CNN —Twin bomb threats hit Indian airliners on opposite sides of the globe on Tuesday, forcing an emergency landing in the Arctic and fighter jets to scramble in Asia – the latest in a series of similar hoax scares for the country’s airlines. On Tuesday, an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago made an emergency landing in Iqaluit, Canada’s northernmost city. Air India flight 127 was the “subject of a security threat posted online” and diverted “as a precautionary measure,” the airline said. Multiple flights by Indian carriers have been delayed or diverted due to false bomb threats since Monday. The Air India emergency landing in Canada comes as tensions rise between the two countries after Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, on Monday.

London CNN —For consumers still scarred by jumps in their energy bills in recent years, the International Energy Agency has good news: Oil and natural gas prices will probably be lower over the next five years. Energy prices soared in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which followed a rise in global demand as economies reopened after Covid lockdowns put lives on hold. And that “would move us into a very different energy world from the one we have experienced in recent years during the global energy crisis,” he added in a statement accompanying the IEA’s latest World Energy Outlook report. But global oil output has been increasing, thanks mostly to producers in the United States and other countries in the Americas. The energy body reiterated its previous forecasts that demand for oil, natural gas and coal will peak by the end of the decade.

Standing in shackles before the judge on Wednesday, Telles offered “deepest condolences” to German’s family but again denied responsibility for the reporter’s death. “But I did not kill Mr. German.”Prosecutor Pamela Weckerly told the judge that evidence showed Telles killed German because “he didn’t like what Mr. German had written about him. Prosecutor Christopher Hamner told the jury that Telles blamed German for destroying his career, ruining his reputation and threatening his marriage. Telles told the jury he took a walk and went to a gym at the time German was killed. “Although the jailing of Telles cannot undo Jeff German’s murder, it can act as an important deterrent to would-be assailants of journalists.”

In the coming days, their efforts may yield a new indictment, a gag order, and a bail decision. Federal prosecutors have signaled they are looking at weapons and drug charges. Combs' indictment alleges he gave ecstasy, ketamine, GHB, and other so-called party drugs to his victims "to keep them obedient and compliant." Federal prosecutors say this is one of three AR-15 rifles with defaced serial numbers seized from Combs' residences in March. They have yet to file a response to Combs' bail appeal.

President Joe Biden, who has conveyed in public his opposition to striking Tehran’s nuclear and oil facilities, discussed Israel’s plans with Netanyahu during a classified phone call last week. In that conversation, Netanyahu relayed to Biden his plan to hit military targets, the person said. The Washington Post first reported that Netanyahu had reassured Biden of his plans to avoid nuclear and oil targets. And hitting Iran’s nuclear facilities could trigger the full-blown regional war that Biden has desperately sought to avoid. American officials have said they expected a measured response from Israel, believing the country did not want an out-of-control conflict with Iran.

With the U.S. presidential election fast approaching, U.S. intelligence officials have issued a stark warning: China's latest efforts to influence the outcome is shifting away from the presidential race and toward state and local candidates. This new focus is part of a broader strategy by Beijing to build relationships with officials who could eventually advance China's interests. Local and state elections have become prime targets for Chinese interference because they receive far less scrutiny than national races, making it easier for China's influence campaigns to fly under the radar. One example of China's influence operations is its use of disinformation campaigns designed to exploit divisive issues such as immigration, racial justice, and economic inequality. Despite these efforts, controlling the full scope of foreign influence operations remains a daunting challenge.

Elon Musk’s empire of misinformation

New York CNN —At any Tesla event, you have to go in expecting a good amount of smoke and mirrors. This is the company run by Elon Musk, after all — its self-anointed Technoking who’s made overpromising and underdelivering a theme of his career. ICYMI: The robotaxis, Tesla’s fully driverless vehicles that it hopes to put into service next year, were the main event. But Musk’s reality distortion field is something else entirely — hardly limited to overly optimistic timetables or pie-in-the-sky projections for Tesla’s delivery schedule. In a twist, though, X dropped Unilever from the lawsuit on Friday.

Philip Esformes, whose 20-year prison sentence for a massive, $1.3 billion Medicare fraud scheme was commuted in 2020 by then-President Donald Trump, was arrested over the weekend in Florida on domestic-violence related charges. Esformes is at least the seventh person who received executive clemency from Trump, and has since been charged with new crimes, according to The New York Times, which first reported this latest arrest. Court records show that Esformes was arrested Saturday and then charged with tampering with a victim or witness, and with criminal mischief involving property damage. CNBC also has requested comment from a lawyer for Esformes' ex-wife, Sherri Beth Esformes, whose divorce from him was finalized in July 2020. On Tuesday, a judge in Miami federal court set a deadline of Nov. 4 for Philip Esformes to respond to his ex-wife's filing.

Horror fans are calling the main character, Art the Clown, a new icon for the genre. Fans say the success of "Terrifier 3" has cemented its lead character, the demonic, mute serial killer Art the Clown, as a horror icon. Now, fans have hailed Art as a modern horror icon akin to other slasher villains such as Norman Bates, Leatherface, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger. My horror hot take:Art the Clown is the first true horror icon to emerge thus far this century (Pennywise was already an icon under Tim Curry, and the “Saw” films have gone on without Jigsaw). He’s the horror icon we need right now.

UNIFIL – the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon – has called the violations “shocking.”Israel has accused Hezbollah of operating in areas near UNIFIL posts. On Friday, two UNIFIL troops were injured after two explosions occurred close to an observation tower. The UNIFIL troops are tasked with monitoring border violations and keeping the area, which includes Hezbollah strongholds – secure. It’s the latest example of Harris’ campaign drawing sharper distinctions with Trump in the presidential race’s closing weeks, using the former president’s own words and those of his former aides to cast him as dangerous and unstable. In Erie on Monday, Harris will highlight Trump’s comments Sunday on Fox News, when he said he isn’t worried about his supporters’ actions on Election Day. Harris on Monday plans to warn that Trump’s actions could put people’s freedom at risk. Harris’ campaign will also release a new ad, dubbed “Enemy Within,” which features Trump repeatedly invoking the phrase “the enemy from within” on the campaign trail. “The enemy within are people that Kamala Harris let into this country, unvetted, unchecked and undocumented.”During her event Monday, Harris also plans to show attendees in Erie what Trump rallies are like, the aide said.

Canada and India each expelled six diplomats Monday in tit-for-tat moves as part of an escalating dispute over the June 2023 assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada. Shortly afterward, the Indian foreign ministry said that it was expelling six Canadian diplomats, including the acting high commissioner and the deputy high commissioner. It said in a statement that the diplomats were told to leave India by the end of Saturday. A senior Canadian official said that Canada expelled the Indian diplomats first before they withdrew.
