Who Won, and Who Lost, in the 2023 N.F.L. Draft

The Detroit Lions’ coach, Dan Campbell, displayed his rugged individualism. And the Green Bay Packers, playing the role of a merry divorcé post-Aaron Rodgers trade, dallied with new playmakers. draft provided an opportunity for some of the league’s most fascinating decision makers and franchises to truly express themselves. Eagles, ReloadedThe Eagles should not be able to do the things they do. A team that won 14 games and reached the Super Bowl last season should not have a top 10 pick in the next draft.
The New York area’s football teams, at least moderately successful last year, did not get to pick in the glamorous top few spots in the first round of the N.F.L. Away from the spotlight, they both selected defensive players who look like they can help already solid cores. Anything the Jets did on draft day was going to be overshadowed by the blockbuster trade for the future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier in the week. That acquisition prompted many prognosticators to assume the Jets would take an offensive lineman to protect their new asset. 15 (two slots lower than originally assigned because of a pick swap in the Rodgers deal), the Jets went for Will McDonald IV, an edge-rushing defensive end from Iowa State.
Those cutaways during the NFL Draft to hopefuls waiting for their names to be picked as other players are chosen ahead of them. Will Levis, the quarterback from Kentucky, was widely projected to be drafted in the first round, if not the top 10 selections. Levis waits in the Green Room with family at the 2023 NFL Draft. Levis waited, waited, waited and waited. But when the final pick was turned in and it Levis’ name wasn’t on that ticket, the waiting game was over.
Question: Is this really happening? Do the New York Jets and New York Knicks really have championship possibilities? Is it time to crawl into that backyard capsule and start opening all the canned ravioli and Zima we bought for the Y2K apocalypse? Does Zima expire? But let’s start with the Jets.

Montana is following a movement around the United States to try to keep Americans from using TikTok. That has consequences: The United States has never pulled a platform used by so many people to communicate. China, which before TikTok had never cracked the U.S. market with a successful social media network, is unlikely to let ByteDance part with TikTok. More recently the company had been working with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to ease concerns. TikTok users in the United States could still binge on short videos, but the company – and its rivals – would face tougher constraints.
CNN —New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas called the deal to acquire four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers “historic” for the franchise. Douglas spoke Tuesday on how the trade – which has not yet been finalized as the two teams work out the details – came together. “Obviously, a long time in the making,” Douglas told reporters at a previously scheduled pre-draft press conference. Rodgers is joining the New York Jets after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. The NFL Draft begins Thursday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jets comfortable with Rodgers deal terms, says GM

April 25 (Reuters) - The New York Jets are excited to welcome four-time National Football League (NFL) most valuable player Aaron Rodgers after agreeing a deal with the Green Bay Packers that includes a swap of key draft picks, General Manager Joe Douglas said on Tuesday. Under the agreement for 39-year-old Rodgers, Green Bay will trade their 2023 first-round draft pick (15th overall) and their fifth-round pick for the Jets' first-round pick (13th overall), second-round and sixth-round picks, according to ESPN. "Obviously, we're comfortable with how this deal shaped," Douglas told a news conference. "I don't think anyone ever walks away from a negotiation where you feel like you won everything in terms of what's gone back and forth. The deal will also see Rodgers reunite with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, with whom he was paired in Green Bay when he won back-to-back MVP awards in 2020 and 2021.
Aaron Rodgers said just over a month ago that he intends to play for the New York Jets next season, and it still sounds strange to this day. Even stranger is how difficult it’s proving to actually execute the trade that Rodgers says he wants. Rodgers is still a Green Bay Packer, and the weeks since his declaration have shown why a trade involving this one player is uniquely complicated. This isn’t as easy as swapping some cheese curds for pastrami.
Of course, Hurts' strong performance over the past two seasons contributed to his landing the biggest contract in NFL history. But it also came down to his management team. Hurts is managed by an all-women management team from the sports agency Klutch Sports Group. And that's how I am on the field and off the field," Hurts told Sports Illustrated in August 2022. Lynn and the management team have continued breaking convention and setting records with this new deal.
Abortion rights advocates gather in front of the J Marvin Jones Federal Building and Courthouse in Amarillo, Texas, on March 15, 2023. Democrats on the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Wednesday requested an immediate hearing on a federal judge's order suspending the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. All 23 Democrats on the committee wrote in a letter to Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., arguing that the ruling undermines the FDA's authority over the drug approval process. They alleged that the FDA failed to follow Congress' "statutorily prescribed drug approval process" by approving mifepristone in 2000. "The FDA's lawless actions ultimately endanger women and girls seeking chemical abortions," the lawmakers wrote.

Trump's legal team is looking to move the New York criminal inquiry from Manhattan to Staten Island, per Bloomberg. Trump's team has not yet made a decision, as they're looking to review the indictment next week. Manhattan is one of the bluest jurisdictions in the country, while Staten Island leans Republican. Staten Island, also known as Richmond County, has long been the most conservative of New York City's five boroughs. In 2020, Trump won Staten Island by a 57% to 42% margin over Biden.
Arsenal's seventh successive league win moved them to 72 points from 29 games with City, who still have to play the London club at home, on 64 having played one game less. Jean-Philippe Mateta's late goal sparked jubilation amongst the home fans as Palace moved into 12th place with 30 points, five points ahead of third-from-bottom Leicester. Pressure is intensifying on Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers as his side lost for the fifth time in six league games. Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 1-1 at the City Ground as both clubs stayed far too close to the relegation zone for comfort. The result took both teams above Liverpool with Brighton in sixth place and Brentford in seventh.
Why, then, has Dimon been so willing to swing back into action in the wake of Silicon Valley Bank's collapse? But it's starting to look like JPMorgan — and Dimon — will end up winners no matter how things turn out. In backstopping First Republic, JPMorgan helps a client and a bank that experts say would fit nicely into its business. By saving First Republic, JPMorgan also stands to gain goodwill from Silicon Valley startups, which are customers of the smaller bank. The paper also reported that regulators asked Dimon, Bank of America, and other banks to buy Silicon Valley Bank and pay out depositors over the insured limit.

A California lawyer allegedly spent $10 million in loans for fake clients to fund a Las Vegas lifestyle for six months. LDR International, the company claiming to have funded the loans, sued Sara Jacqueline King this month. King claims in a new court filing that her ex-husband manipulated her, and forced her to gamble. LDR claims this prevented it from ever knowing for sure whether their loans were actually given to the intended client. King allegedly served as an intermediary in the loan process separate from her law practice, King Reuben, starting when she formed the King Family Lending LLC in February 2020.

GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers called TikTok "an immediate threat" and wants it banned in the US. McMorris Rodgers said she's deeply concerned about the user data of millions of US TikTok users. "I would say there's an immediate threat via TikTok from the Chinese Communist Party. "What the hearing made clear to me was that TikTok should be banned in the United States of America to address the immediate threat and we also need a national data privacy law," she added. McMorris Rodgers pointed to Tiktok and parent company ByteDance as having ties to the Chinese government, which she said is a major risk to Americans.
CNN —On the eve of a high-profile TikTok hearing this week, the company shared that it now has more than 150 million US monthly active users. “This uncertainty could push some TikTok content creators to focus more on, and possibly begin, pushing their audiences to other social network platforms,” Mogharabi said. Snap’s stock rose in the days leading up to TikTok’s appearance before Congress amid renewed talks among federal officials of a TikTok ban. Alex Brandon/APIf that happens, Lian Jye Su, an analyst with ABI Search, believes users will follow their favorite TikTok influencers and content creators wherever they go. For now, talk of a TikTok ban may still be premature.
March 23 (Reuters) - U.S. lawmakers at a congressional hearing on Thursday accused TikTok of serving harmful content and inflicting "emotional distress" on young users, grilling the Chinese-owned app's CEO on the company's outsized influence on teens.
