A wind change increased flames during a planned ignition on the Ross Moore Lake wildfire in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, on July 28, 2023. A series of climate records last year gave new meaning to the phrase "off the charts," the U.N.'s weather agency said on Tuesday, warning that the planet is now on the brink of surpassing a key warming threshold. It confirmed 2023 as the hottest year on record and said the period from 2014 to 2023 also reflected the hottest 10-year period on record. The global average temperature in 2023 stood at 1.45 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, researchers said, marginally below the key warming threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius. The 1.5 degrees Celsius level is widely recognized as an indicator of when climate impacts become increasingly harmful to people and the planet, as outlined in the landmark Paris Agreement.

Timothée Chalamet's recent films, 'Wonka' and 'Dune: Part Two,' have both surpassed the $200 million mark at the domestic box office. No film had crossed $200 million domestically since "Oppenheimer" last August. Chalamet, whose global box office total is over $2.5 billion, is proving he'll be a box-office draw for years to come. Steve Harley, the 1970s British rock star who topped U.K. music charts with the single “Make Me Smile,” died on Sunday. No cause was given but Mr. Harley had announced last month that he would step away from the stage to undergo treatment for cancer and previously canceled several concerts scheduled for this year. Mr. Harley was the frontman of the band Cockney Rebel, which he formed in the early 1970s. His biggest hit was the 1975 single “Make Me Smile,” in which Mr. Harley’s even-keeled vocals and melancholic lyrics cruise over instrumentals bearing the optimistic sound distinct to bands of the era. The song hit the top of the British charts in February of that year.

While some music critics praised Knowles' country tracks, other fans of the genre refrained from a warm welcome. Beyond just radio, Black artists and artists of color represented less than 4% of country songs played on the radio, airplay, charting songs, artists signed to major labels and award nominations, according to SongData. One such fan, Tenley Patterson, 26, said she didn't bother listening to country music before Beyoncé's releases, but was impressed with the country tracks. Rachel Whitney, head of editorial for the Nashville team, said playlists outside of the country genre are playing Knowles' country tracks, broadening its reach. The Beyoncé draw is also boosting exposure for other artists on some lists, like Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson, who have more "traditional" country songs, Whitney said.

But despite the struggles of the largest stocks in the sector, Block (SQ) appears to breaking above a key resistance level. The key with a head and shoulders pattern is to wait for the "trigger", which is when the price actually breaks through the neckline. Here we can see that the recent breakout above the neckline was preceded by a price gap higher in February. Immediately after the price gap, SQ dropped down to around $75, a level which was retested again in early March. With inverted head and shoulders breakout on the weekly chart, and clearly defined risk levels on the daily chart, Block may just be worth investors' attention.

The S & P 500 just achieved its last upside target of 5,180 a few days ago. The S & P 500 has closed above its own intra-day midpoint 80% of the time since October lows. The index's longest streak of "good closes" (closes above the mid-point) since the October lows has been nine. Consistently strong market breadth Market breadth (or internals) can be measured different ways, but simply tracking the percent of stocks advancing every day is both the simplest and most useful. From this perspective, the S & P 500 has had positive internals 70% of the trading days since the October lows.

Being that gold is priced in U.S. dollars and is very sensitive to moves in interest rates, gold is trading INVERSE to the U.S. dollar. So those macro relationships summed up; Stocks and gold are trading together Stocks and gold are trading inverse to the direction of interest rates and the U.S. dollar. Breaking down the gold chart Turning to the technicals of the gold market, I have some concerning analysis for stock market bulls, myself included. If the gold market does not break out above the highlighted $2356 level we may be setting up for a failure. The United States previously offered a $6 million reward for information about Mr. al-Awlaki, and $5 million for tips about Mr. Batarfi. The reverse has happened for small businesses," the firm's tech sector lead told CNBC's " Fast Money ." But ultimately, I think, the value created is so great for these small businesses, it's hard to turn down the facts," said Thill. "I'd be buying this stock on this weakness," Thill said.

CNN —For more than two weeks, a cyberattack has disrupted business at health care providers across the United States, forcing small clinics to scramble to stay in business and exposing the fragility of the billing system that underpins American health care. It prevented some insurance payments on prescription drugs from processing, leaving many care providers effectively footing the bill without reimbursement. Health care groups have pleaded with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to offer medical practices a financial lifeline. A week ago, Change Healthcare announced plans for a temporary loan program to get money flowing to health care providers affected by the outage. Tyler Mason, a spokesperson for Change Healthcare, declined to comment when asked if the company had paid off the hackers.

New York CNN —Wall Street was taken aback by the US labor market’s resilience in January. Another unexpectedly hot report could shake things up again. The January jobs report showed that the US economy added a stunning 353,000 jobs that month and the unemployment rate stayed at 3.7%. The new EU regulations force sweeping changes on some of the world’s most widely used tech products, including Apple’s app store, Google search and messaging platforms, including Meta’s WhatsApp. The broad obligations apply only to the EU, which could leave tech users in the United States and other markets looking longingly at some of the features Big Tech is rolling out in response to the European directive.

The performance of the once-dominant Magnificent 7 stocks has certainly shifted in the first quarter, with charts like Apple (AAPL) beginning to diverge from the rest of the mega-cap growth leadership names. But is the recent decline for AAPL just the beginning? Since a strong rally in the first half of 2023, Apple has essentially been in a basing pattern. The RSI has moved into the oversold range as well, which tells me to expect at least some sort of bounce off this well-established level of price support. BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

CNN —Last month was the planet’s hottest February on record, marking the ninth month in a row that global records tumbled, according to new data from Copernicus, the European Union’s climate monitoring service. It’s yet another grim climate change milestone, as the long-term impacts of human-caused global warming are given a boost by El Niño, a natural climate fluctuation. Global temperatures in the first half of the month in particular were “exceptionally high,” according to the analysis. “At times, the records have been broken by margins that are virtually statistically impossible,” McNoldy told CNN. The Copernicus data “tells a familiar story of warming temperatures and shifting patterns of weather,” said Hannah Cloke, a climate scientist and professor at the University of Reading in the UK.

This prompted us to investigate the group further, which revealed that various stocks are sporting constructive technical formations. Restaurant stocks charts showing strength McDonalds (MCD) has had a wild ride over the last 10 months and now sits at the same price level that it was trading at last April — eleven months ago. MCD isn't the only restaurant stock that's sporting an attractive technical pattern. On the weekly chart, Restaurant Brands International (QSR) looks very similar to MCD, having formed its own inverse-head-and-shoulders formation over the last year. While this is no indication of what could happen now to MCD, YUM and QSR, it shows how breaking through multi-year resistance can attract momentum.
