Nov 9 (Reuters) - Maxwell Frost had just been elected to represent Florida in the U.S. Congress when the 25-year-old received a call that embodied the historical moment. It was U.S. President Joe Biden, a fellow Democrat calling with congratulations on being the first person of Generation Z elected to Congress as a member of the House of Representatives. Identifying as Afro-Latino, Frost's background reflects a generation of Americans that is more racially and ethnically diverse than older age groups. Another Gen Z candidate, Republican Karoline Leavitt, lost her congressional race in New Hampshire. Gen Z voters have come of age in a world reshaped by the global pandemic that disrupted work and school culture, all while stirring economic uncertainty.

At 25, Frost is set to become the first Gen Z member of Congress. Frost, who would also be Congress' only Afro-Cuban member, beat Republican candidate Calvin Wimbish by nearly 20 points, per Decision Desk HQ. "It still hasn't fully sunken in," Frost told Insider at the time. At 25 — the minimum age to serve in the US House — Frost will be the youngest member of Congress. "You get in for one reason, and then you find out there's a lot of things that are messed up," he told Insider in May.

He said that even before the debt ceiling, Congress needs to pass a continuing resolution in December to temporarily fund the government.

PARIS, Oct 31 (Reuters) - World wine production in 2022 is expected to dip slightly below last year's level, with a better than anticipated volume in drought-hit Europe mostly offsetting a forecast drop in southern hemisphere output, an intergovernmental wine body said. In initial projections this year, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) pegged world production at between 257.5 million and 262.3 million hectolitres (mhl), with a mid‑range estimate at 259.9 mhl. That would be around 1% lower compared with an estimated 2021 volume of 262 mhl and below the average of the past 20 years, the OIV said in a note. "Overall, in 2022 the dry and hot conditions observed across different regions of the world have led to early harvests and average volumes," it said. The OIV cautioned that it did not have 2022 data for China and Russia, but anticipated a structural decline in Chinese production would continue.

Due to the cold air mass plunging south before expanding east, southern cities actually woke up colder than northern cities. New York City's Central Park dipped to 42 degrees, the coldest temperature since April 29, and Charlotte's 30-degree reading set its fifth earliest freeze on record. For many locations, the early season snow was also record-setting. While not record-setting, add Chicago to the list of places that recorded the first measurable snow of the season this week. This cold snap will be short-lived, with temperatures expected to rebound beginning Friday and lasting into next week.

Crop Watch producers have been evaluating yield potential for their corn and soy fields on a weekly basis since early July. CORNThe third and fourth harvested Crop Watch corn fields, Indiana and southeastern Illinois, were both completed on Sunday, and the results diverged. Indiana was among the driest Crop Watch locations this summer, but soil moisture was high at the start of the season, delaying planting.
