Related storiesThe idea of a universal basic income has been around for awhile, but rose to prominence as the center of Andrew Yang's 2016 presidential campaign. Other significant figures in the tech industry have since voiced support for some kind of basic income, including Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Earlier this year, Altman also floated another kind of basic income plan, which he called a "universal basic compute."

Biden said he would speak to the matter further later this week. His decision, made after weeks of growing pressure from members of his own party, throws Democrats into uncharted territory. Sen. Joe Manchin, an independent from West Virginia who caucuses with Democrats, called for an "open process" to select a new nominee as he called for Biden to step aside earlier on Sunday. On Sunday, immediately after Biden announced his decision to withdraw, a series of Republican politicians called on Biden to resign immediately, including Speaker Mike Johnson. "If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President," Johnson said.

NEW YORK AP —John Deere says it will no longer sponsor “social or cultural awareness” events, becoming the latest major US company to distance itself from diversity and inclusion measures after being targeted by conservative backlash. The move from the company known on Wall Street as Deere & Co. arrives just weeks after rural retailer Tractor Supply ended an array of its corporate diversity and climate efforts. Both announcements came after backlash piled up online from conservative activists opposed to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, sponsorship of LGBTQ+ Pride events and climate advocacy. “If it’s so polarizing that people just abandon it, then we all lost.”Legal attacks against companies’ diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have also drawn more attention following the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling to end affirmative action in college admissions. That doesn’t mean companies will stop their DEI efforts entirely, she added, but they may have to change language or find new workarounds.

United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle speaks during a press conference at the Secret Service's Chicago Field Office on June 4 2024 in Chicago, Illinois, ahead of the 2024 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. A U.S. Secret Service official on Wednesday said that a local Pennsylvania police SWAT team was actually in another building than the one whose roof was used by a would-be assassin to shoot at former President Donald Trump on Saturday. The Secret Service official's new account contradicts a prior claim by Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle that the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Crooks, was on top of the building containing the SWAT team near Trump's campaign rally in the town of Butler. Also Wednesday, a source familiar with the shooting probe told NBC that local police saw Crooks with a range finder, which is used to measure shooting distances, and that they had informed the Secret Service they were looking for Crooks with that device before Trump took the stage at the rally. The new disclosures come a day after news that the Secret Service before Saturday's shooting boosted security for Trump when it was told of a plot to kill him by Iran's government.

But climate change is already having negative and broad impacts on household finances, according to experts. "There are a bazillion pathways" to adverse financial impact, he added. Essexella fossils are composed of two structures — a textured, barrel-shaped region and a smooth bulb. “It looked like the bottom of an anemone,” Dr. Plotnick said.
