New Delhi CNN —Indian markets hit record highs on Monday as experts predicted a resounding victory for incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi in national elections. India’s benchmark Sensex index, which tracks 30 large companies, and the broader Nifty 50 index each jumped over 3% in early trade. The 73-year-old ran on his economic record over the past 10 years, a period of robust growth for India. “With the exit polls pointing towards 370 seats mark and ahead of street expectations of 320-350 seats, markets have reacted positively,” said Manish Chowdhury, head of research at brokerage StoxBox. The country’s stock markets have performed well during his tenure.

Of that number, at least 43 were election workers, authorities said. CNN —One of India’s biggest airlines has just launched a new feature that allows female travelers to see where other women are sitting when selecting seats for their flights. According to a statement sent to CNN, low-cost carrier IndiGo Airlines is offering the feature on a pilot basis to female passengers checking in for their flights online. The carrier, founded in 2006, operates more than 2,000 domestic and international flights per day in India. Though the airline didn’t specify a reason for giving women the option of seeing where other females are seated, assaults against women and children during commercial flights are reported regularly all over the world. “Typically, men are the perpetrators, and women and unaccompanied minors are the victims.”

The board of India's central bank approved a record surplus transfer of 2.11 trillion rupees ($25.35 billion) to the government for the fiscal year ended March, sharply above analysts' and government projections. The government had budgeted a dividend of 1.02 trillion rupees from the Reserve Bank of India, state-run banks and other financial institutions, interim budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024/25 show. The RBI board also decided to raise the contingency risk buffer (CRB) to 6.5% from 6% previously. Analysts had expected a surplus transfer in the range of 750 billion rupees to 1.2 trillion rupees, aided by strong foreign exchange earnings.
