The ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard Jones in Seattle on Friday came in a prospective antitrust class action that has estimated damages of between $55 billion to $172 billion. Amazon has denied the plaintiffs' claims, arguing that its "Fair Pricing Policy" has procompetitive benefits and that U.S. antitrust law encourages such a policy. Attorneys general in California and Washington, D.C., also have sued Amazon over pricing policies. The case is Frame-Wilson et al v. Two Gen Z travelers tell Insider they're willing to pay up for an authentic experience that also feels luxurious. One hospitality expert says technology and convenience should be at the forefront of hoteliers' minds when targeting Gen Z guests. "When it comes to traveling, Gen Z prioritizes authenticity and living in the moment," said Sharon Silverstein, the head of US verticals at Snapchat parent company Snap. "(Gen Z wants) to feel like they're doing something – that they're relevant — because they're living at home and can't afford to live otherwise. So Gen Z spends its money on experiences, but they want those experiences to be educational and have values that support their beliefs," Dawson Sheehan said.
Prosecutors portrayed Riley Williams, pictured in 2021, as a key figure in the Capitol riot. WASHINGTON—A Pennsylvania woman who led a mob into then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office suite during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot received a three-year prison sentence Thursday, after the judge rejected defense arguments that she was young and naive. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed the sentence on 24-year-old Riley Williams at the end of a three-hour hearing.
Here is why:TRUMPCiting national security concerns, then-President Donald Trump told reporters he planned to ban TikTok in July 2020, threatening to shut it down if it could not be sold by its Chinese owner Bytedance to a U.S. buyer. But Trump's attempt to block TikTok with an executive order derived its power from the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Even if it's sidestepped, greater legal questions remain," said John Costello, who oversaw the creation of the office at the Commerce Department to examine certain foreign technology for national security threats. HOW A BILL BECOMES A LAWWashington lawmakers have also launched two separate bills aimed at allowing the president to ban apps like TikTok on grounds they pose a risk to U.S. national security. "To justify a TikTok ban, the government would have to demonstrate that privacy and security concerns can't be addressed in narrower ways.
Leaders from Pacific island nations at risk from the climate crisis gathered last week in Vanuatu. The nations of Vanuatu and Tuvalu support a treaty to limit fossil-fuel use. Public and private financing for fossil fuels is also still greater than investment in climate adaptation and mitigation. Developing countries need financing to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, Berman said. "A fossil-fuel treaty could shift the social norm and make expansion unacceptable within foreign policy," Berman said.
Courts blocked a prior bid by the Trump administration to ban the app in part on the grounds that such a move violated free speech protections. Courts struck down former President Donald Trump's bid to block TikTok in 2020 with an executive order that granted the Commerce Department similar authorities as the RESTRICT act. But the bill will likely provide no immediate solutions for those calling for a ban on the app. Some experts said using the new legal tools to ban TikTok could still invite First Amendment challenges. "And there will most likely be a legal challenge if its used to ban TikTok."

Stock futures were little changed Tuesday evening as investors braced for the Federal Reserve's next move in its inflation-fighting rate hiking plan. S&P 500 futures added 0.01% and Nasdaq 100 futures hovered at the flat line. The moves came as fears over the ongoing banking crisis showed signs of easing, with investors "heartened by the increasing likelihood that the end of Fed policy tightening is near," said Brian Levitt, global market strategist for Invesco. "Fed tightening cycles typically end with a crisis, and those crises tend to end with policy responses. Investors are looking forward to the latest update from the Fed, at the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting on Wednesday.
Somone pooped near Hillary and Chelsea Clinton during a Broadway play last week, Page Six reports. "The house crew dealt with it very appropriately and quickly, and Hillary and Chelsea remained in the theater for the second act," one source told Page Six. Trump has denied having an affair with Daniels and says the probe by Bragg, a Democrat, is politically motivated. According to the lawsuit, the Trump Organization deceived lenders, insurers and tax authorities by inflating the value of his properties using misleading appraisals. A federal judge ruled that Trump and FBI Director Christopher Wray can be deposed for two hours each as part of the lawsuit. “What (Trump’s lawsuit) lacks in substance and legal support it seeks to substitute with length, hyperbole, and the settling of scores and grievances,” US District Judge Donald Middlebrooks wrote. Woodward later released “The Trump Tapes,” an audiobook featuring eight hours of raw interviews with Trump interspersed with the author’s commentary.

AI can be placed under the broad category of disruptive technology, which refers to innovations that change consumers' habits and displace old markets. Then, you have public cloud infrastructure that connects it all together, such as Amazon Web Services or the Google Compute Engine which provides infrastructure as a service (IaaS). For this reason, instead of taking the approach of creating something as narrow as an AI ETF, the ETF is focused on anything that signals disruption to an entire industry and changes the status quo. They have a "tremendous" market share in AI applications, and companies are hungry for their products, he noted. [1/2] Visa credit and debit cards are seen in this picture illustration taken August 2, 2022. REUTERS/Benoit TessierMarch 15 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Wednesday upheld a $5.6 billion antitrust class-action settlement with more than 12 million retailers that accused Visa Inc (V.N) and MasterCard Inc (MA.N) of improperly fixing credit and debit card fees. The operators and the companies both claimed to have been injured after accepting Visa and MasterCard for gas sales. The settlement resolved claims that Visa and MasterCard overcharged retailers on interchange fees, or swipe fees, when shoppers used credit or debit cards, and barred retailers from directing customers toward cheaper means of payment. Settling retailers would be barred from bringing further claims from within the 15-year class period, and for five more years after the settlement became final, court papers show.

So You Want to Turn an Office Building Into a Home? There’s an appealing simplicity to the idea of converting office buildings into housing.
