The $2.1 million electric supercar Rimac Nevera has 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque. But the Rimac Nevera taught me there's still a lot of that to be done on Earth. Alanis KingThe Nevera is a $2.1 million electric supercar from Rimac, a Croatian carmaker founded in 2009 by the now 34-year-old Mate Rimac. Rimac AutomobiliThe Nevera has four electric motors — one for each wheel — that, combined, make 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque. "The car will step out a little," they said, referring to the slide a car's wheels do when they begin to lose traction.
Mercedes-Benz will offer a $1,200-per-year "acceleration Increase" feature for some electric cars. Customers who pay the fee will unlock between 20% and 24% more power output from their electric Mercedes. The upgrade will also boost torque and shave up to one second off of a vehicle's zero-to-60-mph time, Mercedes says. Three-quarters of consumers aren't willing to pay a subscription fee for most car features, according to an April survey from Cox Automotive. Have a story about car subscription features that you'd like to share?
Car companies expect to make billions charging customers recurring fees for vehicle features. As vehicles become increasingly connected to the internet, car companies aim to rake in billions by having customers pay monthly or annual subscriptions to access certain features. But car companies still haven't figured out exactly what customers are willing to pay for, and what feels like a frustrating upcharge. An April study by Cox Automotive found that 75% of consumers are not willing to subscribe to most vehicle features. Hackers have helped car owners upgrade their vehicles for years, and subscription features could be their next target, Vice reported.
SEOUL, Nov 21 (Reuters) - In an upscale Seoul neighbourhood two years ago, a white Tesla Model X smashed into a parking lot wall. The criminal trial about to begin in South Korea hangs on questions about the safety of Tesla cars, at a time when the EV maker faces a range of lawsuits and increased scrutiny by regulators. A lawyer for the family of Yoon Hong-geun, who owned the car and died in the crash, declined to comment. Tesla sold 17,828 vehicles in South Korea in 2021, registration data shows. Judge Park Won-gyu said that he plans to call Tesla engineers to testify and that the safety of Tesla vehicles would be examined at trial.

A musician says he set up a fake Tesla account to show Elon Musk was "thin-skinned." Connor Musarra told Newsweek he created a parody verified Tesla account to highlight the issues with some of Musk's decisions for Twitter. The LA-based musician told the outlet: "The goal of my fake Tesla account was to highlight how much of a thin-skinned, incompetent buffoon Elon is, but also I just wanted to make people laugh." Musarra told Newsweek that Musk had "introduced a new level of unmanageable insanity" with his new paid verification system. Musarra said in a TikTok that his parody Tesla account was active for six or seven hours.
Companies Tesla Inc FollowSAN FRANCISCO, Nov 14 (Reuters) - California prosecutors have asked a court to delay a trial for a Tesla (TSLA.O) Model S driver who faces manslaughter charges over a 2019 crash that left two people dead, according to court documents. Prosecutors want to push back the trial to late February or later, saying two police officers assigned to the case would be on medical leave and vacation. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said the two sides will set a new date for the trial on Tuesday. In October, prosecutors charged Tesla driver Kevin George Aziz Riad of "vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence." Tesla was not charged in the case, but the company's claims about its partially automated driving systems are expected to be in focus.
China is Tesla's second-largest market, and the crash was among the top trending topics on the Weibo social media platform on Sunday. Calls to police in Raoping, the county where the accident happened, went unanswered on Sunday. Tesla has faced claims of brake failure in China before. In that instance, Tesla said speeding violations were behind her crash but promised to improve how it addressed customer complaints. SAO PAULO, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Australian Oscar Piastri will drive for McLaren in Formula One's Abu Dhabi post-season test after the team reached an agreement with Renault-owned Alpine to release him, both sides said on Saturday. French driver Pierre Gasly will also be freed by Red Bull-owned AlphaTauri to test with Alpine, the team he is joining for 2023. McLaren announced in September that 21-year-old Piastri, Alpine's reserve this year, had signed for 2023 as a replacement for compatriot Daniel Ricciardo after winning a contract dispute. He said Piastri would start working officially with McLaren on Nov. 21 and test the current car at Yas Marina. Seidl said getting Piastri in the car for the Abu Dhabi test was important.

TAIPEI, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Foxconn-led (2317.TW) electric vehicle consortium MIH announced plans on Tuesday for its first car, a boxy single row three-seater which it hopes will be popular with one-child families in Asia. Betting on strong demand in Asian markets for smaller electric cars, MIH Consortium plans to build its first car, which it calls Project X, in 2023 and start mass production the following year, though no customers have been confirmed, the company said. "Build your own vehicle with Project X," Cheng said, referring to the car's modular design. MIH is eyeing not only Taiwan, but also India, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan as prospective markets for the three-seater. "The American market tends towards large cars," Cheng told reporters, adding that this model would suit a single-child family.
Critics say Tesla's claims and Autopilot have contributed to accidents – and deaths - by making drivers inattentive. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Tesla itself should face criminal charges over its self-driving claims, Reuters reported. The car's Autopilot system, which can control speed, braking and steering, was engaged at the time of the crash. The family of Gilberto Lopez is suing Tesla with trial scheduled for July. "The narrative of Tesla potentially shifts from this innovative tech company doing cool things to this company just mired in legal trouble.
Russell's company makes LiDAR tech, but Elon Musk has continually spoken out against the radars in the past. Russell founded Tesla self-driving rival Luminar Technologies in 2012 when he was a 17-year-old. Instead of LiDAR, Tesla relies on a suite of external cameras and other sensors for its autonomous-driving efforts. In an interview with Time, Russell said he believes Tesla will not be able to fully achieve self-driving technology until it embraces LiDAR technology. "We effectively have more major commercial wins than any other LiDAR company, and probably any other autonomous vehicle industry company," Russell said.

Rubber builds up on airport runways and runway lights every time a plane's wheels touch down. Narrator: Every time a plane lands, each tire leaves around 1½ pounds of rubber on the runway. That temperature makes the tread rubber melt and bond to the runway and lights that guide pilots. That's over 30 pounds of rubber lost per landing – equivalent to the amount of rubber in two of your car's tires. And runway lights, used to guide takeoff, landing, and taxiing, especially at night and in low-visibility conditions, are dimmed by the melted rubber bonding to them.

Germany company Sono Motors says it will bring a solar-powered electric vehicle to market in Europe in mid-2023. Sono has brought the car, called the Sion, on a tour throughout the U.S., in anticipation of its eventual domestic release. For longer trips though, the Sion has a lithium iron phosphate battery with a 190-mile range, made by Chinese electric vehicle and battery giant BYD. Sono uses a polymer-based solar technology that it developed. While there are no mass-market solar electric vehicles available today, Hahn believes this technology will take off soon.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said during the company's Q3 earnings call on Tuesday evening that the company expects to fully meet the Inflation Reduction Act requirements that would allow consumers to receive tax credits on new EV purchases. It includes climate-related incentives, like an up to $7,500 tax credit for consumers who purchase an electric vehicle. "We believe Tesla is very well-positioned to capture a significant share of that for solar storage and also electric vehicles," Kirkhorn said. Shares of Tesla stock were down about 6% during premarket trading Thursday after falling short of analysts' revenue expectations for the quarter.
