Taylor Swift Halts Morgan Wallen’s Run at No. 1

For 12 weeks, nothing could stop Morgan Wallen’s domination of the Billboard chart with his latest album, “One Thing at a Time.” Not Metallica. Then came deluxe reissues of “Midnights,” Taylor Swift’s seven-month-old LP. In the United States, “Midnights” has had the equivalent of nearly five million sales and been streamed 3.2 billion times. Lately, as Swift’s Eras Tour has become a cultural juggernaut, her wider catalog has also dotted the upper ranks of the album chart. Last week, Swift had nine titles in the Top 40.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ (Lindsay’s Version)
  + stars: | 2023-05-30 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
Dear listeners,This past weekend, along with more than 200,000 people in the New York metropolitan area, I attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. I saw sights I will never forget: more than one person, in late May, dressed head to toe as a Christmas tree (an inside joke about Swift growing up on a Christmas tree farm … I think? ); a father proudly wearing a handmade shirt that read “Real Men Listen to Taylor Swift”; enough sequins per square inch that, when the sun hit it right, MetLife Stadium could probably be seen from space. But, of course, I also saw a generation-defining pop superstar performing at the top of her game, throughout a sprawling, near-three-and-a-half-hour set that highlighted her stylistic versatility, physical stamina and ongoing evolution as a songwriter. Though Swift has long had a flair for both spectacle and intimacy in a live setting, what I couldn’t shake (shake, shake) during this marathon 45-song set was how completely she’s come into her power as a performer.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Touches Down in New Jersey
  + stars: | 2023-05-27 | by ( Matt Stevens | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Two months and 25 shows after the pop megastar’s career-spanning Eras Tour began, the show arrived in the New York area for three weekend dates — her first concerts near (but not quite in) her adopted hometown in five years. “I really, really missed you!” Swift told the sold-out crowd of more than 72,000 people. One young woman announced that she was crying tears of joy as she strode down a tunnel leading to the parking lot. Two fans with tickets to Saturday’s concert who had traveled from Costa Rica came hoping to see Swift on Friday as well. A woman in an “I ❤️ T.S.” shirt refused an interview request, admitting that she teaches at a public school and was not supposed to be at the stadium on a Friday afternoon.
Or, in other words, the Taylor Swift look. “This has become a wild year already for us because of Taylor Swift,” said Johnson, CEO of Hazel & Olive. Daniel Swift’s nerves were shot. By the start of 2019, his Navy SEAL colleagues said, he was hardly eating or sleeping. He had separated from his wife. A court had barred him from seeing his four children, and he was facing legal charges for false imprisonment and domestic battery.
CNN —Taylor Swift appeared to help a concert-goer in the crowd of her latest “Eras Tour” stop in Philadelphia on Saturday, and videos of the moment are circulating on social media. Videos from the show at the Lincoln Financial Field showed Swift interrupting her 2014 hit “Bad Blood” to defend a person in the crowd. “She’s fine,” Swift is first heard yelling into the crowd, noticeably perturbed by what she had seen. Saturday’s show wasn’t entirely full of bad blood. The “Eras Tour” is Swift’s first tour in five years and kicked off in March in Glendale, Arizona.

“My family [last weekend] took the gamble to drive down the 5 hours to Nashville to see if we could get face value tickets,” she said. Another Twitter account called @ErasTourResell, which has 120,000 followers, has gained significant traction working with resellers who want to sell their tickets at face value. The trio of twenty-somethings aim to make Swift tickets as accessible to fans as possible without them overpaying or getting scammed. “So far we’ve posted somewhere between 2,700 and 3,000 tickets, all for face value,” the trio said in a DM conversation on Twitter. “It’s truly so rewarding seeing these tickets go to real fans for face value when the resale market has insane prices with people making three times the profit.

Even if the bump turns out to be only an illusion, the collective joy will have been enough. Swiftie SleuthingThe Bigolas drama was not this week’s only strange collision between publishing and internet culture. Other pieces of pseudo-evidence: The book’s release date, July 9, is a lyric in the Swift song “Last Kiss,” and Swift referenced the date in a recent Instagram post announcing the re-release of her album “Fearless.” (The words “dear reader” in the Instagram post added fuel to the fire.) Bob Lingle, the owner of Good Neighbor Bookstore in Lakewood, N.Y., first heard about the Swiftie speculation in a Facebook group for independent booksellers. On Saturday morning, he posted to his bookstore’s TikTok account about the rumors and opened up pre-orders for the book, just in case.
CNN —More than a decade ago there was speculation that “Glee” star Dianna Agron and Taylor Swift may have had a “Love Story.”Agron has now addressed it. In a recently published interview with Rolling Stone, the actress was asked about being a supposed inspiration for Swift’s 2012 single “22” from the “Red” album as Agron appears in the liner notes. Oh, if only!”“That’s more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song,” she said. I … I mean, there have been many stories about my dating life that are so wildly untrue,” Agron said. “That’s funny.”CNN has reached out to a rep for Swift for comment.
CNN —Taylor Swift is releasing another new recording of an earlier album: “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” will be out July 7, the megastar announced on Instagram. “With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you on July 7th,” Swift wrote. First released in 2010, “Speak Now” was written by Swift when she was 18-20 years old, she said. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it,” Swift wrote. In 2021, Swift released “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version).
The company was hired by the BBC to handle ticketing for a concert on May 7 to celebrate the ascension of King Charles to the British throne. Some fans who received an email from the ticketing site saying they’d won tickets for The Coronation Concert say they were later told that all tickets were gone. A total of 10,000 free tickets for next week’s concert were allocated to fans in three ballots. But some fans have said Ticketmaster’s instructions on how to secure the tickets allocated in the third ballot were confusing and contradictory. “Like so many others, [I] got the @Ticketmaster email to say I’d got tickets for the Coronation concert but they’re all gone.
CNN —Taylor Swift fans have rallied in support of a fellow fan who was killed early Saturday after leaving Swift’s Houston concert. Jacob Lewis, 20, was hit and killed by a drunken driver after The Eras Tour show at NRG Stadium in Houston on Friday night. Karyn and Steve Lewis, Jacob’s parents, told CNN that the money donated will go toward a scholarship for theater students in the Katy, Texas, area. “If we could have him back that would be our choice but that’s not an option so we need to move forward and do what we can do to support others,” Steve told CNN. “We’ve gotten support from people who don’t even know us and now we’re able to honor him in a special way,” Steve said.
Taylor Swift sends powerful message to women on tour

CNN —My first stirrings of discomfort at Taylor Swift’s show in Las Vegas hit after the infectious beat faded from fan-favorite “Cruel Summer,” the second song in her supersized set. Challenging double standardsTaylor Swift flexes during her performance at Allegient Stadium in Las Vegas. And whether we were cringing in our seats, like me, or cheering her on, also like me, her words delivered a powerful message. Like Swift, who will perform for over three straight hours on every night of this 52-stop tour, I’m also an endurance athlete. Over the course of this tour, millions of women will watch her share her success.

Is it the best song on Haim’s sprawling and fantastic 2020 album “Women in Music Part III”? Even though she was born in 2000, “Care” shows how intuitively she understands something about the sort of scuzzy, anthemic indie-pop that underground labels like Slumberland Records were releasing in the ’90s. Taylor Swift Fans Are Ready to Hear the Breakup Songs

Taylor Swift fans are waiting to see how she might address the end of her relationship on tour. Photo: John Shearer/Getty Images for TAS Rights ManagementLike many Taylor Swift fans, Michelle Lopez, 27, was sad to see reports this month that the singer had ended her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. “The things she’d write about him made the relationship seem like it was a fairy tale love story,” said Ms. Lopez, a social-media analyst in Chicago, citing such songs as “Call It What You Want” and “Invisible String.” But she sees at least one upside: The breakup could bode well for Ms. Swift’s ever-evolving “Eras Tour” set list.
Loren McManus has spent months sewing costumes for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. The outfits are bejeweled, sparkly and can make a stadium shimmer—but they’re not for the stage. Taylor mania means a boom time for tailors. Swifties are going all out, paying hundreds of dollars to have fashion designers create custom looks to wear to Ms. Swift’s first tour in five years. Most want copies of designer dresses the superstar has worn on red carpets or in music videos.

New York CNN —Taylor Swift fans headed to court in Los Angeles Monday to face off against Ticketmaster after the ticketing giant fumbled online sales to the mega-star’s latest tour. Ticketmaster and parent-company Live Nation face a lawsuit from Swifties across the country filed in December for “unlawful conduct” in the pop star’s chaotic tour sale. The lawsuit alleges Ticketmaster and its parent company were anti-competitive, imposing higher prices on fans in the presale, sale and resale market. It’s the only place to get tickets,” Swift fan Penny Harrison told CNN. Pre-sale tickets for “The Eras Tour” frustrated Swift fans across the country in a debacle that stayed in the headlines for weeks.
The company’s Stream Onyx is one of the first record players designed specifically to work with Sonos, letting you listen to your vinyl albums as easily as streaming songs from Spotify. Both work the same way: Do some light assembly, plug them in, launch the Victrola app and soon, that weathered copy of “Rumours” can be playing through all your Sonos speakers. The analog-to-digital conversion means you’ll hear all the characteristic vinyl hisses and cracks, and since Sonos speakers generally sound pretty good, so will your records. If you already have a turntable you like, but you’re in the market for new speakers, then consider Sonos’ new Era speakers. Once you have one of those connected to your record player, you can then stream your vinyl to the rest of your Sonos products.
