"When we looked at the risks of the IPO, which is a number one risk in my opinion? He was referring to company risk factors, which are a common element of IPO prospectus filings. Prosecutor Ute Lindemann argued that he should be convicted of two counts of rape and two of sexual abuse, and should be kept in preventive detention after he has served a 15-year sentence, German news agency dpa reported. The suspect hasn’t been charged in the McCann case, in which he is under investigation on suspicion of murder. He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for a rape he committed in Portugal in 2005. There are no formal pleas in the German legal system and there is no obligation for defendants to respond. In July, the court lifted an arrest warrant in the cases at stake in the current trial, citing a lack of “urgent suspicion” against the defendant.

Amazon's return-to-office mandate is a move to cut head count, says Stanford economist Nicholas Bloom. AdvertisementAmazon's strict return-to-office push is an attempt to reduce head count, according to Stanford economist Nicholas Bloom. Amazon's strict stance on full-time office work is still somewhat of an anomaly within the tech industry. Cost-cutting moveIn the memo announcing the RTO policy, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy hinted at plans to reduce managers. "They clearly thought about this long and hard and presumably calculated it was more cost-effective to run a head count reduction via an RTO than active layoffs.

Euro zone inflation fell to 1.8% in September, coming in below the European Central Bank's 2% target, flash data from statistics agency Eurostat showed Tuesday. The reading was in line with the expectations of economists polled by Reuters, after annual inflation hit a three-year-low of 2.2% in August. The core inflation rate, which excludes more volatile energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices, came in at 2.7%. The figures come after September inflation eased below the 2% European Central Bank target in several key euro zone economies, including France and Germany. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde on Monday said that policymakers were becoming more confident about inflation returning to the 2% target.

LONDON — European stocks are expected to kick off October trading in positive territory after ending September on a somber note. The upbeat start to October comes after European stocks closed lower on Monday, with almost all sectors and major bourses in negative territory. Investor focus on Tuesday will be centered on preliminary inflation data from the euro zone for September. Preliminary harmonized German inflation data released on Monday showed the country's consumer price index eased to 1.8% in September, down from 2% in August. Last week, preliminary data showed the harmonized inflation rate in both France and Spain plunged below the ECB's 2% target in September.

Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and a first Champions League goal for James McAtee saw City get their first win of this year’s competition. The September harmonized CPI figure had been forecast to come in at 1.9% according to a Reuters poll. The German harmonized CPI figure was last under 2% — which is the European Central Bank's target rate for inflation — in February 2021, LSEG data indicated. For that, the still elevated core inflation rate would also need to ease notably. Within Europe, data published last week showed that the harmonized inflation rate in France and Spain fell below the 2% target in September. "The recent series of disappointing economic sentiment indicators and lower-than-expected inflation data have provided new strong arguments for ECB doves," he said.

LONDON — European stocks are expected to start the week and the final trading session of September on Monday in negative territory. The U.K.'s FTSE index is seen opening 16 points lower at 8,305, Germany's DAX 43 points lower at 19,434, France's CAC 40 down 7 points at 7,791 and Italy's FTSE MIB 1 point lower at 34,626, according to data from IG. United fell to a third league defeat in six games on Sunday, losing 3-0 at home against Tottenham amid captain Bruno Fernandes’ red card. Stellantis said it would reduce inventory levels in the United States and ship 200,000 fewer vehicles to North American dealers in the second half of 2024 than in the same period last year. Volkswagen said earlier this month that around 2 million fewer cars are being sold in Europe per year compared with pre-pandemic levels. Volkswagen itself is selling 500,000 fewer cars annually in the region, the equivalent of around two car plants. “To remain competitively viable, we have to comprehensively restructure Volkswagen… because the situation is serious,” the company said last week. “Volkswagen has to increase efficiency and reduce costs.”For Stellantis, Monday’s profit warning is the latest piece of bad news.
