Here are five takeaways on the voters Trump won and what it means moving forward:The Latino realignmentA trend with the potential to remake the American political landscape is the huge shift in Latino voters toward Trump. Trump’s 1.5-point win in Osceola County flipped a location that President Joe Biden won by 14 points four years earlier. Trump’s performance similarly improved in Orange County, home of Orlando, where Biden won by 23 points in 2020 but Harris won by just 5.6 points this year. Trump’s gains are explained in part by his appeals to Black men, and his efforts to reach out to Arab American voters. Harris won by 10 points and 85,000 votes — short of the 14-point, 114,000-vote win Biden had notched there in 2020.

A Federal Emergency Management Agency employee was fired after recently advising a disaster relief team to not visit homes with yard signs that support President-elect Donald Trump. FEMA did not clarify where the incident happened, or when, and the employee has not been identified. But in a statement on Saturday, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell called the incident "reprehensible." Ron DeSantis said he directed the state's Division of Emergency Management to launch an investigation into "the federal government’s targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump." Moskowitz, a Democrat, said in the Friday statement that the Margate Police Department notified him about an alleged “potential plot” on his life on Monday, a day before Tuesday’s general election. “I am deeply worried about congressional member security and the significant lack thereof when we are in the district,” Moskowitz said. “Political violence has no place in our country,” Gimenez said in a statement. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the billionaire backer of newly minted President-elect Donald Trump, endorsed the idea of allowing presidents to intervene on Federal Reserve policy. Though brief, Musk's comment reflects a broader pressure campaign on Fed independence that could take shape in the next Trump administration. On Thursday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said he would not resign from his post if Trump asked him to do so. But during his first term in office, Trump was not shy about breaking from tradition and publicly disparaging Powell and his policy decisions. Over the course of the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump also often flirted with the idea of giving himself a say in Fed policy if he were to win the White House again.

As president, Trump repeatedly came under fire from ethics groups for potential conflicts of interest relating to his businesses and brands. A source familiar with the process acknowledged that details are still being worked out with the Biden administration regarding the ethics agreement, which is required by law under the Presidential Transition Act and which applies to all members of the transition team. Updates to that bill requiring the ethics pledge were introduced by Trump ally Sen. Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, and signed into law by Trump himself in March 2020. The Trump team ignored a pair of key preelection deadlines to unlock transition activities with the Biden administration’s General Services Administration and the White House. The ethics agreement was also due by October 1.

In terms of the Electoral College, Trump is on track to win 312 electoral votes if his lead in Arizona holds. It would be a better showing than either his or Joe Biden’s 306 electoral votes in 2016 and 2020, respectively. But it would be far short of Barack Obama’s 365 electoral votes in 2008 and 332 in 2012. Bill Clinton never reached 50% in the popular vote because both of his presidential elections featured a strong third-party candidate in Ross Perot. But Clinton did run away with the Electoral College vote, winning 370 electoral votes in 1992 and 379 in 1996.

As President-elect Donald Trump doubles down on his mass deportation plan, some Republicans are trying to assuage fears amid growing questions of who will be forced out of the country. The prospect of mass deportations is generating fear and apprehension among families with noncitizen members and businesses that employ undocumented workers. The president-elect has also said he would withhold federal grants to police that don’t cooperate in his mass deportation plan as well as use the National Guard to carry it out. But not long ago, some Republicans have resisted Democratic administrations' attempts to prioritize certain immigrants over others for deportation. “If he deports violent criminals, gang leaders and drug leaders, people who committed violent crimes like rape or murder, isn’t that mass deportation?” Muniz asked.

Overall, the Democratic campaign and pro-Democratic outside groups spent almost $1.8 billion, while the Trump campaign and pro-Republican outside groups spent $1.4 billion. WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice on Friday charged an Iranian man in a murder-for-hire plot to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump and two others in a plot to kill an American journalist critical of Tehran. The three who were charged are Farhad Shakeri of Iran; Carlisle Rivera of Brooklyn, New York; and Jonathan Loadholt, of Staten Island, New York. Around Oct. 7, the Iranian official tasked Shakeri with providing a plan within seven days to kill Trump, he told law enforcement in recorded interviews, the complaint says. Shakeri told FBI officials that he didn’t intend to propose a plan to assassinate Trump in the timeframe set by the IRGC, it says. Trump was also briefed by U.S. intelligence officials after the attempt in September about threats from Iran to kill him.
