Providing ExemptionsAnother key issue addressed by FinCEN’s rule relates to which companies will have to submit beneficial ownership information. Lawmakers reasoned that ownership information for such companies already would be readily available, but the large carve-outs have sparked questions from some quarters. They will be given 30 days to report beneficial ownership information. The road aheadFinCEN’s work establishing the beneficial ownership database is far from done. The beneficial ownership law requires companies to certify their reports are accurate and imposes penalties for people who willfully provide false information.
CNN —Although the new “Hellraiser” is billed as “reimagining” Clive Barker’s 1987 horror film, it’s not like the title ever went away, raising six direct-to-video productions (the last one in 2018) after the four theatrical movies. It also fits Hulu’s strategy of premiering movies culled from well-known franchises, with “Prey” – from the “Predator” universe – among the recent examples. For those just seeking another fix of Pinhead and the Cenobites, that’s probably enough to get the job done. But once “Hellraiser” has made that, er, point, the movie feels more like a snack – or ‘bite – than a meal. “Hellraiser” premieres October 7 on Hulu.

BERLIN, Oct 4 (Reuters) - British electronic music pioneers Depeche Mode announced a new album and world tour on Tuesday, their first since the death of founding member Andrew Fletcher this year. We've got all of the tracks finished kind of for the album without them being mixed," Gore said. "All of the songs and even the album title was kind of decided before Andy passed. The band will kick off a world tour to support the album's spring release, in March. They released their last studio album, "Spirit", in 2017.
Desperate to replace “The Walking Dead,” AMC might have completed an improbable baton pass from zombies to another kind of undead. In that sense, this seems to have been produced at least as much with AMC+ in mind as the linear network AMC. Sam Reid as Lestat Du Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis De Pointe Du Lac in "Interview with the Vampire." “Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire” premieres October 2 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC and AMC+.
By historical standards, Gen X should be in charge of the US by now. Think of them as the godparents of the "Xennials" — those born in the late 1970s or early 1980s who aren't fully Gen X or millennial. No matter whether you deny the 61-year-old Obama is a boomer, Gen X is starting to get up there in age. Michael Ciaglo-Pool/Getty ImagesWhat's the US missing without a Gen X president? "It's like seeing a ghost that doesn't appear," she said of any expectation the presidency would just suddenly open up for Gen X.
A Gore-Kerry Political Climate Hit
  + stars: | 2022-09-26 | by ( The Editorial Board | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
When Al Gore , John Kerry and the New York Times gang up on someone, you know a political hit is on. That’s what happened last week to World Bank President David Malpass , for the sin of not turning the international lending institution into an arm of Democratic Party policy on climate change. Mr. Gore started the pile-on by claiming that Mr. Malpass is a “climate denier.” For today’s political left, that charge is an undefined, all-purpose smear intended to banish you from polite company. Mr. Kerry last week also repeated his claim that the bank isn’t doing enough to combat climate change, which really means the bank isn’t taking dictation from him.
On the agenda today:But first: This week, Insider launched its inaugural Climate Action 30, a prestigious list of leaders working toward climate solutions. Lily Katzman, an associate editor on our Special Projects team, gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the project. InsiderWhen we say climate heroes, the usual suspects — think Greta Thunberg and Al Gore — come to mind. That's where Insider's Climate Action 30 comes into play. ReutersDavid Solomon, Goldman Sachs' CEO, moonlights as an electronic-music DJ, playing high-profile gigs like the Lollapalooza music festival and Tomorrowland, a Belgian music festival.
World Bank President David Malpass responds to a question from a reporter during an opening press conference at the IMF and World Bank's 2019 Annual Fall Meetings of finance ministers and bank governors, in Washington, U.S., October 17, 2019. Asked if any shareholder had asked him to resign over the issue, Malpass said, "No, none have." The president of the United States traditionally nominates World Bank presidents, subject to confirmation by the bank's board. Treasury declined comment when asked if it supported a second term for Malpass when his term ends in 2024. Activists and former climate advocates worry the World Bank is falling short on climate action.

A coalition of civil society groups on Wednesday called for the World Bank to fire Malpass. "We have – and will continue – to make that expectation clear to World Bank leadership. Selwin Hart, special adviser to the UN secretary-general on climate action, had also criticized the World Bank at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow last year. Large banks, especially the World Bank, "cannot continue to fiddle while the developing world burns," he said.
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore speaks at a news conference during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), in Glasgow, Scotland, Britain, November 5, 2021. "There is no such thing as a clean fossil fuel, just as there is no such thing as a healthy cigarette," Gore stated. "We don't want to see investments in fossil fuel infrastructure of the sort that A/ will not alleviate the short-term problem and B/ will guarantee higher emission levels for decades to come." "Mother Nature has joined the discussion about the climate crisis," Gore said, citing heatwaves in China, floods in Pakistan and drought in Europe. Gore, U.S. vice president from 1993 to 2001, became known for climate change advocacy with his 2006 Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", and its 2017 sequel, arguing the climate change struggle is a moral fight.

Willi Castro hit a two-run homer and Javier Baez had a solo shot for the Tigers. Rays 5, Rangers 3Christian Bethancourt and Jose Siri hit back-to-back homers in host Tampa Bay's win over Texas. The duo went deep in the second inning for a 2-1 lead that the Rays never relinquished.
A viral dance trend on TikTok that’s caught on with everyone from “RushTok” pledges to Jimmy Fallon is based on an unexpected beat — the song “Kala Chashma,” which started in a small Punjab village and made its way to Bollywood. It’s followed by a turntable scratch and several components of contemporary sound effects used in Western music and electric dance music before the autotuned lyrics begin. “I knew if she was in our village, everyone would stop and admire her beauty.”Beaster-Jones said Shera’s inspiration for “Kala Chashma” is common for Punjabi songs. Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif in "Baar Baar Dekho." But the one thing we always had was ‘Kala Chashma,’” Zaria Parvez, an online content creator, said in a TikTok.
CNN —Although “inspired by true events,” “The Woman King” clearly isn’t tethered to them, using the underlying story of 19th-century female warriors in an African kingdom as the jumping-off point for a rousing action vehicle, augmented by plenty of melodrama. It’s an egalitarian streak within a society where the king (John Boyega) still possesses a sprawling harem. Nanisca worries that her warriors “do not know an evil is coming,” a tease for the pending battle against the Oyo. If the finish is a bit too busy to be as rousing as intended, by then, “The Woman King” has made the most of its formidable arsenal. “The Woman King” premieres September 16 in US theaters.
One former Majorel advisor estimated that 1,400 content moderators work just on the firm's TikTok contract across Morocco. While targets and goals varied between teams, six moderators told Insider that their goals were difficult to meet. A spokesperson for Majorel told Insider these targets were guidance and not individual targets. While Majorel told Insider that moderators have access to harm-mitigation tools, such as grayscale features, all of the moderators Insider spoke with said they didn't have access to any such feature. Five other Majorel moderators also said the company's wellness counselors weren't enough to help them with the pressures of the role.
Whether it happens, he said, is highly dependent on Republicans' success winning state legislatures during the 2022 midterm elections. But not everyone in the conservative constitutional convention movement believes such a gathering is so imminent. Constitutional convention boosters include many of Trump's current and former allies, including conservative legal scholar John Eastman, Florida Gov. In 2012, the Republican National Committee went so far as to pass a resolution formally opposing the convention movement. A convention of states would be the first of its kind since the original Constitutional convention in Philadelphia in 1787.

So how are politicians spending election night in the time of coronavirus? Others will be drinking beer and flipping channels between old movies and election results. That announcement helped kickstart a 36-day saga that finally ended with Bush winning the presidential election. There, she's having an election night party that's being live-streamed. "It's the ultimate easy comfort food for an election night that will be filled with a lot of anxiety early on, and hopefully a lot of joy later on."

‘The Sixth Extinction,’ by Elizabeth Kolbert

There are psychological barriers to even imagining that what we love so much could be lost — could be destroyed forever. If trends continue, the global temperature will keep rising, triggering “world-altering events,” Kolbert writes. “By disrupting these systems,” Kolbert writes, “we’re putting our own survival in danger.”The earth’s water cycle is being dangerously disturbed, as warmer oceans evaporate more water vapor into the air. The extra heat is also absorbed in the top layer of the seas, which makes ocean-based storms more destructive. They struggle to absorb excess heat and carbon pollution — which is why, as Kolbert points out, coral reefs might be the first entire ecosystem to go extinct in the modern era.
