Iran-backed Houthi rebels hijacked an internationally flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea on Sunday. AdvertisementA new video shared by the Houthi rebel group captures the Iran-backed militants conducting a dramatic helicopter raid of an internationally flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea and hijacking the vessel, taking its entire crew hostage. The spokesperson suggested to countries with citizens working in the Red Sea that they should avoid association with Israel-affiliated ships. Publicly available shipping data from as recent as Saturday shows the vessel was halfway through its south-bound transit of the Red Sea. Adding to their list of provocations, Houthi militants in early November even shot down a US military MQ-9 Reaper drone off the coast of Yemen.

The launch had been scheduled for Friday but was pushed back by a day for a last-minute swap of flight-control hardware. SpaceX is aiming to at least exceed Starship-Super Heavy's performance during its April 20 test flight, when the two-stage spacecraft blew itself to bits less than four minutes into a planned 90-minute flight. SpaceX has since reinforced the launch pad with a massive water-cooled steel plate, one of dozens of corrective actions that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration required before granting a launch license on Wednesday for the second test flight.

CNN —An ultramarathon runner has been banned for 12 months after using a car during part of a 50-mile race, UK Athletics (UKA) announced. Joasia Zakrzewski was competing in the GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool race in northwest England on April 7 when she accepted a ride in a friend’s car and ended up placing third. The panel ruled that Zakrzewski would be banned from competing in any event that falls under UK Athletics jurisdiction, or from representing Great Britain, for 12 months. “I would never purposefully cheat and this was not a target race, but I don’t want to make excuses,” she said. Zakrzewski, a doctor who has competed internationally for Scotland and Great Britain, is able to appeal the decision.

BANGKOK (AP) — Asian shares have retreated after Wall Street added a bit more to its big rally from a day before, while U.S. futures and oil prices were lower. Biden and Xi emerged from their first face-to-face meeting in a year vowing to stabilize the fraught relationship between the world's two biggest economies. Target helped lead the market with a 17.8% jump after it reported much stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. Prices at the wholesale level were 1.3% higher in October than a year earlier, and they surprisingly fell from September’s levels. That breathed more life into hopes that inflation is indeed cooling enough for the Fed to halt its barrage of rate hikes.

With November about halfway through, the S&P 500 is up more than 7% for the month, while the Dow has advanced nearly 6%. Firefighters work to put out a fire at energy infrastructure facilities damaged by Russian missile strike, as Russia's attack on Ukraine continues, in Kyiv region, Ukraine. The daily-fantasy-sports company, which European gambling giant Flutter Entertainment had acquired, was racing to introduce its "same-game parlay" to the US. The same-game parlay, a phrase FanDuel coined, has since caught fire, meshing well with the high-scoring, stat-driven, athlete-personality focus of US sports — and propelled FanDuel to the forefront of the betting market. "The same-game parlay was the right product in the right market at exactly the right time." Every sports-betting operator, from DraftKings to newcomer Fanatics, now has or is building its version of the same-game parlay. After the NBA resumed play in July 2020, the same-game parlay grew from 5% to 10% of FanDuel's bets, Farren said.
