Part of the military's mission at home is to keep stockpiles of goods like critical minerals on hand for emergency wartime use. In the dark on the stockpileAlthough the name suggests otherwise, rare earth minerals are not exactly rare — in fact, they're relatively plentiful. The Biden administration began cutting American imports of Chinese rare earth minerals a few years ago in an effort to decrease US reliance on China for critical minerals. Submarines, fighter aircraft, magnets used in missiles, radar systems, and drones all require critical earth minerals for manufacturing. AdvertisementA past report for Congress on rare earth minerals for national defense, for instance, noted that a single Virginia-class submarine requires 9,200 pounds of rare earth minerals, while an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer requires 5,200 pounds.

Morgan Stanley analysts say they are expecting the computer memory sector to hit new highs over the rest of 2024, despite investors "generally" not being comfortable buying such stocks at such lofty prices. Aside from their attractive valuations, memory stocks are expected to see a lift in demand on the back of stronger usage of artificial intelligence-powered applications, infrastructure, tools and services, the analysts added. Top pick and overweight-rated stocks SK Hynix , the South Korean chipmaker, is Morgan Stanley's "top pick." Both stocks trade on the Korean Exchange and in the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (SK Hynix has a 10.7% weight while Samsung Electronics has a 22.2% weight). CNN —The iconic puffy white suits that astronauts have donned for decades as they step outside the International Space Station are rapidly aging — but NASA is now without concrete plans to replace them. Astronauts currently wear spacesuits — called Extravehicular Activity, or EVA, suits — designed more than 40 years ago when conducting spacewalks. Collins Aerospace’s Next-Gen spacesuit, intended for use at the International Space Station, is seen during the design process. NASA plans to retire the space station sometime within the next several years. But Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has only guaranteed its participation through “at least 2028.”

It would latch onto the International Space Station — a nearly 1 million-pound structure roughly the size of a football field — and guide the craft as it plunges out of Earth’s orbit. The federal agency operates the International Space Station alongside Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, which controls a key wing of the station and propulsion modules. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency also play roles in its operations. But the space agency stipulated that it would only require that the vehicle be ready by 2029. In the news release, NASA noted that it is committed to continuing space station operations through 2030.

Amazon plans to launch a new section on its site dedicated to low-priced fashion and lifestyle items that will allow Chinese sellers to ship directly to U.S. consumers, CNBC has learned. Amazon's storefront will feature a range of unbranded items, many priced under $20, according to a presentation to Amazon sellers viewed by CNBC. In the past, Amazon sellers in China have relied on the company's fulfillment services, called Fulfillment by Amazon, to send goods to warehouses in the U.S. before they are dispatched to customers. The company pitched the arrangement as cost savings for Amazon sellers in China, and said merchants would be able to test new items through small-batch production. It is unclear when Amazon intends to debut the storefront, but the presentation notes it will start accepting products this fall.

Rival United Airlines — second to Delta in net profit margins — is circling. Delta plans to open Delta One lounges in Boston and Los Angeles later this year, and is studying airports where it could open others. Like other airlines, Delta accepted billions in federal aid to weather the pandemic. Luxury air travel and the United States didn't go together for many years — and might not still, if you ask well-heeled globetrotters. And at Delta and other airlines, many of the perks for luxury flyers come through lounges.

Amazon has many little-known nooks and crannies, including an overstock outlet. Amazon Outlet offers limited-time deals in categories, like clothes, electronics, and toys. Nvidia had some strong moves in the days after its 10-for-1 stock split traded in the market on June 10. Tuesday brought weaker-than-expected May retail sales , which the stock market took in stride, perhaps on the view that softness helps the view that the Federal Reserve will indeed cut interest rates later this year. Ultimately, the economic readings this past week signal that while U.S. growth remains resilient, things are slowing, which is an ideal setup for stock market bulls. The Fed's favorite inflation gauge and the tail end of earning season will be drivers of the market in the week ahead. Racine, Wisconsin CNN —Days after reportedly calling Milwaukee “horrible” behind closed doors, former President Donald Trump will rally with his supporters just south of the city in one of the country’s top battleground states. The Trump campaign pushed back on some of the public characterization of the alleged remark, saying he was referring to crime and “voter fraud.” As his alleged comment reverberated around the Badger State, Trump clarified to a Fox News reporter, “I love Milwaukee. Milwaukee – in addition to the state capital of Madison – is a center of Democratic power in Wisconsin and home to more voters than any other city in the state. One in five of the votes for Joe Biden en route to his narrow Wisconsin victory in 2020 were cast in Milwaukee. “In a state that’s decided on a razor’s edge, that may ultimately cost Donald Trump the election,” Johnson said.
