The Mary Rose was one of the largest warships of the Tudor navy during King Henry VIII’s reign until it sank on July 19, 1545, during a battle against the French. The Mary Rose was one of them, and the flagship became the king’s favorite. The hull of the Mary Rose, supported by a steel cradle attached to a lifting frame, was raised on October 11, 1982. The research team used Raman spectroscopy, a nondestructive method that preserves valuable samples, to study the bones, Shankland said. “Investigating the impact of this on the spine would further our understanding of bone chemistry changes with age, but also with stress from activity.”

A graduate student analyzing publicly available drone data in Mexico unexpectedly stumbled across a huge ancient Mayan city buried beneath dense jungle. For centuries, the city lay hidden amid jungle canopy in the state of Campeche, on the Gulf of Mexico. New research published Tuesday in the journal Antiquity reveals sites that in total cover area about one-and-a-half times the size of Washington, D.C. The data, gathered by a research group studying land-use patterns, came to light using modern drone mapping technology known as LiDAR — light detection and ranging equipment. LiDAR maps are used by a wide range of researchers to collect data for archeological and nonarchaeological purposes, but Auld-Thomas took the data and analyzed the maps with methods used by archaeologists.

That diary is now believed to be the only known primary source documenting the involvement of Chinese naval officers in the D-Day landings at Normandy. The 24 British-trained Chinese naval officers were forced to choose between the two sides, with many of them going on to have distinguished careers in the Chinese or Taiwanese militaries. Instead he settled down in Hong Kong, a British colony at the time, where he worked as a merchant seaman until the late 1960s. Mark Cuban says he hates golf. On Friday's episode of ABC's "Shark Tank," he offered $1 million to a company selling portable golf courses anyway. The San Francisco-based company BucketGolf, run by brother-and-sister duo Tyler and Jenny Simmons, sells a game that resembles golf, with foldable buckets as holes that can be placed wherever the players choose. The company was on track to bring in more than $12 million in 2024 sales at the time of the episode's taping, said Tyler Simmons, the company's CEO and founder — up from $5.9 million in 2023 and $2.5 million in 2022. BucketGolf could also benefit from a Shark's mentorship on matters of logistics, Tyler Simmons said: "We have yet to make it through a busy season without running out of some of our best products."
