Two beloved songwriters, almost half a century apart in age, are set to be stars of tonight’s Grammy Awards. Joni Mitchell, who nearly died from an aneurysm several years ago, will give her first Grammys performance at the age of 80. And Taylor Swift has a shot to win her fourth album of the year award, something no other artist has done. But Swift, who has six nominations, faces tough competition. We asked three Times music critics — Jon Pareles, Jon Caramanica and Lindsay Zoladz — to share their thoughts on who might win tonight’s awards.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Freshman JuJu Watkins scored a Southern California-record 51 points — the most in NCAA women's basketball this season — and the 15th-ranked Trojans upset No. Watkins hit six 3-pointers to help the Trojans (15-4, 5-4) send the Cardinal (19-3, 8-2) to their first home loss of the season. Watkins came in averaging 25.8 points and Hall of Fame Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer turned to freshman Courtney Ogden to try stopping her. Stanford star Cameron Brink had 19 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocked shots — swatting six shots in the first half. McKenzie Forbes added X points for USC, which had lost three of four since beating UCLA on Jan. 14.

This week, while completing a press tour around New York for the FX series, “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” Demi Moore was hardly seen without her 1.5 pound dog, Pilaf, nestled in her elbow. “She is a treasure, she’s like my little extra heart.”On Monday, Moore was spotted again with her dog, Pilaf, this time in Tribeca. During the height of her influence, Paris Hilton was regularly seen with a fleet of chihuahuas in tow. Wearing a Versace lace tailored blazer dress, Moore held Pilaf like a tiny fluffy clutch bag. Dear listeners,Some people swear there’s a curse that comes with winning the Grammy for best new artist, but it’s difficult to believe that when you remember who has actually taken home the trophy. Toggle the winners list back another decade and you’ll see some established industry power players like John Legend (best new artist 2006), Carrie Underwood (2007) and Adele (2009). The Grammys even got it right as far back as 1965, when the award went to a group of worthy Liverpudlian newcomers called the Beatles. Today’s playlist is an introduction to the eight artists who stand a chance to join their ranks at this Sunday’s Grammys. Personally, I’d be happy to see the 34-year-old mom take home best new artist; I love when someone who’s been toiling in semi-obscurity for years finally gets her moment in the spotlight.

There's an ideological gap widening between Gen Z's young men and women. Half of young men also believe they face some kind of discrimination, and less than half identify as feminists. Sharing the data, journalist and lawyer Imani Gandy commented on the pattern, saying: "YouTube algorithms are turning young men into sociopaths." "Women are going to rise up and women are going to take over everything and feminism is awful and women hate us," Stein said. "If you're being rewarded by the algorithm and by the platform you're creating on, you're going to probably keep doing it," she said.

The current NHL players have been instructed to surrender to authorities in connection with the allegations, London police have said. A cascade of developments followed, including June 2022 parliamentary hearings over Hockey Canada’s handling of the case, and July 2022 announcements that London police and Hockey Canada would reopen their investigations. Investigators are scheduled to address the London police investigation and pending charges in a news conference scheduled for Monday. In July 2022, Hockey Canada published a letter apologizing for it said was inadequate action regarding the assault allegations, and said it was reopening an internal investigation.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has made it clear the U.S. will strike back after a deadly drone attack killed three service members and wounded more than 40 at a small base in Jordan over the weekend. On Tuesday, Biden bluntly said “yes” when asked if he'd decided how to respond to the attack. Target options range from inside Iran, including on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, to Iranian ships at sea and Tehran-backed militia groups and key militant leaders in Iraq and Syria. HIT MILITIA GROUPS AGAINThe most likely move would be to hit Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Syria again. Hawkish Congress members said Biden should directly target Tehran for the deadly attack on the base in Jordan.

Nine years ago, Joni Mitchell fans wondered if they might ever hear her perform again, after Mitchell — the Canadian singer-songwriter and icon of the folk movement — had an aneurysm that initially left her unable to speak. But in recent years she has made a gradual recovery, and in 2022 she surprised the music world with a performance at the Newport Folk Festival. And on Sunday, at age 80, Mitchell is set to perform at the Grammy Awards for the first time. Show organizers offered no details about her appearance, including whether she is expected to play solo or with guests. “To hear Mitchell hit certain notes again in that inimitable voice was like glimpsing, in the wild, a magnificent bird long feared to have gone extinct.”

Gibson , a clinical psychologist specializing in emotionally immature parents , told Business Insider that one of the biggest challenges of breaking the cycle of abuse is taking your childhood pain seriously. She shared some of the common stages her clients go through, and why breaking the cycle is worth all the time, work, and effort it takes. She's had clients come into sessions where they told their parents how they really felt, without preparing beforehand. Once you get used to noticing how you feel and start demanding better for yourself, it will dramatically alter how you interact with people.

CNN —Iga Świątek’s bid for a fifth grand slam title came to a shock end on Saturday as she was defeated by 19-year-old Czech star Linda Nosková in the third round at the Australian Open. Poland’s Świątek looked in control of the third-round contest when it was on serve at 4-3 in the second set, but Nosková, ranked No. Her victory also means that there is only one former grand slam champion in the top half of the women’s draw at this year’s tournament, Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka. After starting the year with a run to the semifinals of the Brisbane International, Nosková defeated compatriot Marie Bouzková and American McCartney Kessler in the first two rounds at Melbourne Park. Against Świątek, she hit 10 aces, including a crucial one in the final game of the match, and 35 winners.

Now that she’s released the deluxe edition — in honor of her 78th birthday, on Friday! — Dolly Parton’s already sprawling double album “Rockstar” runs nearly three hours long and clocks in at an indefatigably rockin’ 39 tracks. “I know the game, you’ll forget my name,” she sings, with a slight ache in her voice. “And I won’t be here in another year, if I don’t stay on the charts.” Given that “Rockstar” became the highest-charting album of Parton’s career just a few months ago, that fate seems, blessedly, unlikely. Sleater-Kinney’s 10 (or Actually 11) Best Songs

Dear listeners,I first heard the band Sleater-Kinney when I was a teenager, and it’s not an exaggeration to say it changed my life. The drummer, Janet Weiss, played harder than pretty much anyone I’d ever seen, of any gender, and she sometimes wore pigtails. I still believe that Sleater-Kinney’s two-decade, eight-album stretch from 1995 to 2015 ranks among the strongest runs ever by an American band. But its last three albums, released since Weiss left the group, have largely left me cold. But I’d be lying, or blindly stanning, if I said I rank this new album with the band’s best work.
