CNN —South Korean soccer player Son Jun-ho tearfully denied on Wednesday accusations by Chinese authorities that he participated in match-fixing and bribery when playing in the country and said he gave a false confession under duress. “I never took part in match-fixing,” Son told a news conference. He was not mistreated during detention, Son added, but described the conditions in which he was held as harsh. The General Administration of Sport of China and the foreign and public security ministries did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In her first public comments since being stripped of a bronze medal she appeared to have rightfully won, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles on Wednesday said she’s still seeking “justice” and “peace." Chiles, speaking at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit, said the situation regarding the disputed medal has taken a severe emotional toll. “At this rate, it’s not really about the medal, it’s about my peace and my justice,” the 23-year-old said at the conference. Once that scoring error was corrected, Chiles vaulted into third place and the bronze medal. "No matter what, I'm always going to have those accolades with me and I'm going to continue to shine bright in the ways that I'm going to shine bright, because the star is never going to get dimmed."

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert late Tuesday night clarified that she’s vehemently opposed to “hate or racism” after her response to a question about social media abuse drew criticism from players in her league. Instead of addressing the matter with a simple message against online hate, Engelbert toasted their rivalry and celebrated that there’s “no more apathy” in the WNBA. "During a recent media interview, I was asked about the dark side of social media and online conversation about WNBA rivalries and race," she wrote on the platform formally known as Twitter. "To be clear, there is absolutely no place for hate or racism of any kind in the WNBA or anywhere else." Yet all the things I've seen and the feedback I've received from those back home following or watching have been exceptional. The 51-year-old sprinter, who transitioned in 2019, reached T12 200m and 400m semi-finals at the recent Paralympic Games in Paris. So all of this fear that trans people will destroy the world (of women’s sport) actually does not exist. Over the last few years, the discourse around transgender athletes has garnered widespread attention. Shaw, a co-senior author of the new study, acknowledged a link between early puberty and excess weight in young girls. “I do think it plays a role, but in my practice, it’s not just those who are overweight or obese who are having early puberty,” she said. Both Brink and USC's women's basketball star JuJu Watkins agreed that more women's sports games need to be more accessible for fans, with Brink saying "keep showing it and making it easier to watch."
