A California mother has been charged with child endangerment after her 3-year-old son died of a fentanyl overdose earlier this year, police say. Jennifer Mae Niemann, 30, was the primary caregiver of the boy and was present when her child died on May 4, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said Thursday. Police received a call at 10:15 p.m. local time about an unresponsive 3-year-old boy who was turning blue and not breathing at a home in the 1600 block of Mill Street in San Luis Obispo. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital but never regained consciousness and was pronounced deceased that evening. On Monday, San Luis Obispo Police detectives went to San Diego to attempt to locate Niemann, who they described as transient, and she was located Tuesday and taken into custody.

Dallas police on Monday shared a timeline of the Saturday shooting at Methodist Dallas Medical Center that killed two staffers, identified as Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, and Katie Flowers, 63. The suspect, Nestor Hernandez, 30, was charged with capital murder in the shooting. When hospital employee Jaqueline Pokuaa, 45, entered the room to provide “routine services” to the patient, Hernandez shot her once. ATHERTON, Calif. — Three decades after a car was reported stolen in Northern California, police are digging the missing convertible out of the yard of a $15 million mansion built by a man with a history of arrests for murder, attempted murder and insurance fraud. Although cadaver dogs alerted to possible human remains on Thursday, none had been found more than 24 hours after technicians with the San Mateo County Crime Lab began excavating the car, DeGolia said. The car was reported stolen in September 1992 in nearby Palo Alto, he said. Cadaver dogs were again brought back to the house and again “made a slight notification of possible human remains,” DeGolia said. Daniel Larsen said the dogs could be reacting to human remains, old bones, blood, vomit, or a combination of those things.
