CNN —House Republicans voted on Thursday to block a Democrat-led effort to release a long-awaited Ethics Committee report on allegations against former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida. The House took a step to effectively shut down a resolution from Democrats that would have required the public release of the report. Last month, before Gaetz withdrew, Republicans on the House Ethics Committee voted behind closed doors – and against the will of Democrats on the panel – not to release the results of the investigation at that time. After the vote, Johnson called the ethics report a “moot point” given that Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress. After the first vote, the House voted on a second, similar Democrat-led resolution seeking to compel the release of the report.

Though industry sources say they aren’t overly concerned about DOGE’s ability to claw back federal loan guarantees, Ramaswamy’s decision to single out the Rivian loan struck some as concerning. But they may face resistance, particularly when it comes to clean energy money included in the IRA. Even though no Republicans voted for the bill, close to 80% of announced clean energy investments are in Republican districts. “It’s a much more targeted and much more urgent effort,” said one clean energy industry insider. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and nominated his ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Choi Byung-hyuk, as new defense minister, Yonhap news reported on Thursday. Kim has been reported as having advised Yoon to declare martial law on Tuesday, which was lifted after a parliament vote demanding Yoon reverse it. Parliament introduced a motion early on Thursday to impeach him over the botched attempt to impose martial law, but his party vowed to oppose the move, throwing the process into doubt. The main opposition Democratic Party has called Yoon's martial law attempt a treasonous act, and its lawmakers could lead a vote for the bill as early as Friday. U.S. officials said they were caught completely off guard by Yoon's martial law declaration, which Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said was "badly misjudged."

The excerpt is from a chapter about activist hedge fund Starboard Value, founded by Jeff Smith. Another Nvidia executive said Starboard wanted a board seat, but the board had pushed back. In November 2013, Nvidia made two announcements: a commitment to buy back $1 billion of stock by fiscal 2015 and the authorization of an additional $1 billion stock buyback. Far from a contentious relationship, Nvidia and Starboard seemed to work well together in this brief period. Days later, Nvidia and Mellanox made the deal public and held a conference call with analysts and investors.

Biden’s senior aides inside the White House have been deliberating for weeks about the possibility of issuing preemptive pardons, according to the sources familiar with the discussions. One former senior White House official said aides inside the White House and across various federal agencies are intensely worried about the possibility that the incoming Trump administration will prosecute anyone deemed as having antagonized the president-elect. “Why not do it?”A White House spokesperson declined to comment. The former White House official who spoke to CNN, who is intimately familiar with the workings of the White House counsel’s office, said it would be typical for Siskel and his team to first put together a detailed memo to be presented to Biden. “It’s just such a different use of the pardon power,” said Neil Eggleston, former White House counsel to President Barack Obama.

NASA chief Bill Nelson announced on Thursday new delays in the U.S. space agency's Artemis program to return astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972, pushing back the next two planned missions including the planned lunar landing. Nelson told a news conference that the next Artemis mission, sending astronauts around the moon and back, has slipped to April 2026, with the subsequent moon landing mission pushed to 2027. The Artemis program has made noteworthy progress but also has experienced various delays and rising costs. NASA is using SpaceX, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and other contractors in the Artemis program. In his decision, Judge Reed O'Connor expressed doubts about Boeing's and the government's ability to select the monitor solely based on capability without consideration of race. "We anticipate a significant renegotiation of the plea deal that incorporates terms truly commensurate with the gravity of Boeing's crimes," she added.

Mercedes-Benz has supplied the Vatican with popemobiles for decades — and for the first time, the Pope will ride an all-electric version. "It is a great honor for us to be able to present this special vehicle to Pope Francis today." The vehicle's electric drivetrain was made to accommodate slow rides at public appearances. While Mercedes-Benz has been the standard manufacturer for years, the Pope ditched his typical popemobile for a Hyundai in 2015. He also previously approved plans for a new electric popemobile made by Fisker, but it's not clear if that was ever delivered and the EV company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
