BERLIN, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Countries like China should contribute more to compensation payments for countries hit by climate-fuelled disasters, German Development Minister Svenja Schulze told broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk on Friday. So they must also contribute to dealing with the damage," Schulze told Bayerischer Rundfunk in an interview. Climate negotiators on Friday were mulling a late-night European Union proposal aimed at resolving a stubborn impasse over financing for countries hit by climate-fuelled disasters and pushing this year's U.N. climate summit in Egypt closer to a final deal. The EU offer is at odds with a proposal by developing countries and China that called for all developing countries to have access to the fund. That proposal used a U.N. definition that would have allowed China to receive, not contribute, money.
The EU proposal would be to set up a special fund for covering loss and damage in the most vulnerable countries - but funded from a "broad donor base". "What we would propose is to establish a loss and damage response fund for the most vulnerable countries," EU climate policy chief Frans Timmermans told the COP27 summit. The Alliance of Small Island States and the G77 club of 134 developing countries, who have both pushed for a new fund at COP27, were consulting on their response to the EU proposal. Pakistan's ambassador to South Korea, Nabeel Munir, said Timmermans' proposal was "positive news" but that some divisions remained. The EU offer is at odds with a proposal by developing countries and China that called for all developing countries to have access to the fund.
REUTERS/Michael Weekes Jr./File PhotoNov 15 (Reuters) - Elon Musk’s rocket and satellite company SpaceX is in talks about an offering of mostly secondary shares that could value the company at up to $150 billion, representing a 20% increase in valuation, sources told Reuters. The offering would be aimed at helping employees and shareholders cash out, two of the sources said. That view appears to contradict earlier information from a separate source that the offering would raise up to $1 billion for SpaceX via a new share issuance. Talks with potential investors are centering around a price of $85 apiece for SpaceX shares, up from a split-adjusted $70 per share fetched earlier this year, sources said. The valuation is still fluid and any share sale plan, which requires SpaceX’s approval, could still change, the sources cautioned.
Top of mind, inevitably, was last week's implosion of FTX, as O'Leary was a spokesperson and investor with the exchange. It was our third conversation together, and O'Leary shared candid thoughts on his FTX investments going to zero, as well as details from a phone call he had with Sam Bankman-Fried just before FTX declared bankruptcy. O'Leary, a paid spokesperson for FTX, said he had initially gained trust in the company and its 30-year-old CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, a little over two years ago. The Shark Tank star told me that he was on the phone with Sam Bankman-Fried the day before FTX declared bankruptcy to discuss a price for potential buyers to rescue FTX. "He confirmed that it was $8 billion, and that's the number I took forward," O'Leary explained.

Trump proclaimed himself to be a "victim" during his 2024 campaign announcement Tuesday night. "We need more seriousness, less noise, and leaders who are looking forward, not staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood," Pompeo wrote on Twitter on Wednesday morning. Elon Musk is mulling making employees pay for lunch in the company cafeteria, per The New York Times. His polarizing comments drew backlash from a former Twitter employee, who said she ran the free lunch program at the company headquarters. Some said Musk was destroying Twitter's work culture, while others criticized Twitter's free lunch program, saying these meals are a privilege, not a right. Within one week of acquiring Twitter, Musk fired 50% of the company's employees. Musk moved on to laying off Twitter's contract staff over the weekend, with some affected employees saying they weren't given proper notice of impending layoffs.

LONDON, Nov 9 (Reuters Breakingviews) - In one sense, Ithaca Energy’s initial public offering on Wednesday was a success. But a 6% drop below its 250 pence listing price on its first day of trading suggests it’s not all good news read more . Ithaca, owned by Israel’s Delek Group (DLEKG.TA), has a newly minted equity value of roughly $2.9 billion, and $1.4 billion of net debt. CNN —Tesla drivers will soon be able to take a video call directly from their vehicle’s touchscreen dashboard, Zoom announced Tuesday. The video call provider announced on Tuesday during its annual Zoom (ZM)topia conference, where it typically teases new features to support remote calls, that its software is coming to Tesla (TSLA)’s built-in infotainment center. In a pre-recorded demo video shown at the event, a Tesla (TSLA) driver is seen taking a Zoom (ZM) call while recharging her vehicle. The Zoom news comes as Tesla faces growing competition in the electric vehicle market from established automakers such as Volkswagen, Ford and General Motors. SpaceX, for example, banned its employees from using Zoom in April 2020 over “significant privacy and security concerns.”

This weekend's $1.6 billion Powerball prize is the largest lottery jackpot in US history. The Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes are a key reason the headline prize is so high. In comparison, the lump sum prize for Saturday's lottery would only be approximately 49% of the $1.6 billion. So in some ways, the Fed is one reason Saturday's headline Powerball jackpot is the highest ever. This week, it surpassed the $1.54 billion Mega Millions jackpot in 2018 and the $1.59 billion Powerball jackpot in 2016.

NEW DELHI, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Primary schools in India's New Delhi will be shut from Saturday and restriction on road traffic will be considered, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday as the capital continued to be engulfed by high levels of air pollution. "We're shutting down all primary schools in Delhi from tomorrow ... Also shutting down outdoor activities for all classes above class 5," Kejriwal told a press conference. The decision to shut some schools came after concerned parents and environmentalists took to social media, urging the authorities to consider the impact of pollution on children. District officials in Noida, a satellite city of New Delhi, on Thursday directed all schools to conduct online classes for students up to the eighth grade. India's federal pollution control board on Thursday evening banned the entry of diesel trucks carrying non-essential goods into the capital.
Jeff Bezos may be interested in buying the NFL's Washington Commanders, according to multiple reports. But the team isn't officially for sale and Bezos has been linked to four NFL teams since 2018. The Amazon founder is "looking into buying the Washington Commanders," with music mogul Jay-Z potentially joining Bezos as an investor, a person close to Bezos told People on Thursday. The Commanders are worth $5.6 billion, according to an estimate by Forbes from August, making the team the 6th-most valuable NFL franchise. For Jay-Z, team ownership would be nothing new: the hip-hop star was a part-owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets, though he sold his stake in 2013.

So in 2018, they used a home equity line of credit to buy their first rental property in cash. While the couple could've saved for a down payment for their rental property, it would've taken months, if not a few years. In choosing the location for their rental property, they looked for a turnkey home that was pretty much move-in ready for tenants. Another perk of having a solid team to take care of their rental properties is the couple rarely needs to travel for in-person visits. All in all, Marques and Shyra are happy they made the decision to purchase their first rental property with a HELOC.

Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Urmas Reinsalu was asked Tuesday about Vladimir Putin. When political reporter Nina Haase-Trobridge of DW News asked Reinsalu, "Would you like to see Vladimir Putin go to jail," the foreign minister had another place in mind. Reinsalu's forward answer may not come as a surprise given his outspoken support for Ukraine and denunciation of Putin's war. The foreign minister previously defended his country's decision to ban Russian tourists and stop issuing new visas to Russians. At the outset of Russia's invasion, Estonia donated one-third of its military budget to Ukraine, according to the foreign minister.
