And Wall Street is calling Europe a better bet than the U.S. right now . "The region also remains cheap and under-owned unlike the U.S." Amid this bullishness on Europe, however, a number of investment banks have named stocks in the region they think investors should avoid. Underweight stocks One such stock is Danish shipping firm Maersk , which is on Barclays' list of underweight stock calls for the first quarter of 2023. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File PhotoJan 26 (Reuters) - Swedish truck maker AB Volvo (VOLVb.ST) reported a slightly smaller rise than expected in fourth-quarter core profit on Thursday and proposed an extra dividend but warned that its supply chain struggles are set to linger. The world's second-biggest truck manufacturer proposed an ordinary annual dividend of 7.00 crowns per share and a extra dividend of the same amount.

BMW today accounts for about a quarter of Greenville-Spartanburg’s roughly 15 international cargo flights a week. Air cargo volumes fell through most of last year as manufacturers and retailers pulled back on orders because of slowing consumer spending. Rockford, about 70 miles from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, has become one of the most successful regional airports for cargo. It is a hub for United Parcel Service Inc. and has attracted air operations for companies including Amazon.com Inc., DSV and A.P.

"Demand for trucks is, I would say, unprecedented," said David Carson, SVP of sales and marketing for Daimler Trucks North America. "We've seen an incredible demand going through Covid and continuing well into next year. Four companies dominate U.S. truck manufacturing: Daimler Trucks, Paccar, Volvo and Traton. Truck makers are spending billions to replace fuel-burning diesel engines with battery- and hydrogen-powered electric systems. Established truck makers, such as the more-than-century-old Daimler, are balancing keeping their particular and often extremely cost-sensitive customers happy in the present, while investing for an uncertain future.

Jan 24 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) said on Tuesday it would invest more than $3.6 billion to expand its Nevada manufacturing complex with two new factories, including the first facility to mass produce its long-delayed Semi electric truck. The 18-wheeler truck has a range of 500 miles on a single charge and can carry 81,000 pounds including the cargo. Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm said in November that Tesla might produce 100 Semis in 2022, but the company did not disclose any figure in its fourth-quarter production report. Bought from McLaren by private equity firm Greybull Capital in 2021, McLaren Applied has adapted an efficient inverter developed for F1 racing for EVs. Fry says McLaren Applied is working with around 20 carmakers and suppliers, and the inverter will appear in high-volume luxury EV models starting January 2025. NO TIME TO LOSESome suppliers like Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Actnano have had long relationships with EV pioneer Tesla (TSLA.O). Coakley said CelLink was working with U.S. and European carmakers, and with a European battery maker on battery wiring. But it has now also developed battery packs, electric powertrains, e-axles and is working with around 20 customers, including carmakers and an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft maker.
"Geely will make consistent investments into LEVC because this is a very unique project." Nan said LEVC and Geely would seek to attract other investors to its zero-emission portfolio and would look to partner with other carmakers to develop new technology. "Geely fully supports the new transition strategy laid out by LEVC's board and executive team," Geely said in a statement. As such, Geely faces a complexity that larger EV makers BYD (002594.SZ) and Tesla (TSLA.O) have avoided. Allen said LEVC was exploring a range of commercial and passenger car models on a common electric platform.

Italvolt to license battery technology from Israel's StoreDot
  + stars: | 2023-01-16 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
BERLIN, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Electric vehicle batterymaker Italvolt will license fast-charging battery technology from Israeli start-up StoreDot to manufacture lithium-ion batteries at a plant it is raising funds to build in Italy, the companies said on Monday. Italvolt will ringfence a minimum amount of the batteries produced at the plant for StoreDot's business and customers, Italvolt's statement said, without specifying the amount. Fast-charge capability could also enable EV manufacturers to install smaller battery packs and thus lower the cost of their cars. Currently, StoreDot licenses technology to its manufacturing partner EVE Energy (300014.SZ) to produce batteries in China and ship to customers in China and Korea. Italvolt is one of a handful of battery startups trying to raise money and build a homegrown European battery industry to compete with the Asian giants that dominate global sales.

The GV70 2.5T Advanced, seen here, had an as-tested price of $52,925. This thundering herd of tiny hooves accounted for about a half-million sales in 2022, depending on what you count as a compact (vs. midsize), premium (vs. luxury) and crossover (vs. SUV). Alas, the grim truth about 4-H is that, no matter how primped and polished the contestants, when they enter the show ring, they become livestock—commoditized, consumable. Amélie is one of the few female truck drivers in France. The photographer, whose uncle is also a trucker, met Amélie at a truck show in southeastern France where drivers decorate their vehicles for a competition. Lamoulère then shot her portrait of the newly-engaged couple in front of Amélie’s truck, the bouquet placed on the dashboard above their heads. She said it’s rare to see a young woman “aboard monsters like Amélie’s truck” and finds it “very beautiful” to see her forge her own path.

Zenseact becomes fully owned subsidiary of Volvo Cars

Dec 31 (Reuters) - Sweden-based Volvo Car AB said on Saturday it had taken 100% ownership of its autonomous driving (AD) software development subsidiary Zenseact. Volvo Cars acquired 13.5% of shares in Zenseact from ECARX, which made the AD software company a fully owned subsidiary of the Swedish automaker. Zenseact will continue to remain and operate as a standalone company, Volvo Cars said. Despite Volvo Cars taking ECARX's shares in the software company, the ongoing collaboration discussions between Zenseact and ECARX will continue as planned, Volvo Cars said. Zenseact received a strategic investment in 2021 from ECARX where it asked for 15% shareholding in the software company.
Bloomberg includes plug-in hybrids in its count of “electric vehicles,” but a large majority are purely battery-powered models. It’s unclear exactly why 5% seems to mark the point where EV sales really take off. The Mustang Mach-E, which hit the market in in 2021, was the first electric vehicle to take a notable chunk of Tesla’s still-dominant EV market share. The act, passed this year, changes the rules around which electric vehicles are eligible for consumer tax credits. Given their popularity and already high sales, incentive rules could help push EV sales significantly higher.
Car companies want to make extra money by charging car owners for software updates. Volvo won't ask owners to pay up for minor upgrades like heated seats, its COO told Bloomberg. As some rivals seek to monetize every corner of car ownership, Volvo won't charge extra for minor software updates and feature upgrades, according to an executive. He said Volvo could ask owners to pay up for a significant update like a self-driving system. Volvo's approach is markedly different from competitors that are pushing the limits of what customers will pay extra for.
The global electric commercial vehicle market is expected to top $370 billion in annual revenue by 2030. With a flood of new battery-powered autos set to transform the business of building passenger vehicles, it was natural that commercial vehicles would be next. The global electric commercial vehicles market is expected to surpass $370 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to Guidehouse Insights. It also has its toes deep into electric mobility, building batteries not only for EVs but also electric buses, boats, and trucks. Now, through internal changes and acquisitions, BorgWarner is positioning itself for the electrified future, especially as that future comes to commercial vehicles.
