The US is sending Ukraine more riverine patrol boats in an aid package announced this month. The 40 boats in the latest package will join the 18 boats that the US supplied to Kyiv in June. The aid assistance package hasn't detailed the type of riverine boats that will be sent, but six from the previous batch were made by Louisiana-based Metal Shark. Those are now reportedly operating in the Black Sea. Ukraine defiantThe US supplied 10 34-foot Dauntless Sea Ark patrol boats, like those seen above, to Ukraine in June.

Her story adds to the firsthand accounts describing torture by Russian forces. She was among the Ukrainian service members who surrendered in May after being trapped in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol for weeks as Russian forces surrounded and bombed it. The amount would be enough “to make sure [Ukraine] can get through the year,” a Republican senator with knowledge of the matter told NBC News. Congress has allocated a total of $65 billion in funding to Ukraine since Russia attacked the country in February. “They don’t want to deal with it next year,” said Vajdich, a former Republican congressional staffer. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a staunch supporter of military aid to Ukraine, said last month that he had discussed the issue with McCarthy and that he agreed other countries need to do more to assist Ukraine.

A Ukrainian woman told The Washington Post she was raped and tortured by Russian soldiers in Izium. Her account adds to many reports of rape, torture, and other alleged war crimes by Russian troops. Her story follows reports of rape and torture committed by Russian troops that have poured out of Ukraine nearly since the war began in February. After Russian troops retreated from Izium in September, an Associated Press investigation identified 10 sites across the city in which Russian soldiers had tortured Ukrainian service members and civilians. The investigation found Russian soldiers committed rape and torture, including against children, and in some cases made families of the victims watch.

The US Army is looking for companies that can build up to 12,000 155 mm artillery shells a month. The US had sent 126 M777 cannons and more than 800,000 rounds of 155 mm ammunition to Ukraine as of early September. Last year, the Army wanted to cut funding for the production of 155 mm shells that had been approved by Congress. The US has also been sending M982 Excalibur GPS-guided 155 mm shells to Ukraine. Canada has shipped 155 mm shells to Ukraine and is now asking South Korea to replenish its stocks.
