CNN —Haiti swore in a new prime minister on Monday after a Spirit Airlines plane was hit by gunfire over the country’s capital Port-au-Prince, according to a diplomatic source in the country. All flights to Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport have been suspended until Nov. 18, according to Haiti’s civil aviation authority. It added that the aircraft has been taken out of service, and Spirit services to Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien have been suspended. Following protests in September about the city’s housing market, thousands of people living in the Portuguese capital have signed a petition demanding a clampdown on Lisbon vacation rentals. The group behind the petition, the Referendum Movement for Housing (MRH), is seeking to eradicate the almost 20,000 short term vacation rentals in Lisbon residential blocks, hoping to free up housing opportunities for locals. CNN Travel has reached out to Airbnb for comment about the Lisbon referendum petition. Changing the Lisbon tourist industryFreitas stresses a successful referendum wouldn’t eliminate Lisbon tourist lets altogether, but prevent them from “existing in houses registered for residential use.” Landlords would also be prohibited from establishing new vacation rentals in residential buildings in the future.

Washington CNN —The Israeli government has failed to meet criteria set out by the US to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, a group of eight humanitarian aid organizations said in a joint “scorecard” released Tuesday. “Israel not only failed to meet the U.S. criteria that would indicate support to the humanitarian response, but concurrently took actions that dramatically worsened the situation on the ground, particularly in northern Gaza,” the organizations said. Section 620i of the US Foreign Assistance Act requires the US to halt security assistance to governments who restrict US humanitarian aid. “Israeli forces repeatedly attacked humanitarian sites and frontline responders during the 30-day period,” the scorecard said. The humanitarian scorecard noted that “the effectiveness of international diplomatic efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza hinges on the willingness of the United States and other countries to push Israel to comply with these priorities.”

More than one-third of college students today suffer from moderate to severe anxiety and depressive symptoms, according to the 2023-204 Health Minds Study, and it’s good that many are getting help. About 1 in 5 college students, or 22%, report taking prescription antidepressants within the preceding year, the study found, and about 1 in 3 students, or 36%, has received professional counseling. Drinking alcohol, which ultimately depletes these chemicals, therefore creates more work to improve your mental health, which is the primary reason not to drink while taking antidepressants. No doctor, including me, is ever going to recommend drinking alcohol while taking antidepressants.

CNN —Although sales of tobacco products have been restricted in hundreds of municipalities across the US, a new study is highlighting some loopholes that allow children to bypass online regulations to buy e-cigarettes. Though the sales of flavored tobacco products have been restricted in eight states and in nearly 400 cities or counties, these regulations don’t completely cover e-commerce or online shopping. “People will not tell the truth when they enter their age, and it’s remarkably easy for kids to get tobacco products mailed to them. More than 1 in 4 underage people report using e-cigarettes daily, and most youth who use e-cigarettes favor flavored products. “Prohibiting tobacco sales completely, or states putting some more restrictions on how the products are delivered to people, can help make e-cigarettes harder to purchase,” he said.

One of the 43 monkeys that escaped from a South Carolina research facility Wednesday night has been "successfully recovered unharmed," officials said Saturday. As of Thursday night, the monkeys had been located in the wooded region surrounding the Alpha Genesis facility, in a rural area on the edge of Yamassee. Police emphasized Saturday there is not a current threat to public health, citing the research facility. Staff members at Alpha Genesis were working to entice them with food as well. Police urged the public to stay away from the area surrounding Alpha Genesis as the monkeys can be easily startled.
