Georgia is rich in EV money and jobs
  + stars: | 2024-09-18 | by ( John Towfighi | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +6 min
Since 2022, the Peach State has added over 30,000 clean energy jobs, more than any other state, according to a June study by Climate Power, a strategic communications firm. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated over $175 million toward the EV battery supply chain in Georgia and $135 million over five years toward infrastructure for EV charging stations in Georgia. Investments in EV and battery manufacturing will boost job growth and output in both of these sectors, Benson said. Strong population growth remains a tailwind for Georgia's economic growth and EV industry, Benson said. Between 2021 and 2022, there were 327,795 people who moved into Georgia, according to data from the Census Bureau.

Analysts say don't chase this Intel pop here
  + stars: | 2024-09-17 | by ( Lisa Kailai Han | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Wall Street analysts are still skeptical on Intel despite its latest moves aimed at righting the ship. Shares of Intel gained more than 3% on Tuesday after the chipmaker said it would turn its foundry business into an independent unit — allowing it to raise outside capital . The analyst added that Intel's plan to establish its foundry business as an independent subsidiary was "expected and not good." "We expect Intel's EPS to be under pressure given its foundry business, which we believe has minimal chance of succeeding," he wrote. Intel shares have lagged the broader semiconductor sector year to date, losing 56% in that time.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to start cutting interest rates Wednesday afternoon. Those yields are expected to start coming down sharply as the Fed begins to ease back on generationally high rates. Adding some duration Duration refers to a bond's price sensitivity to changes in interest rates. A bond yield moves inversely to its price, so that when bond prices rise, yields decline. Though investors in the space may be concerned about prepayment risk, especially as interest rates come down and homeowners look to refinance, Cetera says that worry may already be priced in.

While the Fed doesn’t directly set mortgage rates, its actions affect borrowing costs throughout the economy. The most apparent effect: An interest rate cut could help ease the upward pressure on mortgage rates, making one piece of the homebuying equation more affordable. Most investors are betting that the Fed will cut its benchmark interest rate by just a quarter-point on Wednesday. Some financial advisers counsel to wait until you can get a mortgage rate that is a full percentage point below the rate you’re already paying, said Fairweather. “If you got a 7.5% mortgage rate, you may already be in the money to refinance,” she said.

Faster delivery is prompting more and more people to turn to Amazon to buy paper towels and other everyday items. The growing prevalence of one- and same-day delivery has made Amazon a much more convenient to place to shop for everyday essentials. "If people buy everyday essentials on Amazon, they're more likely to buy other products too," said Jeff Marks, the Club's director of portfolio analysis. This added convenience in ordering everyday essentials from Amazon comes at a challenging time for physical retailers known for selling those same products. The company likes "to be in the consideration set for consumers" in the everyday essentials since it helps drive market share gains, Olsavsky said.
