Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has taken the US by storm as Swifties do all that they can to see it. He's been to the Eras Tour eight times and sat in the front row for five of those shows. "I remember sending a text in 2019 to someone saying if there was ever a Taylor Swift best-of tour, money becomes no object," he said. QuestionPro, a research company, found that the Eras Tour could result in $4.6 billion in consumer spending in the US. That means she's putting upwards of $10,000 towards the Eras Tour, and might spend even more at future dates.

As Gen Z would say, she was bed rotting. Lounging in bed for more than a day or two is concerning and could point to different mental health issues, Gold said. This sort of behavior has been linked to symptoms of depression and anxiety, among other mental health illnesses, Gold added. Activities beyond bed rottingBed rotting can allow you to isolate yourself, ignore your feelings, and possibly prevent you from participating in self-care activities that can help you, Gold said. Therapy can help you learn new coping skills, get to the root cause of your bed rotting and determine if there is some mental health issue going on, Gold said.

Representative Blake D. Moore, Republican of Utah, is pushing for changes to federal law that would allow more nonstop flights between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Salt Lake City. Those flights, he said, would increase tourism between Utah and the nation’s capital. They would also offer Mr. Moore a more efficient commute. “We need more direct flights out of DCA,” he said. In recent weeks, dozens of lawmakers have joined the push for 28 new round-trip flights per day at Reagan National.

About Those July 4 Fireworks and Climate Change
  + stars: | 2023-07-04 | by ( Delger Erdenesanaa | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
The American practice of setting off fireworks on July 4 stretches back to the first Independence Day celebration in Philadelphia in 1777. But with concerns over air quality, wildfires and supply chains, some cities are doing just that. This year Salt Lake City is replacing its fireworks with synchronized dancing drone displays to avoid worsening air quality and setting off more wildfires. Boulder, Colo., is switching to drones, too, and Minneapolis is opting for lasers, simply because those technologies have been easier to source than fireworks in recent years. And as wildfire smoke from Canada again blanketed much of the United States last week, New York City officials debated whether to set off fireworks on the 4th but, as of Monday night, had not called them off.

Why cities want to ban new drive-thrus

Magnets of traffic and congestion, drive-thrus discourage walking, public transit use and visits to neighboring businesses. A host of cities and regions want the sprawl to stop: Atlanta lawmakers will vote this summer on whether to ban new drive-thrus in the popular Beltline area. Minneapolis; Fair Haven, New Jersey; Creve Coeur, Missouri; Orchard Park, New York, and other cities have banned new drive-thrus in recent years. Experts say pedestrian safety can be improved by tightly managing access along arterial roads and locating drive-thrus away from them. Cities push backAtlanta City Councilman Jason Dozier proposed a bill this year to block new drive-thrus around the Atlanta Beltline, a pedestrian trail along a 22-mile railroad corridor.

Why would the National Portrait Gallery commit to taking this work they wouldn’t see until it’s finished, 90% of which is created by non-artists? What did she do?” Haworth told the National Portrait Gallery about the figure. Some art critics have been scathing of the gallery’s rework, with Jonathan Jones at the Guardian dubbing it “the same old cocktail party.” His review begins: “The National Portrait Gallery has been closed for three years.

A Russian-installed official said on Sunday that Ukraine had taken control of the village, Piatykhatky, in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. Ukraine's Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Ukrainian forces had not only retaken Piatykhatky but had advanced by up to seven km (4.3 miles) into Russian lines in two weeks, capturing 113 square km (44 square miles) of land. The reported capture of the villages reflects incremental gains for Ukraine that highlight the challenge of breaking through lines Moscow has spent months strengthening. Russia says it invaded Ukraine to "denazify" it, an argument Ukraine and its Western allies call a pretext for a land grab. While Ukraine conducts what Western governments and analysts say are probing attacks to test Russian forces, officials from two NATO member states said Moscow is redeploying some of its forces as it seeks to predict where Ukraine will strike.

Death toll rises from flooding after Ukraine dam breach
  + stars: | 2023-06-18 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
June 18 (Reuters) - The death toll from flooding following the destruction of the Kakhovka dam has risen to 16 in Ukraine, Kyiv officials said, while Russian officials said 29 people have died in territories that Moscow controls. The breaching of the Kakhovka Dam on June 6 unleashed floodwaters across a large swath of land in southern Ukraine and in Russia-occupied parts of Ukraine, destroying farmland and cutting off supplies to civilians. Andrei Alekseyenko, chairman of the Russian-installed administration in the Moscow-occupied parts of the Kherson region, said on the Telegram messaging app the death toll had risen to 29 people. Ukraine accuses Russia of blowing up the Soviet-era dam, under Russian control since early days of its invasion in 2022. A team of international legal experts assisting Ukraine's prosecutors in their investigation said in preliminary findings on Friday it was "highly likely" the collapse in Ukraine's Kherson region was caused by explosives planted by Russians.

Evidence suggests Russia blew Kakhovka dam in Ukraine: NYT

June 18 (Reuters) - Evidence suggests this month's destruction of the huge Kakhovka dam in a Russian-controlled area of Ukraine resulted from an inside explosion set off by Russia, the New York Times said. "The evidence clearly suggests the dam was crippled by an explosion set off by the side that controls it: Russia," the Times said. Ukraine accuses Russia of blowing up the Soviet-era dam, under Russian control since early days of its invasion in 2022, unleashing floodwater across a large swath of the battleground, destroying farmland and cutting off water supplies to civilians. The Times cited engineers as saying only a full examination of the dam after the water drains from it can establish the sequence of events leading to the destruction. Sweden to move ahead with 2030 Winter Games bid
  + stars: | 2023-06-17 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
June 17 (Reuters) - The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) intends to move ahead with a bid to host the Winter Olympics for the first time after a four-month feasibility study showed there was interest in staging the Games in Stockholm. Sweden, a winter sports powerhouse, has unsuccessfully bid eight times for the Winter Games, including the 2026 edition which was awarded to Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo. Stockholm staged the Summer Olympics in 1912. "Our preliminary study shows that Sweden has the opportunity, know-how and will to arrange the Winter Games in 2030," SOK president Hans von Uthmann said in a statement. The Japanese city of Sapporo, which hosted the 1972 Winter Games, was considered the favourite but has put its bid on hold in the wake of a widening corruption scandal over the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Boric's shock announcement was all the more surprising as no DLE technology has reached commercial production without the use of those ponds, sparking competition to be the first. "Given those demand projections, there's definitely need for more supply from DLE," said Jordan Roberts, a Fastmarkets lithium industry analyst. A customer aiming to produce 15,000 metric tons of lithium each year, for example, could buy three stackable IBAT lithium plants. Many Gen Z-ers who came of age during the past couple of years missed out on the record-low mortgage rates of 2020 and 2021. But even with higher rates now in place, Mr. Channel expects the number of Gen Z home buyers to grow from here. “Even though you might hear a lot of doom and gloom and people might say, ‘Well, Gen Z-ers will never be able to buy a house,’ they said the same thing about millennials, and millennials are the largest group of home buyers in America,” he said. Mr. Channel relayed some tips for 20-somethings looking to buy a home: Focus on boosting your credit score and repaying student loans. And take advantage of first-time buyer programs, including Federal Housing Administration loans, which can ease the burden on young buyers with smaller down payments and lower credit scores.
