Matters for possible fraudulent activity. Media Matters President Angelo Carusone said the website would defend itself. Media Matters stands behind its reporting and looks forward to winning in court," he said in a statement. In the lawsuit, X alleges that Media Matters' portrayal of the app is untrue because its article did not reflect what typical users see.

CNN —After days of silence following X owner Elon Musk’s endorsement of an antisemitic post, the NFL said Tuesday that it has conveyed its displeasure with the social media company. “The NFL unequivocally denounces all forms of hate speech and discrimination,” Brian McCarthy, the NFL’s chief spokesperson, said in a statement. “We’re aware of instances of hate speech on X and have expressed our concerns directly to X both in the past and again in the last few days,” McCarthy added. Earlier this year, the NFL also expressed concern after a Media Matters report found the league’s ads were appearing next to racist accounts on the social media platform. Earlier Tuesday, an NFL executive told CNBC that it was sticking with the platform despite the rise in hate speech.

New York CNN —Elon Musk on Monday boosted the dangerous, years-old “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, just days after being roundly criticized and facing an advertiser exodus following his embrace of an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Musk last week faced backlash from the White House and others for engaging with an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Musk’s company has also claimed that Media Matters’ report was misleading and that it has taken steps to combat antisemitism and discrimination on the platform. X on Monday sued Media Matters, accusing it of distorting how likely it is for ads to appear beside extremist content on X. However, X has not removed the pro-Nazi accounts mentioned in Media Matters’ report, instead saying that their posts had little engagement and that they would no longer be eligible for monetization.

IBM, NBCUniversal and its parent company Comcast said last week that they stopped advertising on X after the Media Matters report said their ads were appearing alongside material praising Nazis. The Media Matters report pointed to ads from Apple and Oracle that also were placed next to antisemitic material on X. It says Media Matters did this by using X accounts that just followed X users known to produce “extreme fringe content” and accounts owned by X’s major advertisers. This, the complaint says, led to a feed aimed at producing side-by-side placements that Media Matters could then screen shot in an effort to alienate X's advertisers. Media Matters said Monday that it stands by its reporting and expects to prevail in court.

Hundreds of major brands paused their ad spend after Musk’s acquisition over concerns about content moderation and the platform’s future under the eccentric billionaire. But at least a half dozen major advertisers, including media giants Disney, Paramount and NBCUniversal, halted their spending on X on Friday. The decisions to drop the platform followed criticism of Musk over his public embrace of an antisemitic conspiracy theory favored by White supremacists. “No critic will ever deter us from our mission to protect free speech,” Yaccarino said in the Sunday letter.

The X post, which Tapper showed DeSantis, said: “Jewish communties (sic) have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.” The post also referenced “hordes of minorities” flooding Western countries, a popular antisemitic conspiracy theory. IBM has stopped advertising on social media platform X after a report said its ads were appearing alongside material praising Adolf Hitler and Nazis — a fresh setback as the site formerly known as Twitter tries to win back big brands and their ad dollars. The U.S. tech company made the decision after a report Thursday by the liberal advocacy group Media Matters said ads from IBM, Apple, Oracle, NBCUniversal's Bravo network and Comcast were placed next to antisemitic material on X. “IBM has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination and we have immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation," the company said in a terse statement. “When it comes to this platform — X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat antisemitism and discrimination. The accounts that Media Matters found posting antisemitic material will no longer be monetizable and that the specific posts will be labeled “sensitive media," according to a statement from X on Friday.

A wide range of companies and employees were impacted, from entertainment giants to independent production companies to Hollywood talent agencies. More consolidation among the legacy media companies and independent production companies is widely expected, which often entails job cuts. Initial predictions saw the film opening at between $75 million and $80 million domestically, but those figures shrunk to a range between $60 million and $65 million ahead of Friday's opening. The latest entrant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe hauled in an estimated $47 million domestically over its debut weekend, the lowest in franchise history. Internationally, "The Marvels" garnered $63.3 million in ticket sales, bringing its global haul to $110.3 million. Still, Disney had an uphill battle drawing moviegoers to theaters for its 33rd MCU film. That is perhaps why "The Marvels" landed the second-lowest opening day for a MCU film, securing just $21.5 million on Friday.
